Ryan Daniel Moran (speaking in a Capitalism.com YouTube video) reflects on the need to intentionally schedule and announce important personal and professional priorities so they are not crowded out by everyday demands. He gives examples: planning three weeks off by announcing it three months early, and proactively planning future trips and experiences to ensure they happen.

Something I learned this year is that if I don't carve out time for the most important things, life will squeeze them out of my calendar. So, for example, this year I decided I was going to take three weeks off. No email, no slack, no nothing. And I announced it to my team three months ahead of time so that we could plan for it. And I assumed that one day my life would get to a point where I could just take three weeks off and it wouldn't be a big deal. But no, I had to plan it, announce it, we had to work for it, we had to plan for it. Now I'm looking ahead to next year and I'm thinking about the trips I want to take, the experiences I want to have. If I don't plan them now, they just won't happen. And so prioritizing the things that bring life to myself and to my business, I have to prioritize those. Otherwise all the chaos of life is just going to squeeze them out of my experience.
