A short excerpt from a Capitalism.com YouTube interview in which a speaker asks Ryan Daniel Moran whether to focus on Amazon or Shopify when launching a new product. Ryan Daniel Moran responds succinctly: "Amazon." The exchange centers on immediate platform choice for initial product launch.
If you were starting from scratch, where would your focus?
Amazon.
Okay. I think I'm about a week away from finalizing my manufacturer for my initial product.
Good for you.
I mentally, in this process, I'm going back and forth on like, where do I focus initially out of the gate, Amazon or Shopify? If you were starting from scratch, where would your focus?
Amazon.
Okay.
100%. You have a trade off between control and growth. For 80% plus of people, having too much control holds them back and they need to focus on growth. Shopify doesn't compound Amazon compounds because when you get more reviews, your conversion rate goes up, which means that you can run more ads, which means you're going to get more customers. I built a $10 million business, could not have done that without the compounding returns.
