A short YouTube monologue by Chris Larsen arguing that heavy social media and news consumption can reduce happiness and drain mental energy. The speaker recommends cutting out social media/news and replacing them with cognitive habits (positivity, gratitude) and lifestyle practices (diet, physical activity) to reset mental energy within a day or two.
Get rid of social media. You know, there's studies now that show the more you're on social media, the less happy you are because people put, they put stuff on there. It's like, oh, look how, look how great things are. And you know, that might not even be their car that they're in the picture with. You feel self conscious. You're like, oh, I could be doing better. Yes. I told my family after one of the elections, the next morning I got up and I said, you know what? That's it. We're canceling. We're canceling the news. We're not watching this anymore. Like, this is just not. There's no good. You know, there's all these little things, you know, that you can do and then replace it with, you know, teach your mind to be positive. It's really the basics, you know, the gratitude, getting your mind right. But, you know, you mentioned this as well, diet. You know, when I'm not, when I'm not doing well mentally, I go to my diet and my physical activity. Yes. And I go back to the basics, and I find that if I do that within a day or two, I can reset my mental energy.
