Chris Larsen traces Jerry Buss's path from professor to Lakers owner, showing how Buss pooled capital with friends to invest in real estate before buying the team. Larsen applies this strategy to his own investment approach.
My brother Kevin was reading this article about Jerry Buss, and Jerry Buss is the legendary owner of the LA Lakers. In this article, it talks about how he was a professor. He loved his job, but he couldn't afford to be a professor. Like, that's what he wanted to do, but he couldn't make enough to do it. So him and five of his other buddies each put in a little bit each month. Actually, it was like $150 a month. And to buy a building in West LA Rest is history, of course. He builds this incredible real estate empire, buys the Lakers. And reading this, we're like, wait, that's how he did it. And we finally just committed to it. Say, listen, let's. Let's stop talking about deals we can't afford. Let's pull our capital together and find confidence and safety in numbers, right? Spread the risk, stack the capital and get into deals that maybe we wouldn't or couldn't on our own.
