In this solo episode of the Thriving Therapreneur Podcast, host Carly Hill delivers a candid, motivational monologue aimed at therapists and online coaches who aspire to build high‑earning businesses. She begins by framing the conversation around the notes in her phone, which capture six years of personal experience and observations of thousands of clients. Hill identifies the emotional triggers—jealousy, envy, disappointment, anger—that surface when entrepreneurs compare themselves to more successful peers, describing these feelings as “the schoolyard in adult form.” She argues that these triggers are not signs of inadequacy but signals of deep‑seated wounds that, when acknowledged and healed, become powerful catalysts for growth. Hill then shifts to the hard truths about building a sustainable, seven‑figure business. She emphasizes that success is earned through years of consistent effort, sweat equity, and a willingness to wear many hats. She shares her own journey: 10‑12 hour workdays, $5 million in sales, a “killer team,” and ongoing long days by choice, not necessity. She stresses that sustainable success typically requires at least a year of compound, incremental work, debunking the myth of rapid, overnight riches. The core of the episode outlines practical levers: delegating tasks, running ads for leads, hiring mentors, improving messaging, and investing in personal healing. Hill underscores the importance of choosing the right mentorship containers—“the rooms you intentionally put yourself in”—as they reflect back hidden wounds and provide the environment for transformation. She repeatedly contrasts “complaining” with “building capacity,” highlighting mindset work, daily belief‑building, and radical responsibility as non‑negotiable. Finally, Hill challenges listeners to assess their commitment level, manage expectations, and adopt a proactive stance: seek mentors, ask questions, stop waiting to feel ready, and view hard work as a chosen, worthwhile path. She closes with a call to action—share the episode, DM her for mentorship, and remember that money follows impact when the inner work aligns with outer execution.

I don't know about you guys, but nobody knows me better than the notes section in my phone. It is truly like my journal. And today we're talking about what it really takes to make millions in the online space. Not the highlight reel, not the overnight success story, like the real version. And this is what I dumped into my notes section as I was reflecting on the past 6 years of building my own business And watching thousands of my clients go through this process, and what I'm going to say today could trigger you. I'm just going to say that upfront. I am a straight shooter. I don't beat around the bush. So stay with me because the trigger is usually where the healing is. It is what we need to hear. And wherever you are in your entrepreneurial journey, adding coaching, scaling your business, growing your business, maybe. Starting your business in the foundational stages, it can be scary. There is so much to learn. It is overwhelming. And the success of other people in this space, other successful entrepreneurs, it can be very triggering to us. We all have wounds that run deep, and it is like the little girl or the little boy inside of you might feel jealousy, disappointment, Envy, anger, resentment. It is like the schoolyard in adult form. That is what I wrote in my notes section. This is like the schoolyard in adult form, and the little you feels triggered in some way: jealous, disappointment, again anger, resentment. You just want to sit with the cool kids already. You just want to take a hop, skip, and a jump. You just want to have quote unquote made it already. Yes, tell me if that's not how you feel. Okay, and then you feel like, oh my gosh, everybody else is ahead of me, and it leaves you feeling not good enough, like you're gonna be left behind, like ultimately you're gonna be alone with failure. And I see it, I feel it, I have been in these feelings, I have been in these trenches, and I want you to know that When you are in close proximity to so many successful entrepreneurs, which you will be in the online space, in mentorship containers, when you are in proximity to these successful entrepreneurs, it is going to shed light and mirror back to you all of the underlying wounds that you never knew existed, that you thought you healed already. And oh my gosh, they're coming up again, but it's also going to create the biggest shifts in your life, your mentor, the container that you're in, the rooms that you intentionally put yourself in, assuming you choose to be in the right rooms, can and will be your biggest self-worth trigger and your portal to healing. That little version of you is craving love, validation, support, to be held, guidance, direction, encouragement. Praise, and you have to lean into that. I know you're in the thick of building your business. I know you're wondering, when does this get easier? When will I ever be able to work three hours a day and make real money? Is this even possible for me? Am I doing something wrong? And if you're thinking any of that, you're not alone. You're not crazy. You're not crazy for wondering any of that. But I do want to offer you some tough love, and this is what I journaled, and this is. The tough love I gave to my clients. A lot of you are comparing yourself to somebody who is decades into the game, 6 years into the game like me. The gap between where you are and where you want to be, it can feel massive, but that gap, it is only as wide as your willingness to keep going. What do I mean by this? I did not build a 7-figure business by accident. That kind of freedom wasn't handed to me. I didn't get lucky. It was earned. I had sweat equity over years of showing up before I ever had the option to take a break. I did wear all of the hats. There was a time I was working 10 to 12 hours a day laying the bricks in the foundation of the house. And fast forward, after $5 million in sales and a killer team and a dialed-in company, And great infrastructure, I still have some really long days. It's not my norm, but it is what I choose. I do it to myself. I'm my own boss, right? But because I believed in what I was building, and I still do, that's what got me to where I am. I was future-proofing my business for the season of life that I'm in now, which is very much my mom era. I have had plenty of meltdowns. I have had plenty of moments. Where I fantasized about burning it all to the ground, but then I hired, but then I delegated, then I took a step back, then I did more healing work, whatever I needed to focus on, and it always worked itself out because I didn't give up. And it always does work itself out as long as you don't give up. Building an empire is not for the weak. It's not rainbows and butterflies, and I say that with love. Here's the truth that nobody wants to say out loud: sustainable success usually takes a year minimum, not four weeks, not four months, not like poof work with me and you're gonna make millions of dollars in thirty days. Like we love to celebrate quick wins. You can absolutely have quick wins. I have taken clients from zero to a million dollars in. less than 2 years. I have taken clients from 0 to 6 figures in less than 4 months. But the norm, sustainable success, it usually takes a year minimum. Long-term growth comes from this compound effect. Small steps done consistently. This is going to create the massive momentum over time, and that momentum is going to breed momentum. It's not easy and then it's done, then you're rich and free. That's not how it works. It's hard and then it's hustle and then you find your rhythm and then it's freedom. So the true question, the real question that you need to ask yourself and that I'm going to challenge you to ask yourself is, are you willing to stick around long enough to get to the freedom? Are you in it for the long term? Are you in it for the long haul? Is it the short-term paying for the long-term gain? I never said when I was frustrated in building my business, okay, and I was in these mentorship containers, I never said this doesn't work. I never said I'm stuck. I never said I must not be cut out for this. What I said instead was, what am I missing here? How can I improve? What's the next best step? What room do I need to get myself in? What is the most powerful question I can ask right now? So this is the entire difference between the coaches who make it, the entrepreneurs who make it, and the ones who don't. I didn't quit when nobody showed up to my live launches or my live streams. I didn't spiral when all of the tech broke. Did I get frustrated? Sure, but I didn't give up. I didn't give up when friends and family judged me, and they did. Other therapists, for sure, they judged, they laughed, and now they're asking me to help them build their business. I was intimidated by social media, and Facebook I never used, and I didn't know how to figure out Instagram and the spacing in the captions, and that made me cry. I didn't know what a funnel was other than the one in my Tupperware drawer. I didn't know what a CRM was. I had to learn everything, and you can too. It can be learned. So instead of pouring energy into complaining, I poured my energy into becoming a better marketer, a better seller, a better communicator, a better copywriter, a better problem solver. Businesses make money because they solve problems. When I needed more time, I delegated. When I needed more leads, I ran ads. When I needed more answers, I hired mentors. When I needed healing, I prioritized that. When my messaging sucked because it did, I worked on that. I didn't complain about the workload. I didn't associate with the complainers in mentorship containers because they were always there, right? It's much easier to complain than it is to build a seven eight figure. Business and an empire and a legacy. I rose above. I chose to build capacity. I chose to build belief. I chose to associate myself with leaders. I chose to get in the right rooms. I chose to work on my mindset every single day. I chose to bet on myself over and over and over and over and over again. And I still do. And I stay in my lane and I stay focused even when it was hard, especially when it was hard. Because I wanted it that badly, and I still do. So if you were asking yourself, well, why am I not there yet? Will this really work for me? Why does this feel so far away? I need you to check your expectations. Are you measuring a million-dollar dream against six weeks of action? It's not about waving a magic wand and manifesting and poofing a six-figure business overnight. You can go as fast as you want. Whatever you put into it is whatever you're going to get out. And again, I've watched clients scale very, very fast. No social media presence, no niche, no LLC. It is possible, but it requires commitment and a level that most people aren't willing to operate at. There's a reason the 1% is the 1%. So check your expectations. I'm giving you the exact roadmap, real support, helping you course correct fast, avoid costly mistakes, and building your belief and building your resilience so that when hard things come, because they will, you don't quit. So the question isn't, will I be successful? What if I fail? That's not the right question to ask. The better question is, what is my commitment level to this? How am I willing to show up? Because no one, not me, not any coach for that matter, can promise you success. But I can promise you this: if you do not give up, you will achieve results. That is not even a question in my mind. That is how you are going to be successful. Okay? The proximity to success is very triggering for a reason. Let's go back full circle to what I said at the beginning. This could be triggering for you. Those feelings, the jealousy, the comparison, the why not me yet? Those are not signs that you're not meant for this, that you're weak. They are signs that you care deeply and you are meant for this, that you have big dreams, that these are your desires. That little version of you is still showing up and wanting to be seen. The wound is the work that you have to do to move through this, move Through it, up and out. That jealousy you feel when somebody else hits a milestone—that's the wound saying, "I want to hit that milestone," but I don't believe it's possible for me. And that's not the truth. That is an old story, and that's healable. You can have a new story that says, "Wow! If she did it, I could do it too." That comparison that comes when you're scrolling, you're seeing somebody who started. Who move faster than you, and then the wound is saying, I'm behind, I'm not enough, I'm going to be left behind. That's not the truth. That's also healable. The mentor, the container that you choose to be in, if you choose to be in the right one, this is going to reflect that wound back to you. This is going to help you move through it, through it, not around it. That is the work that unlocks the revenue. You cannot out-strategize a broken mindset. I will say that till I'm black and blue in the face. I say this every single training I do. The strategy is available, the roadmap is available. It almost becomes the easier part. But if you're carrying beliefs like nobody's gonna pay for that, I'm not cut out for this, you will absolutely sabotage before you even start. The inner work and the outer work always go together. You know that, right? If you desire to run both a private practice and a coaching business, you can. If you desire to only be a coach, you can. If you desire to work minimally while bringing in loads of money and helping loads of people, you can. This is all possible for you. I'm proof that this is possible. My clients are proof that this is possible. If you hang around long enough, you will be proof that this is possible. But that's the key. You have to hang around long enough. You have to have resilience. You have to have leadership. You have to have conviction to get through it. Instead of saying, this is hard, say, I'm choosing hard. This is worth it. Hard is a relative term. Okay, so I need you to be proactive instead of reactive. I need you to get a mentor, whether it's me or someone else. I need you to ask questions. I need you to use the support that is available to you. I need you to stop waiting to feel ready. I need you to be a student of the game. I need to have you see other people's success and you be inspired versus intimidated. Take responsibility for your energy, your mindset, your focus. Listen, if you're not where you are with love, this is your own fault. You gotta take radical responsibility. You have to be service-led. You have to be mission-driven. The money is a magnifier. The money will come. The money always follows the impact. You have the capacity to rise. You haven't even scratched the surface of what is available to you. So check your expectations, take action, bet on yourself, and let's fucking go. If this episode hit home for you, share it. Thank me for journaling in the notes section of my phone, my diary.
