Give stakeholders a headline, the outcome, the impact, and one key fact. Then ask if they want more. This respects their time and lets them pull details instead of drowning in them.

How to update stakeholders, tip number 10: don't give details. Give headlines and then ask the audience if they want more details. We tend to expand on a topic if we want to explain what's happening and the status of a piece of work. We'll go into detail about what's happened, what has been done, and where the work is. That's a lot of detail that isn't necessary in most status updates. Instead, give the headline, state the outcome, state the impact, give a piece of information, and then ask if the audience wants to hear more. If they're interested, they'll ask. If they're not interested, they'll be grateful that you didn't spend a lot of time talking about things they didn't care about. So if you're updating stakeholders, make sure that you don't give too much detail.
