How to write a great email. Tip number 4: say when you need a response. If you need someone to take an action or reply, give you information, you need to tell them when you need it. And you need to tell them early in your email. If you don't do this, someone might see that you've requested a report or you're looking for a decision, but they might think it's not important and they might wait a few days or a week to get back to you. When people don't know the timeframe that you are looking for, they'll pick their own and it probably won't match what you need. So how do you do this? Well, once you've asked what you need in the email, or once made it clear what you want them to do or need a response, just say, can you let me know today? I need this by Friday. I'm looking for something by the 15th of the month. Whatever your timeframe is, make sure you say it in your email. If you do this, you'll get the response you want, or you're more likely to get the response that you want in the timeframe that you need. So if you want to write great emails, make sure you say the timeframe you want for a response.
