Airborne diseases like measles, chickenpox, TB, and COVID spread through particles smaller than 5 µm. Four rules protect healthcare workers: negative-pressure private rooms, N95 respirators for staff, surgical masks on patients who move, and doors always closed.

Airborne precautions are used for diseases that are spread by small airborne particles that are less than 5 microns in size. So this is measles, chickenpox, tuberculosis, COVID 19 and then key measures for airborne precautions private room with negative pressure, which means that that air flows into the room but not out of the room. Then we have a respiratory protection. So health care workers must wear A fit tested N95 or higher efficienc particular respirator when entering an airborne precautions room and then limited transport. So if the patient needs to be transported, the patient should wear a surgical mask for that. And then the room door must remain closed at all times. That prevents a lot of that airflow from going in and out.
