This is a YouTube video titled "Learning mistakes in business #fractionalcfo" containing a monologue by Charles Leikauf recorded in June 2024. In this content, Charles shares a personal career lesson about the importance of managing emotional responses in business interactions to achieve desired results, emphasizing that being factually correct alone is not enough.
One of the biggest learning mistakes that I ever had to deal with in my entire career is being factually correct, but creating the wrong emotional response and therefore not getting the result that I wanted. I learned this years ago from a mentor of mine who I really respected, and I used to work for a really large company, and I had a dispute with someone else in a different country in the same business I'm about something. And they didn't have to do what I wanted them to do, however it was required, and it they were supposed to do it. And so I went at them very aggressively because I was factually correct, because they were not required to do it. They told me to go pound sand. And so I stimulated an incorrect emotional response, and I didn't get the result that I wanted, even though I was factually correct. And so my mentor at the time told me, charles, you were factually correct, but because you didn't establish the emotions that you wanted, you didn't get the results that you wanted. So go about it in a different way, put yourself in their shoes, and you'll get a completely better result.
