How to write great emails, tip number 13: when forwarding an email chain, always add a summary. Whenever you forward an email chain to new people, don't expect them to read every single thing in the whole email chain. The polite and the right thing to do is include a short summary of the conversation up to that point, and include why you've added them to the email chain, or why you forwarded the messages to them. If you don't do this, you're forcing the other person to scroll back and read through 20 different emails, and they have to try and understand why you've added them to this, why you forwarded them this information. So how do you do it? Well, when you forward an email chain, include a short summary. Hi, I'm forwarding this to you because we're trying to achieve this goal. There's a particular problem. We need your input. We want a response. Whatever it is, summarize what's been discussed up to that point in 3 or 4 lines. Make it clear what you want from the other person, and then they will understand why you forwarded the email chain, and they won't have to read through absolutely everything to get that information. So if you want to write great emails, make sure you include a summary when you forward an email chain.
