How to update stakeholders, tip number 8, limit your update to 3 topics. If we talk about more than 3 topics in an update, we're going to forget what the first one is by the time you've come to the fourth. People's short-term memories, focus, and attention are short. We find it easy to remember 3 things. We find it hard to remember 4, 5, 7, or 8 things. So how do you pick the 3 things to give a status update on? As we've talked about before in this series, Stick to things that the audience needs to know, things that impact them, things that they care about, and things that you need. These are the topics that have the greatest impact on them and the outcome for the work. So when you are updating stakeholders, try and limit your status update to a maximum of 3 topics.
