Two business owners talk about what happens when clients ask for discounts. One shares how discount-seeking clients drain energy and attract more discount-seekers, while the other mentions Profit Search, a company that helps accountants land higher-paying clients instead.
The more a client pays, the easier they are to work with. I can tell you that anytime I have taken a lower rate than usual for a project, it's always those projects that are the biggest pain in the butt.
Biggest pain. But she's 100% right here. When people ask for a discount. When I used to own a cleaning company, I would hear that go, you know what, not a good fit. And I would hang up the phone. Now, as a fractional cfo, when anybody asks for a discount, the first thing I say is, would you like me to discount the results that I'm going to get you? Nobody ever says yes to that. And so here's why I don't have discount customers is because it lowers the energy of my business and it lowers the energy of me and they're usually needier. So here's what I did is a couple of years ago I started this company called Profit Search and I help accountants get higher paying clients instead of dealing with those discount clients.
