Popular Types of Websites That You Should Know

In this instructional YouTube tutorial, presenter Aaron walks viewers through the essential first step of building a website: deciding which type of site best aligns with their goals, audience, and offerings. He emphasizes the importance of defining the core purpose before diving into design or development, and repeatedly points to Wix’s template library as a practical resource for each site category. The video then systematically covers 16 common website types—e‑commerce, blogs, portfolios, event sites, personal sites, landing pages, membership sites, booking sites, nonprofit sites, online forums, school/education sites, informational sites, community sites, consulting sites, and wedding sites. For each type, Aaron outlines its primary function, key features (such as product pages, lead forms, scheduling tools, or discussion threads), typical audience needs, and potential monetization or engagement strategies. He also notes that many sites can blend functionalities (e.g., a blog with a store). The tutorial concludes by reminding viewers that a website can evolve over time, encourages them to explore a linked blog post for deeper resources, and ends with a call to like, subscribe, and follow the channel.

It can boost your sales, help grow your audience, and give you that professional look you're going for. That's why when it comes to building your site, there are a lot of decisions to make. But the very first step, before you even begin anything else, is to figure out what type of site you want to build to best achieve your goals. Hey guys, I'm Aaron and today we're going to talk about 16 different types of websites, from blogs and e commerce to online forums and portfolios to help you understand which ones make the most sense for you. So stay tuned. Before you can start building a website, you need to know what kind of site you want to build, what are you going to use it for, what kind of business, if it's even for a business, do you have? What kind of offerings will you need on this site? And what will your audience be looking for? These are all things you need to think about because different kinds of sites have different elements and features. That's not to say that you can't then combine some different types together or add capabilities from other types, like having a blog with a store or a store with bookings. Basically, you just need to know what the core purpose of your site is. Once you've got that nailed down and you know more of what you'll need you you can really get started. And you can always check out wix's templates page. I'll throw the link in the description for you for some great inspo for features that go well together or to start building quickly now. If you already know what kind of site you want to build, just head over to WIX where you can get started. But if you're not sure yet, stick around because I'm going to go over a bunch of popular website types and what you should know about them. Here we go. The best e commerce sites give your customers a seamless shopping experience and make it really easy for them to explore, select and purchase whatever products catch their eye. And you can either sell your own stuff or dropship products from another online store. The key to success though, comes from creating an amazing e comm site that has visually appealing product pages, captivating descriptions and multiple payment options. And with wix, you can open an online store really easily with everything you need right there, like professionally designed layouts, checkout pages, shopping cart features and flexible payment options. It's really important for any business to have a strong online presence, even if you're not planning on selling anything in an online store. It can help build your brand, spread your messaging, and connect with your target audience, whether that audience is other businesses or individual customers. Either way though, when you're building a site for your business, it's really important to focus on your audience's needs and show them how your company can solve their unique challenges. Starting a blog is an awesome way to showcase your interests through written, visual and digital content. They provide a platform to express yourself and share your passions with the world. And once you get your blog up and running, there are lots of opportunities to make money through things like affiliate marketing, display advertising and selling ad space. Plus, you can share your blog posts directly on your social media to really expand your reach. And check out the link right up here to see all the blogging capabilities you get with wix. From really cool templates to being able to choose a customized domain and even tools to help bring in more readers. If you're looking to showcase your skills and attract potential employers or clients, a portfolio website is definitely the way to go. Whether you're a photographer, artist, writer or anything else, it can act as your resume, putting all your best work on display. A portfolio is also a great way to establish your personal branding, giving visitors insights into your personality, interests and values. And and if you're not quite sure where to start, I'll leave a link in the description to our WIX Website examples page. There are a bunch of really great sites made by WIX users and you can filter by portfolio to get some great inspo. Whether it's for an in person soiree or an online gathering, an event website is a powerful tool and an effective one will have all the essential information people will need to know like the date, the the time and the location of the event, even the lineup of speakers or a detailed agenda. Think of it as a one stop hub for everything they need to know before they go. And by having an engaging site, you can generate buzz and excitement around your event whether it's a conference, a concert or just a family barbecue. Unlike a portfolio website which showcases your work, a personal website is a space where you can truly express yourself you it's your chance to share your accomplishments, explore your interests and develop your personal brand. Depending on your goals, like if you want to use it to advance your career, you could add a resume, clips and a bio. If it's more for self expression, adding a blog or social links might be all you need. Landing pages are single page sites designed to market specific products or services and you've got two types of non gated and gated. Non gated pages are open to anyone, whereas gated pages require users to fill in their details for access like a name and email address. This type of website is perfect for introducing new offerings, generating leads, or driving targeted traffic to a specific page. And of course, WIX has a ton of templates for landing pages. Check them out to get ideas or to start building membership. Websites are a great option for businesses looking to create dedicated, loyal returning customers. These sites give you the ability to create a personalized experience and offer exclusive content and valuable resources in a password protected area. Once they log in, members can access premium services, online classes and members only events, giving them a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves. Booking websites offer up convenience and efficiency, so whether you're looking for classes, accommodations or services, these platforms make it easy to sign up online. They also create a space to leave recommendations, reviews and contact information. And I'd really suggest checking out what WIX offers for bookings pages. There's a ton of features like online scheduling, calendar management, and accepting payments that make booking things really intuitive. Nonprofit websites are the perfect place to put your organization's vision and core values front and center, helping you engage with people and rally around your cause. For example, a wildlife protection organization might be looking to raise awareness, while a food bank might be looking to recruit volunteers or donations. Online forums are basically a virtual gathering place where a really diverse group of people from different backgrounds or walks of life can come together, together, connect and interact with each other to talk about certain topics. These forums are usually made up of different discussion threads which make it easy for users to find the specific subject they want to focus on. When I say school website, I'm not only talking about elementary schools or universities, it can also be a place for online teaching and information for businesses that teach things like music or languages. And the perfect school website would be designed in a way that creates a comprehensive online database for students, parents and faculty. It should use educational technology like offering online lessons and assignments for students, and also be a place to attract prospective students who want to enroll. Informational websites are a great place for people looking for in depth knowledge on a specific topic, service or product. They give valuable insights and answers to their burning questions and provide content that helps them dive deep into the subject matter. Not only that, but they also position you or your organization as experts in your field. A community website is an online space where like minded people can come together, support each other and build strong connections and find valuable resources. By starting a community website, you can create a place that fosters trust, engagement and a sense of belonging among your members. If you're an expert in a certain field, you should consider creating a consulting website to share your knowledge and even monetize it. Your site should highlight the specific services you offer, what your background is, and the target audience who could benefit from it. For example, if you're a financial advisor, you can show how you'll protect clients money. If you specialize in human resources, explain how you can help businesses improve their efficiency. Having a dedicated website can turn your special day into an unforgettable experience. And not only can you share important information with your guests, like details about the festivities, but you can also add your registry or share videos, photos and stories about your relationship and even your bridal party. Well, that about wraps it up for us today. But remember, These are just 16 examples and there are more. You just need to understand what your goals are for your site and work from there. And keep in mind, even if you start with one type of site, it's not set in stone and your site can evolve with you. It really all just depends on your needs. And if you want more information about anything I've covered here, just check out our full blog post linked in the description where we dive deeper and give more valuable resources for each type. And remember to hit that like button and subscribe for more great content. See ya. Sam.
