How to talk about project issues, tip number 2, tell the people it impacts. When an issue occurs, we want to talk about it perhaps with our team, perhaps with the people who sit near us around our desks. The most important people to tell about an issue on a project are the people that it impacts. If you don't do this, then the people who are going to suffer the consequences of the issue won't know about it, and they might not know it soon enough to do something about it. The people who need to know about an issue are the ones that it impacts and the people who are going to do something about it, and that means the issue impacts them as well because they have to do work to try and fix, resolve, or clean up after an issue. If you don't do it, the wrong people are going to have the information, or you may wait too long to give the right people the things they need to know. How do you do it? You think about who an issue impacts. Who is going to get a worse outcome or a different outcome than they expected? Who's going to have to do work to try and fix or resolve the issue? Who's going to do work to clean up or remedy what that issue has caused? So when you're talking about an issue, make sure you tell the people that the issue impacts.
