An accountant explains three mistakes that kill growth: chasing too many low-value clients, depending only on referrals, and staying a generalist instead of picking a niche.
Three accounting firm mistakes you don't want to make first one volume. You're trying to service everyone. Instead of servicing high value clients, you're trying to serve lots of low value clients. You're never going to be able to scale that way. Number two is relying on referrals. Referrals are great for the first couple clients, but you can never pull a lever and generate quadruple the amount of referrals in one month. So relying on referrals is a big mistake. And number three, being a generalist. You want to focus on being specific to a specific niche so you're better than everyone else at serving that one thing. Instead of being a generalist or jack of all trades to anybody that's going to keep you from scaling your accounting firm. Follow for more tips on growing your accounting firm.
