How to pass ALL your NURSING SCHOOL CLASSES!

Christina Rafano and Matthew coach nursing students on passing their classes. They teach a four-pillar framework for every disorder: pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment, and nursing interventions. Critical thinking beats memorization, and for pharmacology, group drugs by therapeutic class rather than memorizing individual ones.

Hello.
Hello.
Hello, everyone.
So sorry, we're a few minutes behind a little bit. Okay.
Working out some stuff.
We're working out some technology. Sorry, we're like four minutes late.
Okay, everyone.
Hello, everyone. Happy Monday.
Yes.
Welcome to Monday, almost Tuesday.
How is everyone doing?
Slash, where are you at in the world?
Yes. And where are you at in nursing school? By. In the way.
By the way. Hi, Fernandez. Hello. Hi. From Kansas City.
Candy.
Hello.
Hello.
Hello.
Welcome. Welcome, everyone.
All right. Malaysia. So far you win. Brazil. Fabulous. Malaysia. Little farther than Brazil, I suppose from us.
Yes. Tell us where you're from. We are running a contest every time, every time. Who's farthest away from us.
So today we're talking about all the things studying in nursing school. So stick around. This is going to be juicy, my friends.
Oklahoma, a lot of tips for you. Miami, Ohio. Excellent.
Georgia.
Excellent.
Niagara College.
Awesome.
New York. Wisconsin. Washington. Yes. We're going to talk about pharmacology. We're going to talk about med surg. We're going to talk about fundamental. We're going to talk about all of it.
We're going to talk about all of it.
Because stick around.
We got some questions, right? You asked for questions from the Instagrams.
Yes.
And we are going to.
I posted an Instagram story last week with a sticker saying, submit your questions. And we got questions basically covering all the stuff. So we're going to cover all the stuff today in this video.
This is exciting. Exciting. Hello, everyone. Welcome. From all over the US it looks like here on the tubes.
On the tubes. Oh, thank you, Instagram.
Shannon, hello. And thanks for helpful info. Thank you, Christina, for all the helpful info.
Oh, you're so welcome. I'm so glad you guys are here. Okay, thank you.
So let's jump in. Let's do it.
First thing I want to say, yes, I'm getting a lot of questions. Not rather. It's not really a question. I'm getting a lot of DMS and stuff. Messages from students who have been saying that they are scared to start nursing school, scared to take their exams. They don't know what's happening. Everything feels so overwhelming and all of that. And I get it. You guys like nursing school. It will challenge you in ways that you never even thought possible. Right. Have you had this experience where you're like, oh, I thought I was capable of things. And then you get into nursing school and you're like, oh, barely. I'm not capable of these things yet. So that's the thing. You are capable of them, but you have to Step outside your comfort zone and try new things. So, friends, if you have a thousand exams coming up, which we all do, right, don't freak out about it. You are so capable of handling all of it. You are capable of getting through and passing your exams. You can do this. Okay. Just been getting so many messages about it, and I do not want you to continue to beat yourself up. Tell yourself that you can't do it or it's too hard or it's too overwhelming. All the things like, that's not helpful for you. You will not study. So you will not be able to study and focus on studying if you are in. If you keep beating yourself up, right? Like, it's hard to study when we're just constantly telling ourselves, oh, this is so hard and I can't do it and it's impossible. It's a lot easier to study when you're in, like, that mindset of, no, I can actually do this, and I'm making this happen. Like, I am doing this. I am progressing and I am studying and I am trying to. Right? Like, that is a much better space to be in than, like, I can't do this. It's impossible. It's too hard. I can't do it.
All this stuff. So, Candy, don't let the thoughts and opinions of others discourage you. That's 100% correct. And let's see, what. What else did I see? Oh, nursing journey with key. Hello. Hello. You were saying? Med surg is hard, I hear. And that's something else. We actually just dropped our YouTube video. We drop a new YouTube video every Monday, and the beginning of that one talks about rumors a little bit and how much you hear and whether that's even helpful for you. So go ahead. If you have not checked that out, go look at that after our live. Yeah, a lot of people say a lot of things, but a lot of times it's not very helpful for you.
So, Sarah, on Instagram, I feel like the most difficult part of school is time management and burnout 100%. So here's the thing, you guys. If you are feeling burned out or like you can't do it or you're not motivated or you're stressed or confused, you are not going to be as efficient with studying. Like, of all the study tips, I could tell you, you've got to focus your study time and make sure that that time that you spend studying is the most efficient and productive as possible. Because you do not want to waste time with all the brain drama, right? Beating yourself up, telling Yourself, you cannot do it. Right. That's not helpful for you. That will just make your studying like. You'll have to just reread the same sentence over and over and over again. Right. Because you're not going to be focused. You're going to have to study the same thing for a longer time because you're not actually focused when you're studying. You're beating yourself up instead. Not helpful for you. Okay.
Yeah. It's just taking up space in your mind where. And as soon as you can just drop that, drop those thoughts, then you suddenly have that extra brain space or that extra capacity to actually focus on what you're supposed to be focusing on.
Yes. Oh, nursing SOS members. By the way, tomorrow I will be doing a live coaching call inside our community. So I'm going to bring you on video. We're going to talk about this. So if you have anxiety, if you are feeling burned out, unmotivated, if you are just stuck in this, like, overwhelmed state, like, I'm going to bring you on video, let's talk about it. I'm going to coach you through that to help you move past it. So just keep that in the back of your mind. Tomorrow we're going to do a coaching call inside our community.
And if you're not part of our community, part of our membership, we are open. It's open this week, so get in until Friday. Get in tonight so that you can join the coaching call tomorrow.
Yes.
So go to nursingschoolofsuccess.com, join in Instagram, check the bio. Right. And here in YouTube, I'll go ahead and put it in. But yes, definitely we are open. We are. We do limited enrollments, so we are currently open till Friday. So get in on that.
Yep. And you guys, after Friday, the price goes up. So Friday, when it closes, the next time we have a enrollment, the price is going to go up. So make sure that if you want. Well, we talked about this last week on our live too. Like, we have a ton of ton of new updates coming for the nursing SOS membership community. Like, you've got to join now. Like, if there was any time, if you have been holding out to join the community, you've got to join this week. The price will be going up and we're going to be dropping a ton of updates. Start like over the next several months, really. And so if you want the new updates at the current price, you have to join by Friday.
2023 is going to be big. I think someone mentioned on Instagram what time for your coaching.
It's going to be, I think in the evening, evening. I will be scheduling it in the community. So Matthew and I will talk about it and yeah, we talked about a little, you know, and then I will schedule it inside the community as an event and you can RSVP inside our community forum. So check it out. I joined last night. This sounds exciting. Yes.
Awesome.
So excited.
Candy, you have a lot of really good comments. Stay positive, manage your time, stay focused, take breaks during study times. Yes. So we have a lot of tips, tricks and hints on. Yeah, really?
Really.
I guess some people say time management. It's not really time management. I like the alternative title for it. It's you management.
It's you management. So you can't manage time, how to manage time, no matter what.
Yes. Unfortunately, we all have the same amount of time every day. So it's not really time management, it's you management. And yes, all of that is really, really good information. And yes, what we were talking about earlier, make sure that you're focusing on the right things and the rumors. Not really helpful for you.
Yes. You know what? Okay, now that you mentioned it, Christina's gonna go on a soapbox real quick. So I posted on Instagram, I think it was yesterday, maybe it was last week, and I posted about, like, not listening to the nursing school rumors. And if someone had commented on there and said, well, most of the rumors are true. Okay, here's the thing I want to say about that, friends. Like, let's think about this. Even if the rumors are true, if they make you freak out about nursing school, is that helpful for you? So, you know, even if something's true, is it still something you want to be thinking about? Like, if it's like, you know, not a helpful thing to be thinking about. If you, if everyone in your class or everyone in your program really says that one instructor is so hard, like, sure, quantitatively that might be true. But is that a helpful thought for you to be thinking going into the term? Probably not. Okay, so let's just be realistic about it, okay? Like, let's decide. Let's decide ahead of time what is helpful and what is not helpful. Okay, so even if the, like, some of the rumors you hear, sure, they might be true, but is that really a useful thought to be thinking? Probably not. It's going to take you out of, you know, really. It's going to make you be a lot more negative about nursing school and about life. Right. There's so much negativity about nursing school, and that is Just not helpful for you. Not helpful at all. Your guys's comments are fabulous. Thank you so much.
Nursing journey with key. No, just think positive. You can definitely get through it. Yes. So think on the. Think on whatever is good, whatever is.
True, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable. If anyone. There you go.
Also, nursing journey with key. Will you guys talk about the new nclex? So we do have a couple lives that we have talked about the new nclex. It's really not that big a deal. I know that a lot of people are worried. Again, don't worry popping up or rumors about, oh, how hard it's going to be or what changes or whatever. We do have a couple lives that talk about it all our lives, by the way, for those on Instagram are on YouTube. We keep all our lives. So, yeah, you can go ahead and watch the research, watch replays on that. We'll probably touch on that maybe in the future live.
Yeah, probably. So many students are asking about it. Yeah. The great news is so many of you guys actually on, especially on Instagram, you're nursing as those members already. So if you are a nursing member, like, do not worry, do not worry about the new wine class because the. How we prepare you in the membership community. Well, it's just gonna help you so much when you go and take the ngn, because here's why. The videos inside the Nursing Answers membership community give you the critical thinking behind everything. So we walk you through, like, why things happen, why the signs and symptoms happen, what the. What's happening inside the body. Like the patho. We walk you through the patho, we connect it to the signs and symptoms, the nursing assessment, the nursing interventions. We walk you through all the critical thinking you have to know, and that is what you're going to be tested on in your nursing school exams and on the ngn. So if you're a nursing SSLS member, like, don't even worry. Okay.
Yes.
You're gonna just breeze. Yep. It is. Let's talk about. Okay, who's in Med Search, who's in Fundamentals? What do you want first?
Okay. Well, people are voting or saying that. Go ahead and answer this real quick. Kimberly Pope. I wonder if I'm studying the right content.
Yeah.
Because I feel like it's all over the place. One week in an ugg. One week in. I hope I said ugg, right. But congratulations.
Yay.
So how do you know if you're studying or if you're studying the right stuff?
Yes. So there are a couple parameters we use to make sure that you are studying the right things. So we always recommend. Who is that?
That is Kimberly.
Hi, Kimberly. We always recommend that you focus on studying the things that your instructors talk about in class. And here's why. Your instructors, they either wrote your exam or they know what's on your exam. And the things that they teach you in class is what's most likely to show up on your exam. Now, I know I get a ton of pushback when I tell students this because there's always students that say, well, Christina, our school, you know, test us on everything from the textbook or, like, the footnotes or these things. Or these things. Or these things. And sure, okay, you might get some random questions on your exam, but by and large, your exams are going to be. What about what you talked about in class? And so here's really the thing you have to consider. You do not want to miss out on, like, 85% or 90% of the content just because you're trying to get the 10% right. Does that make sense? So you want to focus. This is the whole thing about working smarter, not harder, right? We want to focus on the 90%. Don't focus on the 10%. Like, just let those questions go. Okay? Focus on the 90%. That is what you're most likely going to be tested on are the things that your instructors talk about in class. Now, Kimberly, another one is to. Well, this is a lot about med surge and fundamentals. So if you are in fundamentals or med surge, drop up your favorite emoji for me, please.
Yes.
Someone dropped me a turtle. Someone dropped me a turtle. Med surge. Wow. Med surge op. So many of you would be.
We got some fundamentals here as well.
Yeah, yeah. Fundamentals. Fundamentals. P. Med surge.
What is that? Nursing journey with key.
Is that a. I don't know what that is. Red blood cell.
Yeah.
Yeah. Thanks for the turtles, my friends. You know, that's my favorite emoji. You guys rock. Okay? So for fundamentals or med search or even pediatrics or even ob, Anytime. Okay? Anytime you guys are studying a disorder. All right, so this could be, like, if you're in fundamentals and you're studying diabetes or stroke or heart failure, like, those are really common ones to study in fundamentals. Or if you're in med surge and you're studying, like, the more complex ones, like ards or, I don't know, give me a complex one. Diabetes insipidus or diabetic ketoacidosis. Those are Common med surg disorders. Or if you're in pediatrics and you're studying the viral, you know, all the virus stuff that can happen with little fingers. Or if you're in OB and you're studying like gestational diabetes. Anytime you are studying a disorder, there are four main things that you want to focus on. Okay, you ready? Can someone please write this down so that everybody can see it? Okay, somebody write it down on Instagram. Somebody write it down on YouTube. Okay. As I go through it. Pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment, and nursing interventions. Okay, got it. Those four things, somebody write it down on YouTube and Instagram just so everyone can see it in the comments. Pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment, and nursing interventions. Those are the four main things that you have to know for any disorder that you are learning about in nursing school. Any of them. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Eccentric pathos, signs and symptoms, nursing infections, nursing assessment.
Awesome. Love it.
Excuse me. Good.
Hi, Kathy. Wonderful. Yes, nursing interventions. Do we really learn all of that in nursing school? Yes. No, you learn all that in nursing school. Like the patho, the signs and symptoms, the nursing assessment and the nursing interventions. Same thing with mental health. Seriously, if you're learning like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Yeah. You know, the thing with that is like the pathos gonna be a little fuzzy because we don't really know. But you do have the signs and symptoms, the nursing assessment and the nursing interventions for all those things. So that is a fabulous, fabulous point. Psych as well. So OB, PEDs, all this. So yes, pathos, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment and nursing intervention. You have to focus on those four main things. I know your instructors or your school, they're going to tell you that you need to know everything about everything about everything. It's just not true, my friends. Just not true. If you try, like we just talked about, if you try to know everything, you are really setting yourself up for failure on your exam. That would really be focusing on the 10% of stuff and then like ignoring the 90% of things. We want to focus on the 90%. Right. Like study smarter, not harder. Right? 90%. There you go. You passed. So focus on those four main categories. Pathos, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment, and nursing interventions. And friends, all our nursing as those members out there, because I know there's a lot of you on this call right now. This is why we break out all of the disorders like in our membership community in this way. So we give you the four videos for every disorder. This is why it is so, so important because this is what you have to know. So inside the community, if anyone wants to join, you've got to get a. Now, like we talked about, we are going to walk you through, step by step, everything you need to know to pass your exam. So if you're like, Christina, this sounds way too overwhelming. I can't learn patho by myself. I, I, you know, I don't know how to connect the signs and symptoms and the patho together. I don't know how to critically think, that's fine, we walk you through it. So you don't have, you should not have to figure it out by yourself. We're here. That's why we created the Nursing ESSENCE membership community. We're here to hold your hand through nursing school. So don't worry. Gotcha.
And all the sections, all the videos, all the disorders within the membership community is set up that way to study those four main things. And I saw someone comment, what do you study in patho? And patho is very important. I saw a couple comments that, oh, patho is my worst or things like that. But patho is probably the cornerstone. That's the one main one you really need to focus on. Why?
Why is that a question for me? Thank you setting me up there, babe. Patho is so important. If you don't know what is happening in the body, then you're not going to understand what signs and symptoms it could cause. You're not going to understand what nursing assessments you'll need to do or what nursing interventions you need to do. It all connects back to the patho. And friends, I gotta tell you, no one teaches patho like we do. Like no one teaches it as well as we do. It is so helpful. We break patho down step by step. Like, this is just how my brain works. My brain likes steps I like to see, okay, this happens and then this happens and then this happens. And I know our members do too. So that's how we teach pathophysiology. It's not this like, you know, reading it in the textbook, trying to figure out what's going on? No, like we literally tell you step by step, here's what happens and here's what happens. And here's like we hold your hand through the whole process for patho and then we walk you through the signs, symptoms, and the nursing assessment and the nursing interventions and connect it all back. And that is your critical thinking, my friend. You have got to make sure that you are focused on critical thinking. So that was the next thing I.
Wanted to say, okay, critical thinking.
When you are studying for nursing school, critical thinking is everything. They are not going to test you on how well you memorize stuff ever.
They're not going to. They're not going to have you just memorize lists of the signs and symptoms and on your test say, oh, which was the 15th symptom.
Yeah.
No, no.
Not going to work that way.
It's all about how to be a better nurse and how to prep you on being the best nurse you can be.
Yes.
And that is critical thinking. That's thinking outside the box. That's taking the patho and critically thinking about it and extrapolating the information you need when you're talking to your patients.
Yes. Application. Application. Application. Thank you for saying that so many times.
Love it.
Application.
Yes.
Yes. You need to be able to apply what you know. That's the whole point. You can't just memorize stuff. You have to critically think about it, apply what you're learning about. Because on your nursing school exams, they're going to give you case scenario questions, case studies, patient situations, priority questions, all that. Kathy, thank you. It's all based on your patient. And you have to be able to take the information that you learned and apply it to that case scenario question to that patient situation. This is what we train you to do inside the community because we walk you through the critical thinking behind it. We connect all the dots for you. Like, we help you do this. We connect everything back to the patho. We don't just give you a list of signs and symptoms to memorize because that is not helpful for you guys. Help. How many times have you gone onto YouTube, seen a video out there about nursing that just gives you a list of signs and symptoms to memorize or a list of nursing assessments that is not helpful.
And just imagine that, I mean, all the disorders that you're going to be going through throughout nursing school or throughout just your nursing journey, there's going to be a lot of disorders, a lot of things that you need to learn. And if you're trying to learn lists and lists for every single one, that's going to be a tremendous amount of work.
Yes.
And definitely not the most efficient way of doing it.
No, definitely, definitely not. You have to be able to critically think and understand why those things happen. So that's why we do it inside the nursing SSL membership community. We connect the signs and symptoms back to the patho for you. We walk you through why the those happen, why the nursing assessments, why we do them, why we do the nursing interventions that we do for these disorders, all of that. Do you have a video explaining Maslow's? Yes, we absolutely do. It's inside our fundamentals course.
His. His pyramid. Good stuff.
Pyramid. Good stuff. And that is also like, actually that's a fabulous point that I should mention. If you are in fundamentals right now, if you're in med search, I mean, you guys, the nursing as this membership community, we hear it all the time. Like students will get to the middle of their program and they're like, why did I not know about this before? Because it would have been just life changing. And truly, truly it is because, like if you are struggling with fluid and electrolytes, if you are studying, struggling with priority questions, you guys, like, we walk you through the principles that you need to understand to answer your test questions correctly. So we walk you through all of these things inside the community. Our fluid and electrolyte course, I just posted about it on Instagram yesterday because it's fabulous. I mean it is fabulous. If you're struggling with dose calc. We have our entire dose calc course and it is bomb, you guys. It is so amazing. Our nursing members, they just don't struggle with doscalc. It's because it's so simple. Like we break it down for you. It is so, so simple. We hold your hand through the whole thing.
So if you'd like to join. I saw someone saying, I'd love to join. Be sure to check it out. We are in an open enrollment right now till the end of the week. So go ahead and take a look at that. Go to nursing schoolofsuccess.com join.
Yeah, or the link is in my bio on Instagram and I'll pop it.
Again back in in the comments here on YouTube. Let's see. Velvet and Amira just asked, did I miss any tips for students doing their first semester of nursing school? Everything we're talking about right now is helpful for everyone, especially people just starting out. Also, a couple of our just recent YouTube videos is about starting out and the things that you can do. The one that just dropped today has really good information. Top three tips to do when you're just starting out. So be sure to take a look at that. We know that there's a lot of people just starting out. Yeah, took a guess because it was January and that's what happens in January. So yeah, we're kind of focusing on, on that, on what people are to expect and what to do when you first join.
Who edits your videos? I enjoy the Editing.
That would be me.
That'd be this guy. Okay. And friends, you just got to appreciate it. The last several videos have been me recording them at 4, 4:30 in the morning. And I tell you, like, Matthew laughs at me every time because, like, you just never know what's gonna come out of my mouth at 4:30.
The past couple ones. If you've enjoyed that format, look forward to more because this is what's happening.
This is what's happening. Now Christina's a little bit. I'm a Little Sassier at 4:30 in the morning than I usually am in those videos. So I think it's been fun. And I have heard from a lot of students, students that they enjoy it. So we'll just keep going.
But they're super happy. Thank you very much. I think you're the first one that.
Said that to us.
So yay.
Don't see the video. It's on YouTube. So, yeah, the videos that Matthew.
So nursing or YouTube.com nursing SOS will go to our channel and just check out all our videos again. All our lives, previous lives are there. You can go check out the replays and. Yeah.
Oh, I didn't tell you. We were just on a coaching call inside our community tonight, and one of the students said that her instructor uses our discount stuff in class. Like, she passed out our conversion sheet as a. Like a. Not an assignment, but like a practice sheet. That's so funny. That happens all the time. Yeah. So super fun. If your school uses our nursing SOS stuff. I don't know. That's super.
Shout us out.
Shout us out. That's so fun. We're happy to help. Hey, you guys, also, I should mention here that our. Well, I talked about it, I think two weeks ago, and then I posted it on my stories on Instagram a couple days ago. But our goal is to help 20,000 nursing students pass nursing school.
And you can be part of that.
And you can be part of that.
You can be one of the 20,000. So.
Yes. So exciting.
We are setting that as our goal.
Yes. And we're blazing through.
We are.
Holy moly. Did I tell you? I didn't tell you. We, like, it's okay. Let me back up. Enrollment has been open for like, less than 48 hours and we have over 100 students that have joined so far. Like, I didn't even look over the past few hours, but it's going to be like we have like crossed 100 students, like, early this morning. It's. It just blows my mind. We are so Excited to help you pass nursing school, you guys. Like, I can't even. I am so on fire for this. It's gonna be awesome. Yes, it will be open for a limited time only until Friday because we are close. Well, we always close it because we just. We like to focus on our members rather than, like, getting more students in. We do like to just focus on helping them pass. So once you're in, like, you have our undivided attention. Our whole nursing team, everyone, you know, like, you can submit questions to our nursing team anytime we answer them. It's fabulous. We're inside our community forum. Like, you get access to everything, which is fabulous. We also have a ton of updates coming over the next several months. So you do want to make sure that you join by this Friday because you will get the current price plus all the updates because when enrollment opens again, the price is going up.
All right. And I just saw someone. Oh, all right, scroll up just a little bit. Just another question about someone. Oh, another new, new NCLEX question. Again, we've talked about the new NCLEX on previous lives, but I guess that one there. Apply yeah or no. Yeah. Yeah. When should I apply for nursing school? Just someone that's just graduated from their. Oh, yeah, Associate's degree. Right.
Yay.
Or going to be graduating your associates. Congratulations. So. And asking when to apply to nursing school. So.
Well, whenever you want.
Yeah, that's really up to you on timing and your. What's going on?
Redo Med surg. While I wait, any suggestions on what can help me? Redo Med surg. Okay, can you clarify? Sorry, did I miss. Oh, yeah, I wish. See, Kathy, we hear this all the time. Like, I wish I had joined sooner. Students tell us this all the time. I was just telling Matthew it is such a bummer when we close. When we close enrollment. Because Friday, like Friday evening, you got. When does enrollment close?
What time it closes? 3 at 3 Pacific.
3 Pacific, 6 o' clock Eastern. So 3 Pacific, 6 o' clock eastern.
That does throw people off because we do close a little early on Friday, so be sure to hop on as soon as you can.
Join now. Don't hold right now. Don't hold off, don't wait, because you will forget. And students forget all the time. And then they message us, like, right after it closes. And you guys, it kills me every time. Don't do that to me. Don't do that to me. Yeah, we didn't hear all this stuff till our last two semesters. Yes, that's what I'm telling You got to get well. Yeah. You guys, seriously, like, this is important things. These are important things for you to know. All of these study tips, like your schools are really not going to tell you this in this way. Right. It's just, I don't know why, to be honest with you. I don't know why.
We want you to succeed and we want you guys to be the best nurses possible available. And so what we teach in the membership community will help you do that.
Yep. Okay, two things I want to talk about real quick because we had two more questions. Pharmacology and then death in nursing. Someone, someone sent us a comment on, you know, asking for us to talk about it on the live. So we're going to talk about how to handle death in, you know, on the floor. So pharmacology, let's talk about that first. So pharmacology inside our membership community we have a very defined step by step process for how to study for pharm. And again, like I wish nursing schools taught you this, but they don't. So alas, here we are to teach it to you. Because you guys telling you everything you've heard about studying pharmacology, if you haven't heard it from us, is just wrong. Not the way to do it. Like it's. Studying pharmacology does not have to be as complicated as you're probably thinking that it does. So we have a very defined step by step process inside the membership community for you. So you've got to go through it. If you're struggling with pharm learning all your medications, I mean there's a lot of medications, so make sure that you jump in there. The first thing I want to say about farm, make sure you are breaking up your medications by class. Okay. By pharmacologic or therapeutic class. That is the best way to study pharmacology. Instead of studying them individually, you will be able to group them them together and learn them that way. Instead of learning like 12 medications individually, you can group them all together and learn them as one group because all the medications within one pharmacologic or therapeutic class will act the same or similar in the body. So helpful. So make sure that you are, you know, kind of following that system, grouping them by my class and that is really the best way to study. But inside the membership community we walk you through like all the steps for how to do all of it.
Because just like med surge and how there's a four main things to study. Same kind of same thing applies for farm, that there's specific Things that you want to just focus on to get that all the. All the information in as efficiently as.
Possible and the same thing inside. So, members, we have the whole medication database inside the community for you, so you don't have to go through your drug guide to learn all your medications. Like, just let us teach it to you. So much easier. Like we just. Yeah, we teach it to you. No big deal. You don't have to figure it out by yourself. We just make it so easy. So. Yes. Cool. Anything you want to say about farm?
Let's see about Farm. No, I think those are the main things. Group them by class. Yeah, because they all. Everyone in class works similarly, so it's just a lot easier on the brain. Again, any of these kind of shortcuts or things of grouping things together so that you're not repeating your work. I think that's. That's a key part.
Absolutely. We want to study smarter, not harder. That is the goal. Okay, you guys, I just. I really want you to know that when enrollment closes on Friday, the price is to going. Going up, so please don't email us. The price is going up on Friday, so you've got to join if you want to get all the new updates for the Nursing Assist membership community, plus the current price because we're going to be dropping a ton of new stuff over the next several months. Make sure that you join right now, this week before Friday, because the price will be going up. So nursing schoolofsuccess.com forward/join. Yeah, do you want to put that link? Well, it's there, I guess.
Yeah, it's. It's there on YouTube in the comments is the link to go to to take a look to join the membership. So.
Yay, Denise.
Schoolofsuccess.com join.
I was able to join membership as soon as I got the alert that it was open. Hooray. I'm in pharmacology now and it's already helping me while I'm doing my practice questions. Yes. So exciting. And Denise, of course, because you're nursing SS member, if you have any questions, like you guys know, email us, submit a tutor form. Our nursing team is here for you. So if you have any questions at all, just send us a tutor form. That's what we're here for. Okay. We are here to answer your questions. Okay, let's talk about deaf and nursing real quick. Pale. Pale. Hello. I had to do postmortem care on my first semester, and I was lost and heartbroken. I would be, too. That's really Tough. Especially your first, your first time. Okay, so here is, here is kind of my thoughts about it, which is probably not helpful for you, but I'm going to tell you anyway. When I was in nursing school, like there was definitely. Yeah, there's definitely times, you know, you do have to deal with death. And to be honest, I just don't deal with it very well. So the biggest thing that I want to say is that like Payo, Payo, you mentioned that you did postmortem care your first semester. I want you guys to know that you can like talk to your instructor and you can opt out of those things if you want to work with the instructor. Like, you don't have to be put in a position that would, you know, compromise you emotionally, mentally, physically, whatever. Especially as a student, you know, that's just not appropriate for me. Like, I feel as though I, I had a bit of a traumatic experience as well in nursing school and it just totally turned me off to, you know, particular floors. I've talked about it before on another life, but I'm not going to go into it here. It's just, you know, you have to know yourself and you have to know what your gifting is. I don't want to say ability because you can expand your ability to handle those things, but there's also a point where you just have to know kind of your like, who you are. Right. I don't know, how would you put that? Like your like your boundaries or your like, like who you are emotionally.
I guess you can also call it your gifts too. I mean, some people really do on, on the other side really gravitate to that and can, can really help people during, and patients, loved ones and things like that during that time. So yeah, it's really getting in touch with what you're comfortable with, what you're not, and what your gifts are and what your gifts are not.
Yes.
And focus on those.
Yes. You know, God gives us all different gifts and there's a lot of people who handle it very well and then there's a lot of people like me who do not. So I was very particular with choosing my specialties after graduating. I was not going to put myself in a position where I would have to deal with that on a regular basis because that is not who I am. That is not how I, I just don't handle it well. Like, and I've worked like long term care and stuff and I've had a lot of patients die. Right. I mean, that's just part of life. It's just. I know that that's not. It's not my favorite thing, so. And here's another thing to you guys. Like, all specialties are different, and you can choose where you work, you know, based on, like, Monica was saying, your gifts. And, like, it's not uncommon for, like, pediatric nurses to. To leave pediatric nursing, especially if you have young children the same age that your patients are, and you see your patient struggling. Like, that's very hard. It's very difficult. Oncology, there's a lot that goes on with burnout and just the mental exhaustion. So you have to really take care of yourself, know yourself and your gifting, and really lean into that. I just. I want to encourage you that if you are like me and you just don't handle it well, that's okay. You do not need to be forced to handle it well, you know, like, you know, Jesus said, I have come so you can have life and life abundantly. That's not death, my friends, you see here. So we can have life and life abundantly. Like, death to us is hard. It is hard. So give yourself grace through that whole thing. You know, if you are struggling with processing anything that you see on a floor or. Or even if you're concerned about having an experience like that, talk to your school, talk to your instructor. You have to open those lines of communication. You have to. That's just like, don't. Don't be afraid of that. Okay? Like, protect yourself. Protect yourself. Okay? Advocate for yourself. We're always advocating for our patients. We have to advocate for ourselves as well. Right?
Sarah makes a good point. A lot of students don't know how. Don't know that they can say no to the professors and the. But the profs are. They're human and they are understanding. There are other opportunities that you can have.
100%. 100%, yes. Yep. Talk to your instructors often. So oftentimes we're scared to talk to our instructors, but that's what they're there for. Yep. Yep, that's what they're there for. All right, my friends, next week, should we talk about the NGN next week?
We can do that. We got quite a few questions about the ngn, so let's talk about it next week. Yeah, we did not get to that this week, but let's talk about next week. What do you think, guys?
Let's do it. NGN sound good?
Okay.
Yep. Rolling into winter. I guess this is winter term, you know? You know, Denise, did you know what department you wanted to work while in nursing school? I Had ideas. I certainly knew what I didn't want to do. I think that's more what it was. I certainly knew what I didn't want to do, Denise. And then I just leaned into my strengths. I also, yeah, I would say that like I knew what I absolutely didn't want to do. And then, and, and still even now, you know, I'm, I don't know, you know, sometimes I think like, oh, I could video go work there because that just sounds fun, you know, I don't know. So nursing is so fun because you can do that, right? There's so many different places you can work. And you know, if you've been working somewhere for a while and, or even if you haven't done, you know, and you just decide, oh, I'm gonna go try that. Like, go try that. Because there's a lot of different places you can work. It's fabulous. It's a fabulous professional fashion. You guys, seriously, we are all so blessed to be here. So friends, next week we're talking about ngn.
Let's, let's make it next generation.
