My name is Melody Allred and I started Orfana helping orphans. God led us in 2011 to actually adopt a sibling group of four children from inner city Montgomery, Alabama. I already have four biological children, so my family grew overnight. There's only so many kids I can personally care for, so I was like, well, what else can I do? And so that's where the entrepreneurial and the orphan care kind of came in and collided. And orphana kind of was first. The main challenge with this business model is nobody knows who we are. And so we were having to get the word out. And how do you get the word out? You have to have a website. The
main thing that drew me to using wix was its ease of use. Because I didn't have a lot of experience designing websites. I needed something that was user friendly and WIX was incredibly user friendly. I had dabbled in some other ones and I felt very locked in. This allowed me to have a blank template that we could create anything
we wanted. Literally, she would take my pieces of paper that I would scratch out and then we'd sit there and she'd put it together. It wasn't just an e
commerce site. It was a site that allowed us to tell the story of these kids, to put pictures up and have endless pages, which is something that we definitely needed.
My tip to a business owner would be to make sure you have the right people on your team. It's really important that I not try to sit in anybody else's seat and somebody else not try to sit in my seat. So. So I would say surround yourself with the best people possible.
