Short transcript excerpt from a conversation (Sherwin interviewing Brian Johnson) offering practical advice for quitting bad habits. Brian outlines two approaches in his book, emphasizing a mechanical, systems-based method: define a strong 'why', set specific success criteria, eliminate triggers, prepare a blueprint and get accountability.
For those that are trying to get rid of a bad habit, whether it's drinking too much or watching porn or surfing social media, what are some simple tricks and tips that you can give to listeners to get rid of that?
There's two ways to quit bad habits, and we cover them both in the book. And the first one is formulaic, systematic, mechanical. With here systems, you're going to you're going to create your big why, you're going to have your specific definition of success. You're going to start to eliminate things, specific definitions of success. Build your blueprint, eliminate plan and prepare better and get accountability. Build that system. And that's the mechanical way of stopping anything.
