A workshop on developing "thinking fit for the future" argues that future-proofing is impossible. Instead of trying to repel every disruption, you need foresight and the ability to respond effectively to change. The workshop teaches you to cultivate the insight required to manage transformation in an uncertain future.

And if you're looking for something for your team, I have a workshop that I run called Developing Your Thinking Fit for the Future. And I've mentioned already that we can't future-proof ourselves. And it's a phrase people use all the time, but it kind of annoys me. If it's raining and you put on a waterproof rain jacket, you're protecting yourself from the rain. You're repelling the rain because you don't want to get wet. When you are future-proofing yourself, you're trying to, to get the competencies or the tools or the knowledge so that you are ready, so that the future cannot disrupt you. And it's the wrong mindset because you will never be able to do that. You will never be able to anticipate every kind of disruption. Much better to go out and play in the rain, to, to embrace the rain, to embrace the future, to embrace the changes, to know that they're not always pleasant, they're not always desired, but you cannot resist or repel or prevent them all from happening, but you can respond to them. And how are you going to respond to them? And that is what it means to be fit for the future. Fit actually stands for developing the foresight to have the insight so that we can manage the transformation required to move into the future.
