The singularity isn't a single moment but a continuous cluster of converging technologies already happening around us. We're living through it now, but the point-in-time framing makes it easy to miss.

my operational definition of the singularity, which is every sci-fi trope everywhere all at once, which I think we're living through. Another is singularity as a set of instrumentally convergent inventions and discoveries that were all technologically predestined to happen all at once. I think we're living through that as well. Don't sleep through the singularity because if you do, it'll look like a discontinuity and you'll actually think it was a mathematical singularity when it wasn't. Every other reasonable definition of singularity doesn't hold water because every time you try to make the singularity a point in time, it breaks, and progress just doesn't work that way. Therefore, we're in the singularity.
