As AI surpasses humans in productivity, persuasion, and forecasting, we need to actively protect what machines can't replicate: our sense of wonder, creativity, and drive to explore. The speaker draws on four recent papers to argue we have 10, 20, and 30 years to preserve these traits before they fade.

The one main thing from the corpus of these 4 papers is we do talk about what AI can attain, but one of the really important things is what we as humans can retain, because we're not going to be able to keep up with the AIs economically, persuasively, forecasting, and others. And so part of the discussion in the paper, and something I think everyone needs to think about, is again, in 10, 20, 30 years, we need to set the groundwork now for what we retain as humans and our identity there and who we kind of admit there. What do you think it is? What do you think we retain as humans? I think we retain our pro-social identity, our wonder for the world, our creativity and exploration of the universe. Again, let's look for a Star Trek future, right? Like, you can't substitute for those things. And I think abundance is the groundwork that we have to take off for the stars.
