My name is Mark Range and I am the head of Dr. Handmade Strings. My family came to America around 1915, not knowing the language, not knowing anybody. My dad played guitar and banjo and I can't say that my mother was a groupie, but she liked this guy in the band. My father started gild guitars about 1952. It was very rough in the beginning, but eventually guitars just started to blossom. There's a human element that changes a product and how it responds here, the difference woods make. So if you have something different, whether it's a sound, whether it's a feeling, whether it's performance, whatever it is, if you have something that's unique, then you have a purpose for being. He thought if he had his own string company, he could produce strings that would closer match the guitars that he was making. Doctor started in 89. He would have taken a lot of pride in it.
