Your Full-Stack Utility Belt | Corvid by Wix

The webinar, led by front‑end developer Meredith Hassett and full‑stack developer Joshua Alphonse, introduces Corvid by Wix—a JavaScript‑based, server‑less development platform that extends the Wix visual editor with custom front‑end code, backend logic, databases, NPM modules, and HTTP functions. After outlining the three‑part webinar series (Wix Data, NPM integrations, and advanced use cases), the presenters demonstrate how to enable Dev Mode, use the $w selector, name UI elements, and add on‑click events. They then walk through a full‑stack “bird adoption” application that showcases dynamic pages, repeaters, data‑driven UI, lightboxes, backend modules, scheduled jobs, and third‑party services such as Twilio and SendGrid. Real‑world examples (e.g., surfboard e‑commerce, credit‑union chatbot, Tulu rental app) illustrate the breadth of possible integrations. The session emphasizes the business value for agencies—zero‑setup environments, faster dev velocity, reduced maintenance, and a large market of Wix sites needing complex functionality. Finally, the presenters share community resources (forums, Stack Overflow, API reference, blogs, courses, marketplace) and encourage attendees to connect on social platforms for ongoing support.

All right, good evening, everyone. We're gonna just wait a minute while people start filtering in. It looks like they're slowly coming, so there's gonna be everyone another minute or so before we get started. All right, guys, we're gonna go ahead and get started. Started. I'm sure people keep filtering in, so feel free to ask any questions that you need in the chat. As Aviva mentioned, make sure that you are on the all panelists and attendees. So you're asking your question to everybody so everyone can see, because we also have Joshua in the chat too, to help answer questions as we go through this presentation. So for those of you joining us this evening, we're here to talk about Corvid by wix, which if you've heard of Corvid before or you haven't, that's 20. Totally. Okay. We're here to introduce you to everything that Corvid can do for your agency to help your clients grow their websites even more and make them even more complex. And especially as the world is changing and everyone's coming online, it's going to be super powerful in helping grow your business and helping your clients grow theirs as well. Corvid is completely JavaScript based, which is really awesome because if you've already learned JavaScript, then you don't have to learn anything new, which means you can spend more time billing clients and building these applications out and less time learning a new language while getting a lot of power behind your wix site. Core Bid makes it easier to add more dynamic components to your ui. It enables you to add backend code so you can add even more complex functionality. It opens up a database for you and exposes NPM modules on the Node JS server. We're going to talk more in the following webinars about the Node JS and using NPM and WIX data as well. So webinar number two, we're going to be talking a lot about WIX data, so if you're really interested in that, please come back for that one. And webinar number three, we'll be talking about NPM and integrations with Corvid, so please come back for webinar number three too, if that's really interesting for you. Today, we just want to introduce you to Corvid, show you how easy it is to get started with it and find opportunities for your business to find new clients or help your existing clients as well. With that, I'm going to introduce myself. My name I love Google Slides. Cool. There we go. My name is Meredith hassett I am a front end developer by trade. I studied computer science at college and then went on to build applications mostly in the front end space. Because I'm a visual learner. I like being able to see what I do as I do it and being able to manipulate the code and actually see what that does on the spot. But this doesn't mean I don't like working with data or like really complex functionality. I do love using integrations as well. So one of the things I'm working on this week is actually writing a blog about how you can use Twilio with Corvid and Wix. Because as we're learning in this time, while everything's moving online, one of the most effective marketing campaigns for people is SMS messaging as a term, a way to do your marketing. So I want to show you guys how easy that is to do as well. So if any of your clients are asking for it, be able to help you get started with that really easily. I am a developer advocate for Corvid, so if you are interested in finding out more of the fun things you can do with Corvid and checking out some blogs about it, I will tweet them out at my Twitter handle that you see here or you can find me on LinkedIn. And I do have a counterpart who's in the chat and will be handling sessions two and three of this webinar series. His name is Joshua and he is here to introduce himself as well. Hey everybody. Hey.
Thanks Meredith. Hey everybody. I'm Joshua Alphonse. I'm a full stack developer by trade. I'm also a music producer and I'm a developer advocate for Corvid by Wix here in New York. So I'll be also doing the sessions for harnessing data and then also teaching you about third party integrations with Corvid. So I'm excited to do those sessions as well. We have a great intro session to Corbin today. I'm excited to see you all later on.
Thanks Joshua. Yeah, and he'll be in the chat too, so please feel free to ask questions. He'll be trying to answer them for you or identifying them as some of the questions that we'll answer at the very end too. So don't hesitate to ask questions at any point in this presentation. I just want to give us a little roadmap because some of us might just be joining now or watching this a little bit later or get distracted because it's fun being at home all the time right now. So what we're going to do is we're going to go through the future of web development and how Core can help you get there. How do you get started with absolutely zero setup? So no more setting up your environment, signing up for 16 different accounts to get ready to develop just one account. Then we're going to do a live coding example. So we'll show you how easy it is to actually add some functionality to your ui. We'll then dive deeply into a full step application that we've already built. So we built this application for conferences back when we used to be able to go to those in person things, you remember those. And we're going to dive into a bunch of different, a bunch of the functions, functionality available there. We're then going to come back and look at some examples of Corbett in the wild. What are some of people out there already doing with the power of Corbett behind their sites? And then talk about some of your opportunities to garner leads in the marketplace and then we'll come back for questions. So please again feel free to ask questions throughout it. We'll take note of those and we're going to answer some of those at the very end. So if you don't already know that There are over 180 million websites built on Wix, so there's a huge client base for agencies and developers to help grow businesses on wix, especially as things are moving online. We've seen a huge transition because of a lot of the shutdown and work from home that people have to build their businesses completely online. And WIX is enabling that and Corvid is enabling it to be even more complicated because these people are moving their entire businesses from storefronts to digital. And that is a really complex experience. And so Corvid enables you to handle that complex translation from in store to online business. And we have agencies that are already doing this. For example, Scott from Infused Designs has been using Corvid for the last three years and he's gotten over 20 inquiries a day with Corvid. He hasn't had to turn down any of those jobs because nothing is too complex or too incompatible with wix with the add on of Corvid and what everything that it opens up for you. So that really creates a lot of opportunity for your agencies to help your clients even more and help them come online into a more complex business model even faster. So you can have less of a headache in code maintenance for you as a developer with a higher happiness for your client. So I kind of hinted at this, but one of the main things that we're trying to do with Corvid is help you speed up your dev velocity. We want to remove your headaches that you have as a developer with environment setup, maintenance schedules, deployment schedules. I know, like I personally have been on deployment calls at midnight that have you started deployment, something goes wrong, you got to roll back and then you're on that call for four plus hours and maybe nothing's released. Or you have to do your code freeze and your content freeze at least a week before, which means that your content is stale on your site for at least a week, which we know is just not a valid use case in these day and ages. And so what we want to do is help you minimize all of those headaches, minimize your code maintenance, and have a singular developer environment, which makes it so much easier and so much faster to actually deliver to your clients. So we want to. When we talk about accelerated development, there are some key things that we're trying to help you accomplish here. We want to give you absolutely zero setup, so you don't have to spin up your own environments, you don't have to do your own hosting. We're going to help you be completely serverless, so everything's on the WIX cloud and nice and secure, so you don't have to worry about authentication and setting up that secure environment. It's completely running on top of a Node JS server. So again, you don't have to worry about any setup costs. And you're getting to also use all of those tools that you may be already familiar with. So we're going to dive even deeper into that when we talk about using NPM modules in the third webinar. But it's going to be really powerful for helping you bring those tools along with you that you may be already used to using in your Node JS developer environments. And it's going to be production ready. So there's going to be no transition from a QA server to a production server. We're going to handle all that for you and help you get to deployment even faster. So your client sites are going out the door even faster too. And the way we're going to help you accomplish this is by how many people have actually already used the WIX editor before? Because we're going to talk a little bit about the Visual Editor and how it's going to be enhanced by this. So I'm seeing a few of you guys already have. Awesome. Yeah. So if you're familiar with that Visual Editor, you're used to that drag and drop interface where you can take different components and add them on the screen. And when you enable Corvid and dev mode, then you're going to be able to actually add more complexity to those sites. So maybe you need a new on click function that isn't fitting one of those out of the box options that comes with the editor. Or you want to be able to do some more dynamic pages. Then by enabling Corvid you can have dynamic data driven pages that is coming from your database. You can have more complex functionality on your ui. And when you have that complex functionality, a lot of it is coming actually from the storage layer that's opened up for you. So we're going to enable you to access it with the WIX data platform, which is going to be a MongoDB. This is going to give you access to APIs to do all of the standard functionality you may need to do with your database. So we need to pull some aggregates, run some queries, have some data hooks, a bunch of different functionality that we're going to dive even deeper into on the next section. So I don't want to spend too much time talking about that. But that data is able then to power your ui. And we also open up a compute layer on your Node JS server where you can expose HTTP functions, schedule daily events, incorporate some of those NPM modules that I've been talking about that you may already be using, do some Secrets Manager, have a Secrets Manager and do some log monitoring as well. So you can keep all of the tools that you need to make sure your client site is healthy and running well, all in one area. I need to hide the chat because you guys are really chatty and I love it, but it's distracting me. Cool. So how do we help you actually do all of this? Because it's all talk until I actually show you what you can do. So we've got a built in Cloud ide. So it's a singular environment where you can actually have your code up in the cloud. No more worry about code maintenance and having to set up that environment again on your and bringing all your tools into that environment again. It's running on top of a Node JS server where you can incorporate those NPM packages that you may already be using. We can expose some HTTP functions which we'll look at a little bit today too. And one of the big bread and butter things that we're going to want to talk about is the front end APIs that open up for us. So this way we have special Wix APIs that enable us to actually manipulate the front end so we don't break the code because if you've used the edit before, you know they're kind of like locked down a little bit. And the reason we do that is so we don't actually break your UI in any way, shape or form. So you've got awesome front end APIs to help you add more power to those UI components. Again, we've got external database collection so you can have a data driven design, advanced access to your marketing tools and integration opportunities and these dynamic data driven pages. So instead of having to build a page for every single item you may have have in your list. So like if you have a store, instead of having to build a page for every single item in that store, we can use the database and dynamic pages to actually create data driven pages where you design at one time. Use Corvid to incorporate any logic you may need to show hide depending on the item and then and reduce your number of pages down from maybe like 100 items to one page with all of your logic on it. So with that I'm about to dive in. But does anyone have any questions before we dive into the editor? All right, I've got the go ahead, so we're going to go ahead and dive in. So I've got the core or the WIX editor already open. So if you haven't seen the WIX editor before, this may look a little new to you, but it's a really awesome, super powerful tool to actually build your sites. There's a lot of things you can already do just with plain old wix. We've got our menus and pages, so if you need to add more pages here, rename them, handle their SEO. We are like one of the key things with websites, right is we need to be SEO optimized. So we're going to help you do a lot of that SEO optimization here. You can change the page background, you can add new items to the page too. So maybe in this case I want to add a new button. It's really simple. I just need to go to button. I'm going to go to some text buttons. There's a huge library of already designed buttons because like I'm not a designer at all, so I don't know what visually looks good. So they've got a great set for me already there. I'm going to grab maybe this one here and I can just drag it and drop it on my page. Just like that. Super simple to get started with adding additional func features. To your page with that button. You also do have some out of the box functionality here where if I want to have it, maybe go to a new page, go to an anchor tag somewhere on my page, send an email, download a document. I have a lot of that functionality right out of the box. But that is a limited list. But that doesn't mean that's the limit of the product. And that's where Corvid comes in. So in order to get to Vid, oh no, my zoom, my videos is in the way. There we go. So we have this top toolbar here and in the middle you'll see this little thing. So it says dev mode. Dev mode is how you're going to turn on Corbett. So if we go to dev mode and turn it on, our page is going to update and we actually get a couple new panels that we're looking at here on the screen. So on the left hand side of the screen we're able to see the site structure. So we were getting a more in depth look at what's under the hood of our site here. So I'm able to see my UI pages. So I only have this one homepage. I can see where I can add some backend codes. If I need to add some more business logic or complex functionality, call some external services, I can handle that all back here. I can add some node modules. So maybe I want to accept stripe payments or maybe I want to be able to send text messages. I look for Twilio in here as well and then we can just easily install them and if anything in this list isn't already available, you can just go ahead and request it and those are handled pretty quickly as well. So we're able to install and quickly uninstall NPM modules here to make sure our code is nicely maintained. We we've got access to our database where we can add new collections. A collection is a database and it looks just like a table, like an Excel table, if you've seen that before. So you can also start making your pages headless and start using the content manager as your like headless cms. You can export it to Excel, have your content people update the Excel, bring it back here and import it. So it's going to make your content management a lot easier as well. And then maybe any apps that you're working on are going to be available here. The other new console we're seeing here is our code console. So we actually are able to see our page code and our site code. So that's a key Distinction here because you may have some code that you need to run on every page on your ui, such as when we look at the page structure, if I minimize this for a second, we can see there's a page, there's a header, and there's also a footer automatically on the page. So the header and the footer by default are going to show up on every single page that you have on your wix site. So in that case you might need some site level code for anything that you are manipulating within the header or the footer. So maybe you have like a contact box down here and you want to make sure that you have that on every single page and the ability to email you from every single page, your code would go on the site level. For something that just needs to be contained functionality wise in the page, you can use the page level code. So in that case, our button maybe is something that we just need page level code for. So our button, when we click on it, we're actually able to see this new properties pane as well. So if I click away, you'll notice it changes. So now we have page one and this is button two. But that name isn't really that helpful for us. So one of the key things we want to remember when we're developing these sites is we want to make sure these but these items are named so we can actually remember them. And I'll show you why that's important in a second. So maybe I want to rename this to hi button just so I can actually remember it instead of it being button two or box three. So it's always important to update those IDs. The other thing you'll notice in this properties pane is there's a bunch of events. So I can now add these custom events to that button. So maybe I want to update the onclick function because that list of events functions wasn't good enough for me and I want to actually do something different. So if I click the plus button here, I'm going to get a function name. I can change it or take it as is. I'm just going to accept that because I'm a lazy developer and I don't feel like renaming things right now. And I'm going to actually just get a code stub right here already in my editor, so I don't even have to write the function declaration. I can just actually start coding the logic. So maybe in this case I want to update my title up here to say hi actually. So as you can see, I've already renamed that to title text because again, I want it to be easy to find and understand. So I'm going to start using something called the $w selector and this is our API to access our UI components on our page. So as you can see, it's going to start auto completing for me with all of the objects already on the page. And this is why those naming conventions are going to be really important because what the heck is image one? What's that pointing to? That's not helpful for you as a developer to be efficient in actually getting to updating the right item. So we want to make sure we're using descriptive names here because it's going to make our lives a lot easier to actually find what we're looking for. So I have a bunch of text fields I'm looking for Title text. Easy. The other thing it knows is because WIX has built these APIs to work really beautifully with the components on the screen. It's also going to be able to auto complete with the different properties I can set or get for these elements as well as any functions I can perform on these as well. So in this case I just want to update maybe the value of the text and we'll say hi there. And now how do I actually go into testing this code? It's really easy to get to your QA environment. We have autosave on, so our page is already saved. I can click on Preview and when I click on Preview I am able to actually try out the functionality of that button. So I'm going to click say hello and I just clicked it and the text updated. Really, really simple to actually just add dynamic functionality anywhere on your page and then maybe we want to be able to change it back and this is something you normally can't do with wix is in your title text here we actually can access all of the events of this element. And maybe I wanted to say on mouse in we want to change it back. So now we're switching back to site level code because this is the title and the title shows up on every page. We'll just use that $W selector API again. Set the text to Hike with Meredith. And now when I click that button it'll change to hi there. And when I mouse over it back to Hike with Meredith. So super simple to add complex and dynamic functionality to your page, especially in areas where you maybe didn't think you could add dynamic events to the page. Awesome. So I'm about to transition over into our full Stack application, but before I do That I just want to pause here to see if there's any questions because some of this might be new to you guys. So are there any questions about getting started with Corvid? Awesome. Yeah, exactly. Joshua Clean, concise code that's nicely contained as well. Makes it a lot easier for code maintenance too, because the code isn't all over the place, it's really contained nicely to the pages or the sites where it belongs. Awesome. So we're going to dive into a full stack application here just so you can see how even more complex the sites can be. And in case you didn't notice, yes, I live in California and San Francisco, so these are all beautiful places nearby that I'm dreaming of going to right now. All right, sorry, I have to get the zoom bar out of the way here. So we're going to look at an example that we use at a bunch of different events to showcase a lot of the really cool functionality that Corvid enables you. So in this case, we're going to look at an adoption site, which is actually a really valid use cases happening right now. Like I look at the SPCA website every day because I'm like, it's time for me to adopt the cat that I've always wanted. But they don't do online adoptions yet. And so there's actually an opportunity to use Corvid to enable adoptions online. So in this case, we're adopting birds because Corvid is a bird and we're able to see a bunch of different birds on the page here. We've got a couple different birds and one of the things that I want to point out right away is that these, as you notice in the last example I had a repeater there where in this example, if I wanted to update the content here, I would have to like manually go and change this. And so my content management is purely within the UI editor itself. With Corvid, we're able to actually change that content management from on the page itself to the database and then we can use that database to auto populate this list and dynamically show hide different components on the screen. So as you can see, some birds already have the adopted flag on them, while others do not. And we're able to set this using fields in the database. We're also able to control what shows up on the dynamic pages for the birds. So if I click on Perl as a bird example here, when I look at Pearl's page, I've been able to get some additional information about Pearl. I'm able to see a donate or adopt me button. And then if I was to look at a different bird that is maybe already adopted, I'm going to get more or less the same page layout, but a couple different fields are different. So instead I'm seeing an adopter field and no adopt me button. So the pages, by using dynamic pages and Corvid logic on top of that, we're able to create one page and manipulate the items on the UI based off fields in the database. So if I go back to one of my adoptable birds, so let's go and get a puffin, I'm able to actually adopt this bird on the spot, which the adopt me button is going to open a light box. If I try to adopt it as is, I'm going to get some red lines because these are going to be required, required fields. I'm going to go ahead and put my name in my email and I'm going to adopt this bird. Once it's validated, I'm actually allowed to adopt this bird. I'm going to end up on a thank you page that's going to tell me that I've just adopted Pearl and I can still donate at this point, which is really nicely integrated with WIX pay and I'll show you how quick it is to add WIX pays to your page as well. So I'm able to donate $5 to the education foundation for Birds. And now when I go back. So we've just adopted Pearl and if you remember before, Pearl did not have a banner saying that she was adopted before and now Pearl has a banner saying that this bird is adopted. So we're able to dynamically change the UI on the page based off of those fields in the database using Core B. Now I'm going to transition to the code so you can actually see how we're going to do all of this. So if I dive in to the birds code on this front page, we're going to take a look at that repeater element. In this case we've got our list of birds repeater element and you're able to see that adopted banner on the corner here. It's hidden by default, so if I select that, you can see it's hidden on load. And the way we're going to decide we're actually going to show hide this is we're going to use the selector and for a repeater you have a function called on itemready. So as items are ready to be displayed in the repeater, we're able to actually Iterate through each item. So we're going to go from $W to $Item, where $Item is a singular instance of $W in your array. So when we want to actually be able to access those dynamic elements in our array, we use the dollar item to be able to actually access the adopted stamp. So that's that vector art is adopted stamp. So dollar item allows us to select just one box instead of every item in the repeater, just the one element in the repeater that we're looking at currently. And based off of if the adopter flag is set in that repeater data item, we're going to either show or leave it hidden. So this repeater is being populated from our database. So if you look at the repeater, we have a little database looking icon here which says it's connected to data. So we're going to dive even more into this during the next session. But you're able to really quickly bind different data fields from your database to your repeater, so they automatically fill in. So when we look at our database of birds, This is actually how we're going to do our content management of what's available in the repeater. So as birds get adopted, we're going to see the adopter filled out. I'm in the sandbox, which is basically like the QA version of your database. We also can switch over to the live version. So maybe you have some junk data in there that you don't want. Over in the live, we're able to actually see the production level data in the live version of the database and we can also grab downloads. As I mentioned, you can export it to a CSV and have your content person maybe manage it outside of this space as well. So that data is going to help us drive the elements in the adopter. It's also going to help us drive our dynamic pages. So as you may have noticed, there's about 10 birds or so in our database and we don't see 10 pages here on our site structure, we see a bird's dynamic page and bird's name, where in this case we're going to have the birds page and use the name as the unique identifier for that bird. So we're able to actually figure out which page we want to or which content we want to load on that page. So if I look at the dynamic birds page, we're able to see a templated page here. We've got a couple sections that are hidden by default. So we have our adopter section, which is collapsed on Load and our Adopt Me button, which is hidden on load. So we are going to decide whether or not we're going to show hide these different sections on the page based off of information from the data item that is bound to this page. And so what that looks like is if we go to our code and we look at our dynamic data set for the page, we are going to grab the current item. So that's the current bird that we're looking at. You can see how it's kind of mocked up in the UI here, where there's Cindy or I can switch this to a different bird as well. And so that's kind of what the context is of the get current item. And that's going to be plopped into our bird constant based off of different fields in our bird constant. So adopter, if the adopter is set, then we want to expand the adopter section. If otherwise we want to show the Adopt Me button so that we know a bird is adoptable and enable a Lightbox click. So that's how we get that Adopt Lightbox that I got to fill out my information. If we click on the Adopt Me button, we're going to use a new API that we haven't seen here yet before, called Wix window. So Wix exposes a bunch of other APIs beyond just the element selector ones with the UI to enable you to get access to different portions of your site, manipulate the data access WIX page, and a bunch of other things as well. We'll see some more a little bit later on. In this case, WIX Window enables us to open a Lightbox so we can use WIX Window to open our Lightbox and we're going to open the Adopt Lightbox and pass in the context of. So this enables us to really easily pass information from this page that we're currently looking at to the Lightbox that we're about to open. So the Lightbox can use that information to make any manipulations of the data that it may need to. So if we look at the Adopt Lightbox, the Adopt Lightbox is going to grab again, use that WIX Window API to grab the context past from the window, the previous window, to the current Lightbox window. And then we can use that bird information to maybe make some more specific details on this page. Or in this case, if someone decides they want to try to adopt this bird, we can then use it to update the database and adopt the bird. So when we actually click that we want to adopt the bird, we want to make sure that the Data is valid. So that was that check to make sure that name and email were filled out. If it's valid, we're going to actually create an adopter object here, a JSON object that we can then pass to our adoption function based off of the name and email inputted. And then once we have that adopter object created, we're going to grab the bird's ID and call this Adopt a bird function, which isn't living in the code here on the lightbox, because it's going to be a more hefty function. We're going to actually have it stored in our backend, so our backend can do our heavy lifting for us and we're not slowing down the client. So that's actually going to be imported from our backend code. This is how you access backend functions on Corvid. Super easy. No setting up any sort of connection between client and server. We're able to really seamlessly access those backend functions and utilize them on our front end. So I'm going to switch over to our back end of our code. So we're going to look in the back end adoptions module, and when I go to the adoptions module, I can see there's a couple functions in there. The one we're interested in right now is Adopt a bird. So Adopt a Bird is going to take in that adopter object, the bird id and use that to make sure that the bird is adoptable, hasn't already been adopted, and update any information we need to about adopters. So we're going to use another new WIX API here called WIX data, and that's how we access our database. So with WIX data we can query our database to see if any of the birds already have an adopter. And if they already have an adopter, then we don't want to let them be adopted. So we're just going to throw an error instead. Otherwise, if they don't already have an adopter, then we're going to actually insert the bird and the adopter too. So in this case, we want to collect everyone who has adopted a bird. So we have our list of adopters, so, so we're going to query the adopters table and just make sure if there isn't already an adopter in the database of the current person adopting the bird, then we want to use the WIX data insert for that adopter coming back to the bird. We want to then also update the adoption date, which is going to be today, and then we're going to use update in this case because this bird already exists and as we saw in the database, the adoption date and the adopter name is stored on the bird. So we don't want to create a new entry in the database, we just want to update it. So we're going to use the update function to update the with the bird. That bird with the new funk. Wow. Sorry. The new field values. Again, we're going to dive in deeper into WIX data in the next session. So this is just a brief overview of that portion of that. But please, if you have any questions now, feel free to ask. But if you want to learn more, definitely come back for webinar number two. Another thing that you may notice here is that we have some constants that we're pulling in from a content function. So if I look at the content module, we have a bunch of content constant content. And this is going to be handy for if you have messages that need to show up in a couple of different places. Like how many times have you tried to update something and you didn't realize that there were like three other instances of it somewhere else? Because like you were feeling a little tired when you wrote that code and you like hard coded the message and instead we've all been there, we've all done it, it's fine. But what we want to do here is we want to make some constants on the back end. So that way every time that we're displaying a message to our end users, we're actually displaying the same message over and over again. And we have minimal code maintenance on our sides. Something else you might notice in here is we have a Get Anniversary email which is going to show us that we can also do job functions. So we have a job scheduler that's available as well. So we can schedule jobs to run daily with Corvid. So in this case, we have a job that we want to run every day at 9:00. And this is going to be our Send Anniversary Emails function. So again, this function is going to live in the adoptions send Emails function. So I'm going to go back over to the adoption module and in the adoption module every day that job at 9am is going to go call Send Anniversary Emails. What Send Anniversary Emails is going to do is it's going to find all of the birds that are already adopted. So if a bird is, we're going to query the database, see if it already has an adopter available. If their adopter box is filled in, we're going to iterate through those birds and determine if it's their anniversary of adoption. So is today one year, two years, three years after their adoption date in the database? If it is their adoption anniversary, we are going to send an anniversary email which we're going to pull from our SendGrid backend. So in this case we're using SendGrid npm module to send our emails for us. And and we're going to dive a lot more into utilizing NPM modules on webinar number three. So if you want to learn more about that, definitely come back for that one too. So SendGrid is going to handle all of the email sending for us. Another cool thing that you may be noticing here on the sidebar is HTTP functions. This is a great way to if you have functionality that you need to expose from your site that another site. So maybe in this case we want these birds to be adopted on another site. So maybe they we want to put these birds up on Pet Finder for example. We are able to expose different functions. So maybe we have a get where they can get the list of birds that are available and display them on the page. And if someone chooses to adopt it, we also expose a post adoption function too, which will handle the adopt a bird just like we did here on the page itself. So again, we're going to dive deeper into this stuff a little bit later, but just showing you even what's possible with Corvid. All right, before I start transitioning back to showing you guys some examples of what some of our colleagues are doing in the wild, are there any questions for now? All right, cool. Not see anything. Awesome. Again, we're all we're going to be available even afterwards for questions too, and we do have dedicated time for that. So I'm going to go ahead and get back into the presentation because we do want to leave plenty of time at the end for questions because I know this is a lot of material and this was just to show you guys the awesome power of Corvid. And we definitely want to take some more time to dive into some of those even deeper topics to show you how amazingly powerful your sites can be in some of those later sessions. And if you guys love this stuff, we would even love to come back for more. So let's take a look at what's going on with Corvid in the wild. So we have a couple of different examples that I just want to briefly talk about people who are already using Corbit on their sites. So as we know, everyone's kind of having to move their business online. And there's some companies that have already done this really awesomely and successfully, such as Isometry, where Isymmetry is a surfboard e commerce site that using Corvid mainly like the on click events here to be able to dynamically update the visual that you're seeing on screen for the board that you're trying to customize and then also updating the total if the customizations cost any additional. Another example is in the financial space where we have a credit union that's actually using Corvid to build out a really robust chatbot using dialogflow on top of Corvid. So that's one of those NPM modules and integrations that you can build out and build out like a really robust data set on dialogflow and utilize it on Corvid to help it help your end users make really seamless transactions. Learn more about like opening accounts, getting loans and all that information that they may need to be able to get and don't have to search through your entire site. And one of our favorite ones over in the Corvid space is Tulu, which is a mobile application back end and website entirely built on top of Corvid, where a lot of us live in apartment buildings who live in big cities and we may not have everything available to us. So like in my apartment we have an iron, but we don't have an ironing board and we only have four chairs but a huge table. And so we may want to be able to rent some of those other things and not have to purchase them. So with to loot, you can actually go and rent some of those items from a universal storage room in your apartment building. So maybe when I rent a vacuum cleaner, it'll bring up a QR code that we can scan at this machine. The machine will then register that we have rented that item and tell us to go pick it up. We can then use that app again to go back to the machine and return the item too. And all of this is built using Corvid. They've exposed some functions on their back end using HTV functions. They've got that web app as well entirely built on Corvid and a website also that you can visit as well. And if you're still not convinced that this is going to be a right move for you and your agency, in the last seven days alone, we've gotten over 1,000 users requesting software development help in the WIX marketplace. There is a huge demand from the clients out there to get help building more complex sites, adding more functionality to their site and just really kind of leveling up. So there's a lot of opportunity for you guys as developers to start bringing more leads into your agency and help grow your book of business even more. And as you saw, it's JavaScript, it's the same tools that you've already been building. So you're not adding more headaches to your plate. You're going to be using a lot of tools that you're already familiar with so you can grow that book of business, help your clients even more without adding more to your plate and making your head spin even more. Because we know how much, how crazy the world can be right now. So with that, we want to just take some time or sorry, want to just do a quick recap of everything that we've covered. Because if you maybe were late and curious what you missed when you go back in the recording, this is what you can look for. We spent a few minutes talking about the future of web development and how corporate is helping wix get there. We then looked at the zero setup environment where we have our sites completely serverless, running on a Node JS server in the cloud that WIX is securing for us, which enables us to bring a lot of our favorite tools like our NPN modules, access to MongoDB, exposing HTTP functions. We then spent a few minutes looking at a live code example showing how easy it is to add on click functions to buttons or even text. We then dove, really dove, dive, dived, dope, dove really deeply into an example of a full stack application and all the things you can do with Corvid. We had a really brief intro to what's going on in the wild and talked about the amazing, amazing amount of opportunities that are currently in the marketplace where people are asking for all different sources of help with their web development. And with that, I want to open it up to Q and A again if you get time. If you're looking at this presentation afterwards and want to ask any questions, Joshua and I's socials are there too. So feel free to reach out if you're looking at the recording. But anyone on the call who has a question, we can now take those as well. If I can figure out how to open up my chat again. All right, so I'm seeing a question in the chat from Holly about what is the best way to get answers when you reach a roadblock. So we have a couple of different forums. Joshua and I have been really trying to build up the external base of experts as well so we're trying to really grow the knowledge on Stack Overflow and garner the help of those users out there as well. So Stack Overflow is going to be a helpful place to search for questions that are already asked. I'm on there checking pretty regularly as well. And then if you don't want, if you have a really specific question, the forum is probably going to be the best place to go. I know the partner marketing team has an amazing group of experts in there answering questions as well. So there's a lot of people who are regularly monitoring the WIX forum and Stack Overflow. Yeah, and there's a lot of great examples in there too, but sometimes I know it can be a little bit confusing to figure out how to manipulate them. An example from that to like your actual use case. So the forum and Stack Overflow are going to be super helpful. Yeah. So as Joshua mentioned, the API reference has a lot of great code snippets that you can, can use. And you can always reach out to your fellow developers and ask for support and how to manipulate that from what you're actually trying to do. And there are like a bunch of other resources available. So if you haven't been to the Corvid site before, the Corvid site has our API reference guide. So if you want that really technical in depth, what are these APIs? What can I do with them? That guide is available there. We also have examples. So if you want to find a project that someone's already built and kind of try to copy it yourself, we've got great examples on the Corvid site. We've even opened up a feature request too. So if you have a feature that you just can't seem to find, you can also open up feature requests. As I mentioned, there's an awesome forum there. So you can ask questions and the Corvid masters will help you answer them as well as some insider experts. We've got blogs talking about some of the cool projects that you, our end users are. Yeah, our users are building with Corvid. So if you've got an awesome project that you've built for a client and want to get featured, you can reach out to us and we can help you build out a technical blog on what maybe you've done with Corvid. There's a lot of really great documentation resources that I'll show you. We're working on building out even more video tutorials on Corvid. So we're really trying to help build out the knowledge and indication here. We're working on creating a lot of learning materials, so we're trying to partner with different learning platforms too. So feel free to stay connected with Joshua and I to learn about different learning opportunities as they become available on different platforms like Coursera. I also see. Just trying to see if there's any more questions that I missed in the chat. Best suggested crash course for JavaScript. Is it? I'm trying to think. I think it may be Code Academy, I think is a really good one. It's really. I'm blanking on the name, but there's a really awesome developer like a crash course on JavaScript where they actually have the IDE built in as you're doing the course. And so instead of having to like set up because one of the biggest, I think blockers to actually getting started is having to do the environment set up yourself because it can be really intimidating, especially if you're on a PC and you have to set up all your environment variables. So I'm blinking. I want to say it's Code Academy that I really enjoy. Joshua also recommended Udemy. Udemy has a lot of really great courses as well, and I believe even there's even a Corvid course on Udemy too. Awesome. Yeah. So Aviva mentioned that she'll be sharing the Udemy course too. So if you want to take a deeper dive into this at your own pace because this was a lot of material that we went through super fast, definitely check that out. It's a really awesome resource. Sam. Yeah, I mean if you're, if you are looking at opportunity for opportunities to really skill up on what you want to do with Corvid, the Marketplace is going to be a great place to get started because no one's going to be asking for like this much or you can actually filter through the request. And if you're not ready to take on this much complexity complexity, as I just showed on the Adopt a Bird demo, then you can find tasks that are maybe a little bit smaller in there as well. So definitely check out the marketplace. There's going to be a bunch of leads to help you guys get new clients. And based off again where you're comfortable at skill level, you're able to kind of figure out what of those opportunities match your available skill set. All right. Some additional resources I did just want to touch on real quickly are our social oopsies. Google Slides and I are best friends and you can find us on Reddit as well. So if you want to have any further discussions about Corvid, want to see what the latest blogs are, what the coolest new things are. Definitely check out our subreddit. As I mentioned, we are on Stack Overflow as well and we have not only our awesome Corvid Masters community there, but the whole outside world helping us too. So we're trying to make sure that those questions get answered really timely on Stack Overflow. And you can find us with the Corvid tag. Joshua and I are both on LinkedIn and Twitter, so feel free to connect with us on either of those platforms and reach out and ask any questions. Or just follow us along as we'll be sharing our journey with Corvid on our Twitters as well. Or if you want to see like cat pictures, you can follow me on Twitter too. Cool. Josh just shared the links for those, so feel free to check them out. And yes, I want to wrap up by saying thank you guys again. Here are our names and socials. If you do want to reach out at all, please feel free. Don't hesitate. We're here to be a resource for you guys and help you on your Corvid journey and we hope you are as excited about the product as we are. Thanks. Have a great night everybody. It.
