How to Use Wix SEO Settings | Wix SEO

In this instructional video, Crystal Carter, Head of SEO Communications at Wix, demonstrates how to use the Wix SEO Settings dashboard to manage and scale SEO across a website. She explains how to access the SEO tools, outlines the different page groups (main pages, blog posts, tags, categories, products, archives), and shows how to set default values for site name, page title, meta description, and other elements. The video walks through bulk editing defaults and then dives into the new "edit by page" and "edit by product" features that let users customize individual pages or products directly from the backend, including editing slugs, title tags, meta descriptions, social share previews, structured data (JSON‑LD), robots meta tags, canonical tags, and max image/video preview settings. Carter demonstrates copying custom text into meta descriptions, handling warnings about length, and publishing changes, which instantly update the preview panels. She also covers how to manage indexability, redirect settings, and product markup, and offers best‑practice tips for when to use defaults versus bespoke meta descriptions, keyword inclusion, and call‑to‑action phrasing. The video concludes with a reminder to visit the Wix SEO Learning Hub for further resources.

You. Hello, my name is Crystal Carter. I'm the head of SEO Communications at wix, and today I'm going to talk to you about our SEO settings. SEO settings in WIX are a great tool to help you save time by applying the same SEO logic to many pages at once. So instead of editing a single page's settings, you can customize the settings that apply to a whole section or folder or collection of pages add all at once. This way you can create a systematic SEO strategy much more quickly and optimize your pages at scale. To find your WIX SEO settings, you would go to marketing and SEO. You'd navigate to SEO tools either here or here, and then you would go to SEO settings. Here we have a collection of different ways that you can optimize your site, and these are all broken into groups for pages. So you have your main pages, your blog posts, your blog tags, your products, your blog categories, and your archive pages. You can also, within this main dashboard, see information about whether your site is currently able to be indexed by Google Today. I'm really pleased to share with you that we have new features available for main pages and product pages that allow you to update your SEO even more quickly. So within your settings for main pages, you can see lots of information for how you can customize different parts of your SEO. So for instance, you can see how you can set defaults for your site name, your page name, your meta descriptions, and things like that. You can also test the previews before
you make any edits.
You can also see your social preview and more information about your structured data and also about your meta tags. And I'll get into a bit more of those details further on, but I'm really pleased to announce that we are now able to offer you the option to edit your pages by page. So from this panel, you're able to see some of that information at scale, and you're also able to see the individual pages altogether. So for some of the defaults that I mentioned, you can see how they're formatted here, here, and here. So for instance, I have a page name that says explore your insert page name about women in space and astronomy, expand your horizons and things like that. If I want to customize the default, I click here and it takes me
back to this page.
I can also, in this section see information about whether or not my page is indexable. So these pages are still in draft, so they are still being worked on. So I do not currently have those pages ready for indexing. So if that's something that I want to update.
For instance, if I wanted to update
and make sure that the blog pages were indexable, then I could do that as well. Now if I would like to see an individual page and I would like to edit that, then I can click here and click edit and I get a pop out panel. Previously this was only available. This type of panel was only available in the editor, but now you can get it in the back end of the cms. So within this panel I can see lots of different elements about the SEO settings for this particular page. So I can see a preview of what it might look like on Google. I can also see the slug, I can also see the title tag and I can also see the meta description. Now this is currently using the default meta description format. So this is going explore our insert page name and in this case the page name is shop and then it has the rest of the blurb that's standard. Now because I would like to make this page particularly more bespoke, I'm going to copy a little bit of text that I created earlier and I'm going to paste that in and you can see that that updates there. It updates here and when I click
publish it will also update on the panel there.
So that's made that that particular update very quickly. And if I'd like to move on to another one for instance, and make an update there, I can do the same thing and so on and so forth. As we go through here we can also see information for social share. So for instance, if I wanted to edit this image or if I wanted to edit the text here, I could do that. If I wanted to edit the structured data markup for this particular page, I could do that. Or if I wanted to add some new markup, I could do that too. There's also access to the robots meta tags here, here and here. And there's also access to additional tags. So for instance the canonicals, the, the site name, the website, that sort of thing. From this panel I can also see information about navigating to the editor. So for instance, if I wanted to go to edit some of the visuals on the page, I could do that. And if I wanted to see the live page, I could do that too. So the new feature is also available for product pages. To go to that you go to SEO settings and you select products and then you would go to edit by product and you can see the collection of products that you have in your shop and then you can see again information about your defaults for your product URL, your Page title, your meta descriptions, you can also see information about whether or not it's indexable. So only products that you have made indexable will be available here. If you have other products which are, which you have chosen to hide from your shop, they will not be visible here. So where you have these and they have a check mark, that's all great. And you can see again on the three dots if you click here, here you can see edit, go to product page or go to live page here I would like to edit and I can see from this preview that this is pulling in lots of information from the from the page. My goodness, that's too much. So if I want to edit that, then I can make sure that I edit it. So to edit this meta description I would click here and I can, you can see that it's giving me a warning telling me that my meta description is too long. So, so I've written a shorter one and I'm going to copy that one and I'm going to paste it into here, for instance. And you can see that it's much better now. And this is giving me a preview of what that's going to look like. Now if I also would like to
update this, I can say.
And this is going to do an automatic redirect from the old page to the new page. For instance, I can also again see information about the social shares. So for instance, if I wanted to edit that so that I could see the person the top of the image, then I could do that and I can also drill down to see what
it looks like on Twitter and I can see how that's going to preview there. And I can also see that we
have product markup here. So if I want to see that, I could go to Edit Edit SEO settings and that would take me back to the SEO settings to give me more information about my schema markup there. And I can get lots of information about my products and my product SEO
all from this one panel.
So again, this is giving me information
about prices, this is giving me information about the URL, whether it's in stock,
and lots of great things like that. So once I'm happy with what my product looks like, I can click save and I can go back to the
rest of the products.
Now if I look notice that there's a common issue with my products, then I can see very quickly whether or not that's the case. So that one had a default that had the whole description and that was too many words. But if I can see that I can see very quickly whether or not we've got some updates that I need to make on my meta descriptions, and at the moment it's looking like they're pretty good.
So.
So I'm happy here and I'm going to head back to my SEO settings to see what more I can do.
So on the SEO Settings panel, you can see lots of different information for each of the categories of pages that you have on your website. On this particular site, I have main pages which include my homepage, my about page, and different pages like that. I also have product pages which include the products that I'm selling and I also have blog pages. Now blog pages also include tags, categories and archives by default. One of the great things about the SEO Settings Dashboard is that you're able to set rules for each of these categories as to apply to all of the pages that are within those categories. So for instance, if you didn't want to have your blog archive pages to show in Google's index, and you could tick this box to make sure that they weren't showing in Google's index and that would mean that every single page that was one of these archive pages or wasn't showing in Google. So these are really, really useful. For each page they will have the same set of criteria and the same set of actions that you can take. So each page, each set of pages will have your SEO basics and social share. They will also have your structured data markup, they will also have your robots meta tag and they will also have additional meta tags. Your SEO basics and social share will help you to manage whether or not search engines can your pages. So for instance, whether or not your pages are indexable in Google and Bing and other search engines, it will also allow you to set your defaults, your default automations for how your pages are structured. So remember, on this tab for edit by page here you can see the default automation from your SEO default. And if you want to customize that, set that default and it will take you back to this customized defaults pages. And from here you can, you can make sure you can change around the template that will show unless you put in something specific for that particular page. So you can see that here I have an automated default that says explore and then insert page name, whatever the page might be. And then I have some text now you can see here on this tab and this is one of the things that's great about this that I can see some of these pages are using this default, but some of them I've enter entered in the content bespoke content for that particular page. And that's great. So you can decide which pages you want to have defaults in and which pages you want to have. You want to have a custom meta description for and when you're thinking about your custom meta descriptions, you want to make sure that it includes a keyword that's relevant to your page and also possibly think about a CTA and potentially think about making sure that you've got something that is, that is reflective of what the page is about. So if you have a default, it should be fairly generic and should be something that should work straight out of the box. But you will also want to have a look at your pages overall and make sure that your default works. If you see that your default most of the time doesn't work, then maybe you want to change what the default is.
The other one you're going to think
about within, within this panel is structured data markup. So structured data markup is a type of, it's called JSON LD and this is something that allows you to to get more information about from your pages to Google in a very formatted and structured way. So the other information that you'll see on these particular tabs is the robots meta tags. So each of these, each of these gives robots different instructions for how to treat your page. So it might tell them to no index, which means to hide these pages from search results. It might say to nofollow, which means that bots should not crawl links to these pages. And they might say no snippet, which means that they don't want to show the meta description for instance for these pages within the search search search results. Or it might even mean that you don't want to include it in featured snippets. For instance, you have your no Image index, which means that you might want to hide the images on these pages from search results. This will also hide those particular images from your sitemap. You might want to have no archive. So this might mean that you don't want to cache the link for this particular page. Sometimes Google stores information about about pages in in Google for a long time, even after the page is gone. So for instance, if you don't want that page to be to be archived, then you can take the no Archive button. Then you have Max Image Preview. So this one is, this one is interesting. You take this and then you can select different sizes. So you can say none or standard or large. Large is actually an SEO optimization which give makes you more likely to show an SEO discover if you include Max Image Preview Large. So if you're doing blogs, I highly recommend that you use that particular setting max snippet, which means that you can set a character limit for what you want to display in the snippets for the pages that might include the meta description that might include other sections of the website. Your max Video preview. Again, this might show the number this allows you to limit the number of seconds that you want to show in Google Search for a particular video that you might have on your page within these settings. If you wanted to add more meta tags, then you could go to this section and you could add more meta tags. By default, WIX websites include the page URL as the canonical for most pages. But for instance, if you wanted to make that unique for a section of your website, you would do this. If you wanted to make it unique for a single page on your website, then you would go to here and you would go to advanced and you would go to additional meta tags and you can change the canonical here. So I could edit this and I can make this specific canonical tag here and those are the main settings that you would get to from the WIX SEO settings.
Thank you so much for joining me. If you've enjoyed this video, please visit the WIX SEO Learning Hub to learn lots of other ways that you could improve SEO on your website.
