Building rapport on a call looks different depending on where someone is from. A fractional CFO explains how cultural background shapes what kind of connection works, and why the same approach won't land everywhere.
Depends upon, like, culturally. Where they are depends on their level of rapport that they're going to build. Right. We're all East Coasters here, so we don't need a super amount of rapport. Now, you meet someone in, like, rural Ohio, they might want to talk for two minutes or three minutes. You talk to someone in Germany, and if you spend more than 12 seconds doing rapport, they're going to be like, you're wasting my time. They're really emotionally intelligent ones, will realize they're talking to an American and will sit through a minute of it. Also, the challenge here is you don't want too much rapport. And the reason why that is is you want to establish that you are an author and you have high status on the call. If you have too much rapport, it lowers your status.
