How to facilitate a meeting tip number 7: don't do all the talking yourself. When you're leading a meeting and when you are the facilitator, you end up as sort of the central figure that people look at in the, in the group discussion. That can lead to you being the one who does most of the talking. This is something that you really want to avoid. If you don't do this, you will end up speaking for most of the session. That's not a meeting that ends up with a particular purpose. That's a monologue. It also can stop you getting the input from other people in the room. If everybody feels that you are the one who is doing the talking and their job is to be there to listen, you don't get their creativity, you don't get their input, you don't get their expertise. If the purpose of the meeting is for them to listen to what you were saying, perhaps it could have been an email. If the purpose is a discussion, make sure you say the things you need to, but then allow everyone else in the room to participate in that conversation. So when you're facilitating a meeting, don't do all the talking yourself.
