Hello.
Good morning, everyone. Happy Monday to everyone.
Happy Monday. In this video today we are talking about how to pass nursing school. The best tips ever.
The top tips. So welcome to the Nursing School show. This is Christina.
Hello.
This is Matthew.
Nice to meet you.
Where we discuss nursing school things. Nursing school things. All right, should we kick this off?
Let's do it.
Top tips to pass nursing school.
Oh. So first things first, all of this is going to come out of the nursing school study system. If you don't have it, that's totally fine. You can follow along or you can go to nursing schoolofsuccess.com study system and it's there for you to purchase. It's awesome.
It is digital PDF.
Yes.
Download. So you can either print it out on your own, get it professionally printed and bound like we have here, or you can just keep it on your phone, carry around with you or computer or whatnot.
So there you go.
It is up to you.
Okay. I AM on page 11 if anybody is following along. I know a lot of you do, which is super fun, actually. Hey, by the way, if you're a nursing SOS member, please don't buy this because it's in the membership community for you for free.
Oh, yes, yes. And also to let everyone know, our membership community is open.
Yay.
We were able to open it so.
With us last week.
Yes, there were some issues, but it is open. It is open till Friday. So if you're interested in that nursingschoolsuccess.com join.
There you go.
Take a look. All right.
All right. The first tip that I have for you is huge. Because if you don't get this right, you just won't pass nursing school. I mean, that's just that that would.
Bring it to the top level of.
The top tips priorities. Right? So this is your number one priority to work on and it is really your mindset and how you think about failure. Because here's the problem. Here's. Here's what happens in nursing school. And friends, friends, I get emails all the time, students doing this, so please don't be one of them. Please do not do this. If you take an exam and then you don't think that you can pass the next exam, you don't do well on your exam, you don't think you're going to pass the next exam. You think you're going to fail out of nursing school. If you believe that you are not going to pass your next exam or if you believe that you are going to fail out of nursing school, are you going to study? Are you going to focus on studying the things that you need to study for your next exam? And the answer is no, right? You are going to spend an anxiety and stress and overwhelm and confusion and wander around your house baking cookies and cleaning. Who's with me? Raise your hand. Raise your hand if you're one of those like me when you procrastinate, you wander around your house and bake and.
Clean anything to kind of make yourself feel better.
Be real. Those fun like feel productive. Feel productive, Feel productive. But it's not productive in what you should actually be doing, right? So here's the problem. If you feel like you are not going to pass your next exam, you are not going to study for that next exam. And then what's going to happen? It's going to be a self fulfilling prophecy, right? You're going to sabotage your own success because you're not going to study for your next exam, then you're not going to do well in your next exam. That's it. Like Literally, if you don't get this right, if you don't get that right, if you don't catch yourself doing this, you, you're not going to do well on your next exam. And you might end up failing out of nursing school. I mean that's just the reality. Because if you don't study, can't pass. You with me?
Yeah. And we all, like Christina said, raise your hand. Because we've all done this. We've all had that tough feeling and run away from it or feel like I need to soothe myself in some other way. And so, um, instead of confronting things, we, we tend to not do it, or if we think that we're already going to do bad, badly, whichever, what have you, then it, it really does affect how you're going to perform.
Absolutely.
So recognizing it is definitely the first step.
Marjorie. Guilty as charged. Brittany. That's exactly what happened with my last exam because I failed my first one. So I gave up hope. So it happens, man. Crystal and I've been there as well. But you have to push. You have to yourself and believe in yourself. That's the only way. Totally agree. That's the only way. It's the only way. Carrie on Instagram, I study and mess up on the exam. So if you study and then mess up on your exam, what we're talking about here is don't give up. Don't give up. Because if you don't do well on your exam, it can be awfully easy to say, oh well, everyone says the next exam is harder. So what makes me think that I can do better on that next exam when I didn't do well on this one? You know, like, who do I think I am passing, wanting to pass nursing school? You know, that is not where you want to be. You want to. You have to believe that you can pass the next exam. You have to believe that you can pass nursing school. That's the only way to do it.
That is.
That is the only way to do it.
So your, your brain has this funny, funny what have you. I don't know, just block. Yeah, block. It just really wants to stick on something and hold on to it. So yes, if you did worse than you thought you would, or if you failed an exam or whatever, your, your brain just wants to latch onto that and say, well, go down the negative path. Go down that rabbit hole and just don't do that.
Obviously.
Recognize that? Yeah, recognize that and say, well, realize that. Okay, did you do everything you did and just kind of work on your mindset, work through that and realize that being in that negative space does not help you at all.
What about when you have Prof. Is it professor or proof? I don't know which is crystal and on YouTube. What about when you have professors that literally say the class is hard and people always fail this class? That's my current med surge. Okay, professor, Gotcha. Here's the reality, friends, here's the reality. Do people graduate from your nursing school? The answer is yes, which means that you can pass that class. Why do we latch onto the negative? Just like Matthew was saying, oh, there's two people that fail out. Even if half the class fails out, friends, even if half the class fails out, you can be in the other half. You with me? Who's gonna be in the other half that passes? Raise your hand. I hope it's you.
Be that person.
Be that person. But the only way that you can get there is if you believe in yourself. If you believe that you can pass. Because I'm not only taught, I'm not talking like woo woo, belief and it will come true. No, that is absolutely like, I just don't even. I don't believe in that.
No, no, that's not what I am saying. All I need to do is believe. No, no, no, no. It does not stop at the belief. We're going to get to the rest of it.
When you believe something, you have to believe something first and then you will take action from that place. If you believe that you will fail your next exam, you are not going to Study as hard, you are not going to stay as productive, you are not going to stay as focused. You see what I'm saying? But if you believe that you can pass your next exam and you have hope, like Brittany, Brittany, you said you gave up hope. Have hope. If you have hope that you can pass your next exam, that's when you're going to be motivated to study. Focused and productive with studying and actually study. Right. Rather than just spinning in this self sabotage cycle. Right. That's not where you want to be. You don't want to like self sabotage your own success.
That is a self fulfilling prophecy. If you just stick there and it just keeps going and getting worse and worse. That is a self fulfilling prophecy. You have to pull yourself out of it. So.
Yep, absolutely.
Yeah. And it does not stop at that. It does not stop at just the belief and then that's it. Because there is a lot of work.
Work, work. Believe something and then get to work, friends. Yeah, but you have to believe because here's the problem. Like if you really don't think that you're gonna pass the next exam, right. Like you're just gonna procrastinate, you're not gonna study. Right. You're definitely not going to be as focused on studying. Because who has had this ex, who has had this experience? I'm double raising my hand. This is what you know. I'm double raising my hands. When you don't feel like you can pass the next exam, when you're studying for that exam, what are you thinking about? Are you thinking about what you're studying or are you thinking about how stressed you are and how anxious you are and how this is so hard and how you cannot pass the next exam and how the world is wrong and everything's falling apart? Right? Right. It's very, very difficult to study from that place and focus from that place. Make sure that you are focused, productive, efficient, all of those things while you study. All right, Christine needs calm down.
So step number one for the top tips. Get your mindset right, get it right.
All right, all right, all right. That was on page 11 of the nursing study system.
For those just joining, we're going over.
Not in so many words, top tips.
Of how to pass nursing school.
Top, top tips.
That's step number one.
I gotta tell you, that is the biggest thing. If you get that right, if you get that right, friends, then that's, that's gold. Like that's it. That's it. You don't even need anything else. If you are focused. If everyone was like focused and productive while studying. I mean, that's just, that's. Everyone would pass, you know, if you were actually paying attention and not scrolling on Instagram, right?
Oh, that's something else. Yes.
All you Instagram people out there, are you supposed to be studying right now? I feel like we do this every time.
We've done this for a couple times.
Who is supposed to be studying right now? And you should probably jump off, get to it, do that. Okay. Now, critical thinking. You have to be able to connect the dots and critically think. So this is top tip number two. Learn how to critically think in nursing school. So high level overview. Critical thinking has two parts. Planning ahead and connecting the dots. Planning ahead, connecting the dots. It's really that easy. Who here, like, has no idea what critical thinking is, but everyone tells you that you're supposed to know how to do it? Raise your hand. That would be me in nursing school.
Critically think.
What is critical thinking? Planning ahead, connecting the dots. That's it. So on page 17 of the Nursing school study system, if you are following along, which I hope you are, are we walk you through step by step, how to critically think in nursing school. Now, if you don't have this, totally fine. Go to nursingschoolofsuccess.com critical thinking. Nursing schoolofsuccess.com forward slash, critical thinking. You put that in the chat, please.
I can do that.
But if you are on Facebook and Instagram, nursing schoolofsuccess.com forward slash, critical thinking. We have a free critical thinking cheat sheet for you to download that walks you through how to critically think in nursing school. So really, the biggest thing with that is you have to make sure that you don't just stop at memorization. You can't just stop at memorization in nursing school. You have to go beyond that. Because when you sit down for your nursing school exam, they're not going to throw random facts at you and test you on, you know, what's the definition of this? Or what's the definition of that? Like memorization things. Unless you're an amp, that's like a different thing. But like core nursing classes like fundamentals, med surge, all those things. They're going to test you on your critical thinking skills. Case scenario questions, what it takes to.
Be a good nurse, what it takes.
To be a competent nurse. Competent, safe nurse. Yes. So they're going to give you a patient situation, a case scenario question. You are going to have to synthesize that information and choose the most correct answer. The most correct, not the correct one, but the most correct one. So that's where critical thinking skills come in. It does not stop in memorization. You actually have to apply the information that you are learning. Now here's where I see nursing students get stuck a lot. When you are studying, you read the textbook and you read the textbook and you read the textbook, but then you don't give yourself enough time to actually learn it and critically think about it and apply it. That's a problem. Why is that a problem? That's a problem because when you get to your exam, they're not going to test you on random facts from a textbook. They're going to test you on how you critically think and apply the facts from the textbook. Does that make sense? So you have to give yourself time as you're studying, give yourself time to then read the textbook, the sections of the book that your professors talk about in class, and then able to apply it. Give yourself time to apply it critically. Think about it. Are we all cool with that? That was tip number two. Learn how to critically think.
Learn how to critically think.
Download the nursing school critical thinking cheat sheet. So it's nursingschoolofsuccess.com critical thinking. There you go. So download that. It's totally free. Walks you through how to critically think in nursing school. Now let's go on to how to study how to study a textbook. You ready for tip number three? Focus on reading the sections of the book that your professors talk about in class. That's it. Mic drop. I'm out of here. That's it. That's all. Focus on reading the sections of the book that your professors talk about in class. What do you learn in class that is the most important things that your professor thinks that you need to know, which is therefore most likely to show up on your exam. Right. Of course, they might pull out some footnote on page 1326. That'll happen. Like they will throw random things at you periodically on your exams. That's fine. That's totally fine. Move it right along. But for the most part, they are going to test you on the things that you talked about in class because those are the most important things that they believe you need to know. Makes sense.
So backing up, just backing up a little bit with our first tip mindset. This kind of overlaps a little bit because you're studying what your professor goes over in class and then you're taking test and suddenly you see a question that comes totally out of left field that they did not talk about at all. Mindset. You can either Say, oh, okay, that's fine. I did the best I studied. What professors talking about in class, this is what they need to know, want me to know. So this one question, that's fine, I'll just move on. Or you can enter that rabbit hole again and say, oh, no, this question, I don't know it. What if there's other ones? And then you, you psych yourself out and then in the middle of the test, you're suddenly having all these thoughts and then getting overwhelmed and now you're not thinking and focus on the rest of your exam. That is something we do not want. So just be aware that tip number three, definitely study in your textbook what your professors talk about in class, knowing full well that that's the majority of what your tests are going to be in. But there are going to be some ones that come out of nowhere in the test. It always happens and just move right along. Just don't let that bog your mindset down as either. So that's absolutely tip one and tip three, where that kind of comes together a little bit. So get your mindset straight. And when you're studying your textbook, only focus on the things that your professors talk about in class.
Absolutely. And if you are wondering what to study when your professors don't teach you in class, let's see what to do if my professors don't teach. It's number six on page 45 of the nursing school study system. What do I do if my professors do not teach? So if they don't teach you in class, what do you do? We just answered this question. The membership community. I was just talking to some students about this. Have to go through their outlines, their modules, anything that they give you. Even if they don't teach you in class, that's fine. If they're not like up there teaching, they're still giving you modules, they're still giving you. If you get PowerPoints, maybe, maybe not. Whatever they give you.
Objectives.
Objectives. Thank you. Those are the things that you're going to want to help drive what you focus on in your textbook. Yes. Yes, please. Our instructors don't teach. And there's no PowerPoints or videos, only chapter readings. Objectives. There you go. There you go. Yep. Shelly. Shelly has never been with us on YouTube that I can remember. Shelly, are you in the membership community? Tell me, tell me if you're in the membership community, because I'm gonna have a different answer for you if you are. Carrie. Yes. Okay, so if you get a chapter, whatever assigned to you, if your instructor does not teach or is, you know, not giving you any direction at all. You have no idea where to start in the book. That's fine. Look up the whatever chapters, see what topics they cover in that chapter, and then watch the videos in the membership community. Because we synthesize that information for you so you don't have to dig through the textbook looking for answers. You don't have to memorize everything in the textbook like our team. We synthesize it all for you. The most important things that you have to know, that's that. Carrie currently fighting that thought. I just got an I just got a 74 on patho exam and I usually get an A on my exams. I'll do better Thursday. Thursday for the next exam. I needed to hear this. I'm glad it helped, Alicia. It's easy to focus on the negative, but you just have to keep telling yourself, you can do this. You can do this until you believe in it. Absolutely. 100%, Alicia. 100%. Alrighty. When will the membership open up? Right now.
Membership is currently open, Cheryl.
It is open right now.
It is open till Friday, 4 Pacific, whatever the math is.
4:00Pm 7:00pm Eastern.
Yes. Yeah, that so it is open currently. Go to nursing schoolsuccess.com join to go ahead and take a look.
Absolutely. Hey, Tony. Is it Tawny? Tony. Tips for studying at home. I'm so blah. I love that. I'm so blah. That's great. I feel like I'm not really taking the info in. When you're studying at home. Who's studying at home? Can you please raise your hand? Raise your hand if you're studying at home.
Shoot up an emoji for the people.
I must go join. Yes, you must go join. Yes. Cheryl, I'm so excited to have you inside. Yeah. Everyone out there, go join the membership community because I'm telling you right now, it's the best thing. Can I. Is that a cool phrase? Still the best thing since sliced bread. Is that still a cool phrase to use?
When was sliced bread? Really? That's the real question.
I feel like this is the best thing since pillows, you know, because who doesn't love pillows? Come on, what did we do before those things? All right, so when you are sitting at home, it goes back to the mindset, right? It goes back to tip number one. You have to make sure that you are staying focused and productive. If you are sitting in your house studying from home. Right? Sitting in your bed, please don't study in your bed. Okay? Tip number one, don't study in your bed. Don't study in your jam jams. Change your clothes. Jam jam jammies.
Jam jam.
Don't study in your jam jams. Don't study in your bed. Don't study in your jam jams. Get out of bed, put some clothes on and go study or you just won't be as productive. I mean, that's just the thing. What was that John Acuff quote? I don't know. Flannel feels like failure.
Yes.
Johnny Goff. Flannel feels like failure. Yeah. So, you know, put jeans on or something. Scrub pants if you want to do a happy medium. Happy medium between flannies and real pants. Flannel scrubs. They'll come out with that eventually. I'm sure. That sounds like it should be a thing if it's not already a thing. So you just have to stay productive. When you are sitting in your house, your desk, wherever you're studying, you have to make sure that you are in the correct mindset and that you are not spinning in anxiety, confused, overwhelmed. You know, you've got laundry to do, there's dishes to be done. Kids are probably screaming in the living room. Maybe you've got little hands under the door. You know, we've all been there. Moms, you've got to, okay, don't block out your kids. Like, make sure that they're safe.
Right?
But if someone's like watching your kids, then, you know, you have to make sure that you are focused. You've got to block it all out. You got to put blinders on. If you have white noise, if that helps you. White noise can help, you know, whatever. We have a ocean. White noise.
The white noise machine.
Yeah, White noise machine. Is that considered white noise? Like an ocean? Yeah, yeah. I don't know. There's YouTube videos, static. I don't like the static. That's kind of weird to me. Or like a fan, just have a fan running in the background. Back helpful. There you go. I'm feeling bad when I'm not studying. Harpreet, with you there, friends, I have a very hard time not being productive. That's me. I have a very hard time relaxing. So I'm totally with you.
So that's a very different kind of problem.
But I don't. I don't know. I mean, I don't think so. It all goes back to mindset because it's like you have to stay focused, right? You have to stay focused. So, harpreet, if you are not staying focused when you study, then you're not going to be able to Take a day off. That's just it.
That's true.
People ask us all the time, like, how in the world, Christina, did you guys know? If you're new here, maybe you didn't know this. We take every Saturday off. Non negotiable, period, end of story. We will not work on Saturdays. That's it. Period, end of story. So in nursing school, we went into nursing school knowing this. When we say we, I mean me.
But I did not go to nursing school.
We're one person.
Not a nurse. Right here, we're one.
When we went to nursing school, we went in knowing this. No studying on Saturdays. Absolutely not. So what did I have to do? I had to make up for that by increasing my productivity because everyone else had seven days and I have six. So what did I do? Learned how to stay focused. Not, you know, not spin in these thoughts and negativity. When I'm studying, right? When I am studying, I'm studying. When I'm working, I am working. That's how it goes. Anything bad?
Yeah. So back to kind of the core of the question is like tips for studying at home. Kind of gave some rent some tips here and there about just really being focused, getting ready, having a space, having a space for studying that is specific for studying. If you can a little desk in the corner or another room or something that your mindset goes back to mindset again, that your mind will be kind of prepped, that okay, as long as I'm in the space, I am studying. Anything that can ease up that tension and also let other people know that, okay, they're in that spot, they are studying. So don't bug them unless it's something really important. So it's just kind of putting up the barriers in place, mimicking an environment that is more school like or library like that. Okay, in this spot I am going to focus on studying and it just goes back to that. Just focus a lot and practice. It takes practice where unless you've been doing distance ed, which existed before 2020, but those kind of things just take practice. So I personally have never been good at studying distance learning or whatnot. When I was in college, I did not go to nursing school. Not a nurse, right here, not a nurse. But I did get through college eventually. And when I was in college, I did find that out that like distance learning or online classes, not my jam unless I either go to a library or go put. Go in a corner somewhere just at home. When I was at home, I had to like put something aside like a desk away in the side so that I know that, okay, while I'm here, I'm going to study and then when I'm not there, then I'm not going to study. And being okay with that. That kind of, that boundary also gave me the freedom that when I'm not there, I'm not going to study and I'm fine with that. So just those kind of boundaries put in place and practice.
Absolutely, 100%. If you want all the tips for how to stay focused at home, they're on page 53 and 54 of the nursing school studies system. I tell you guys, this has everything you need to pass nursing school. It's kind of crazy. White noise machine is in here. This is a big one. Make sure that you, when you are studying at home on your computer, how often are you studying at home on your. Studying at home on your computer? With Facebook, open Instagram on your phone, you've got some other tabs open. Close out your tabs, man. If you're studying at home, study, it goes back to the mindset and we keep saying, like, make sure that you are staying productive and efficient. If you are staying productive and efficient, boom, we have no problem. Close off the tabs.
That is the goal for this step by step study guide study system that's the goal for the membership community is to get you more efficient at getting through nursing school, at studying. So you don't have to study as long, you don't have to study as much, you don't have to feel lost. You can feel confident about what you're studying and then go about your day doing other things as well. So that's really why we created study system. That's why we created the membership committee community.
Absolutely. So we have two questions up. Kathy on Facebook. Hi, Kathy. Do you have videos for topics such as med surge, pharmacology, maternity? Yes, inside the membership community, we do on YouTube. We also do have some up on YouTube. The videos on YouTube and the nursing as well as membership community are totally different. So in the membership community, we dive deeper in the concepts, we give more examples, there's more video visuals, all those things. And there's just more videos for you in the membership than we have on YouTube. So and then yes, Med surge. Marjorie on YouTube, will your program help with med surge? I have an exam next week. Absolutely, 100%. Med surge is what we do. We do it all fundamentals, maternity, all the things a week from exam, a week from tomorrow. There you go. Perfect. All right.
Nisi. Nisi had a question. I'M having a hard time understanding what the questions are asking me when in a test, but I know the subject. So that's kind of interesting. One kind of going back to studying and studying textbooks and whatnot. Feeling like they have a hard time understanding the questions that are being asked during a test, but feeling that you do know the subject.
Okay, let me hit on one more point and then we'll get to that.
And then any more questions that you guys have regarding studying. Studying how to pass nursing school, shoot them in the comments below. We'll get to those after the top tips of how to pass nursing school.
Moni, so glad to have you in the membership community. Cheryl. Welcome to the membership community over on Instagram. If you guys just joined, please post in the chat. YouTube, Facebook, Instagram. I told Matthew before we jumped on here, hey, should we do member shout outs? And it would probably take us two hours to do member shout outs. I When we opened enrollment, it was Saturday night, like within. I I just don't even know. Like, we have never had this many people join.
Yeah, we're excited to have everyone on, so we'd like to know everyone that's on. And Christina does a. Does a really good job at remembering names.
And there you go.
Not so much handles. Handles can kind of get funky around there. But anyway, give us shout outs down below and we'll shout it to you. Hello, welcome for joining or longtime members. Hello to you guys, too.
Yes, hello, everybody.
Yes, hello, everyone.
Oh, so funny. Harpreet, can you. I am not seeing your actual official question, so can you GNM. I don't know what that means. GNM. So, Harpreet, on YouTube, can you just explain your question? Because I'm actually not. I've been stalking y' all for this opening. That's so funny. Welcome, Cheryl. Happy to have you. All right, so let's jam on Med Search, how to pass Med Search, tips for how to pass Med search. And then we're going to talk about exams and how to take exams. So those are our next two tips. So the first tip for med surg. You guys listen to me, please, please, please listen to this. There are only. And when I say only, I mean it. There are only four things that you need to know for med surge in nursing school. Only four? That's it. Only four. Pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment and nursing interventions. That's what they're going to test you on. That's it. That's what nursing school exams are going to test you on. The NCLEX is going to test you on those four things. Patho, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment and nursing interventions. And it's actually even better than that because they're not necessarily even going to test you on the patho, but we include that because it's the foundation for everything else. You have to understand the pathophysiology before you can understand the next three things. Patho, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment and nursing interventions. When you understand the patho, it is much easier to critically think about the other three categories. So if you guys are in the nursing house membership community, you've noticed in any of our med storage courses, Cardiac, respiratory, renal, gi, endocrine, neuro, all the things in there, you'll notice that our videos are broken down into those four main categories. So for each disorder, you know, hypertension, heart failure, bronchitis, asthma, give me an endocrine one. Dka, you know the, the video series that we have in there over the disorders are broken up into those four main catego categories because that's what you need to know. The physiology, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment and nursing interventions. That's it. We do it for you. There you go. Prima. The monthly is $39 per month or 390 per year on annual subscription.
If you're watching this right now, currently in October 2020. Yes, October 2020.
We can guarantee that in the future it will be $39 per month, which is we do not decrease the price, we only raise the price. So if you want to join, join now.
So 39amonth or three 90 per year. If you want to do the yearly save too much, but there you go.
If you are inside the membership, we will not raise the price on you. Like that's, that's. We don't do that. That would be like so mean. So. No, no, no. Like if you are in the membership community, don't worry, your price is never going to increase. Just joined the membership. Woohoo. Francis, so excited to have you. Thanks for so much for your videos and cheat sheets, friend. Your positivity is awesome. So glad. Sorry, your comments long. Okay, there we go. Feeling overwhelmed by my first semester. And you've greatly helped ease some of that stress. I'm great. Yay. So glad to have you here. Oh that's awesome. That makes me so happy. Love it. Okay, so that is mid search. Fourth key things. That's it. Four key things. That's it, friends. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. If you're in the membership community, like I said we break it up into those four main categories for you, those four main videos, so you don't have to go digging through stuff to find information that you need, like. No, no, no. We break it up for you. Four main categories. We walk you through the critical thinking. Of all of it, it's the best. Join. That's it. All right, now let's talk about test taking. All right. The biggest mistake that I see nursing students make, and this goes back to nisi. I am having a hard time understanding what the question is asking me when I test, but I know the subject. Okay, so you know the subject, but then when you get to your nursing school exam, you kind of get confused, right? Who did. Who else does this happen to? I'm raising my hand. Can you guys, like. Like, raise your hand, Thumbs up. Put up your favorite emoji.
Something like that.
Peace sign. A unicorn. Give me a unicorn emoji. That was my favorite one so far. You know what other emojis are out there in the world? There's a bunch, so. There's a bunch. So put up your favorite emoji. If this has happened to you when you, like, know the stuff, but you get to your exam and you just.
Ugh.
What is that? Shelly? Is that a slice of bread emoji? What is on that paper? Or is that a mug? I don't even know. I can't see this. That's. But I'm super excited about it. Oh, these are so cool. I love these emojis. You guys are the best.
What is that? Is that a. I don't know, light bulb?
Boxing glove?
Boxing glove.
I can't really see from here, to be honest with you. Okay.
Okay, Very cool.
I need. We need to take. I don't know. I just found it. Sweet. Shelly, we need to take, like, a picture of what this looks like because we've got three screens here.
There's a lot.
There's a lot going on, and phones and a camera, and it's like, there's a lot happening, so. And you're also kind of far away, so it's like kind of, you know, trying to read your comments. Sorry about that. So when you are taking nursing school exams, as you guys have said and as you have experienced, it can be very difficult to know what they're asking in the question. So this is where practice comes in handy. So what's really, really important that you do is go through practice. Questions NCLEX style questions before you take your exam. Practice NCLEX style questions before you take your exam. It's not necessarily to help you with the content. It can. Most importantly, what it does is, is rewires your brain. It gets you in that different mindset for how they ask questions. That's what it does. It helps you get comfortable with how nclex style or nursing school style questions are asked and then gets you more comfortable with answering them. That's what it does. Not necessarily to learn the content. We get that question a lot. How do I find Christina? How do I find a test bank that covers the topics we're studying in class? I get that question all the time. And that's not the point. The point is that you practice NCLEX style questions just to get used to how they're worded because they're worded very differently. So just do your best with it. You will fail a lot of them, like almost all of them. And that's okay because you're going to keep getting better. Keep getting better. Keep, keep getting better. Keep getting better. That's it. Now, next tip for this. So what are we on five now? This is tip five. You have to. I don't see nursing students do this. You have to go over your exam with your instructor. So, Niecy, this is for you. If you are confused about what the test is asking you, it sounds like in your question that you have taken a few exams already. You have to go back through your exam with your instructor. At least ask, at least ask about it. Sometimes they won't let you. And that's fine. I've got other tips for you. But the best thing that you can do is ask your instructor and go over your exam with them item by item, question by question. Read the question, figure out why the answer is what it is. Why did you get it right? Or why did you get it wrong? Because that's going to give you really good feedback for your next exam to know how they test, what they're looking for and what you can do better. And I just, I don't see nursing students do this. I don't know why. Yeah, when I was in nursing school, I did this constantly. And I got everyone else to do it too, because I'm like, why does nobody do this? Why does nobody do this?
Because I think I have a theory that it is uncomfortable. It is uncomfortable to face your mistakes.
It just is true.
It is. It's very uncomfortable to face your mistakes, to look at your paper, see the grade you got and say, okay, how to address this? It's very, very uncomfortable. And I get that. And that happens to Me. And that's why I never did it. And that's why it also took like eight plus years to get through college, where it's supposed to take what, like four, something like that? I don't know. It took a better part of a decade to get through nursing or not nursing school. Just normal, just normal college. Just the normal college. So that's all a really long time. And I don't want. And there's. There are better ways. There are better ways to do that.
Better ways. Listen, listen up, friends. Go through your exams.
So, yeah, it's very, very uncomfortable to face your mistakes, but it is helpful. Yep, it is helpful to talk to your professor on multiple levels. One, it helps you feel comfortable with that feeling because that's good, because you, that's where you learn is from your mistakes. So it gets you comfortable with that feeling. It also shows your professor that you want to learn, you want to succeed, and that goes, that goes a long, long way in becoming a great nurse.
And nursing school is not going to take you out, man. Nursing school is not going to take you down.
So reach out. They might say no. They might say no.
Yeah, Crystal, you said we're not allowed to do it at all. I have tips for you, my friend.
Yeah, they might say no, but might as well ask. Might as well see what they say. At least they'll know in the back of their heads, oh, that person is really trying. That person is really studying.
Yep, absolutely. Especially with. Yeah, okay, for sure. So if your instructor does not let you go over your exam afterward, sometimes this happens, especially if you're in a HUSI program or an ati. They might not even have access to it. So if you're not allowed to go over your exam, what you're going to want to do after your exam. List out your entire study system. Hashtag study system. List out your entire study process. What do you do? How do you study? Write it out on a piece of paper, take it to them and say, this is how I'm studying. What do you see that I need to change? What would you do differently if you were taking your class? Ask this to your instructor. So I'm pretending right now you're my instructor. Here's how I am studying. I really, really, really want to be not only successful in your class, but I want to thrive in your class and become the best nurse that I can possibly be. I care about this so deeply. So here is how I have been studying for your exams and I have noticed that I'm not doing as well on the exams, as I would like to. So how would you recommend that I study? How should I change this? Like, here's what I'm doing. How should I change this? And how would you study if you were taking your class? There you go. Like, replay on that. Hit replay on that again.
That is also to get your professor to understand that you are trying, that you are learning, that you want to improve. You want to be a good nursing student and ultimately a nurse. So that goes a long way again.
Yep.
So that's interesting. Francisca. We can't write anything down, but we can do a review after the test. So we have to remember what we missed.
Oh, so you can't, like, go back through your exam with your instructor. Like, they don't have your test with them. So that's kind of a hybrid. Yeah, that's okay.
Yeah, that's fine. You have to remember, can. Can your professor pull up your test afterwards and then kind of reference it now?
Okay, so I'm going to give you a little bit of advice, but it. You need to. Don't take this advice just straight up. You need to disclaimer. You need to check with your school's policy on this. Okay? Please. But I'm gonna. I'm gonna tell you something. But you have to check with your school's policy first. After your exam. After your exam, you can, if your school allows, write down the topics that were covered on that exam. But that might not be allowed at your school. So just make sure that you check. But you'll want to write down, like, the topics that you miss that you know you got wrong, that you got stuck on things like that, so that you can go back and talk to your instructor about it. Like, we're not cheating. Absolutely not. Maintain your integrity, friends. Don't talk about the exam with other students. You know, don't give answers. You know, like, we don't do that here, but you can, depending on your school. For my school, from what I know, this was allowed. We wrote down the topics, but we also were able to go through our exam with our instructors. So, you know, write down the topics, go through your. With your instructor and say, this is where I am getting things wrong. I don't understand this concept. This concept, this concept. Can you please help me understand this? That's it.
So topics. Yes. I just can't write down specific questions. Which makes sense.
For sure. That makes total sense. Yeah. No, don't write out specific questions. That makes total sense. Absolutely.
Okay, so, Francis, you jumped from there to there, which is Facebook to YouTube. Which is cool. Welcome to YouTube.
Welcome to YouTube.
Select all that Apply Questions can be really confusing, especially when they look all look like great answers. But one out of four isn't as great.
Oh yeah. One out of four.
All these tricky. Select all that Apply.
Okay, so here is. What page is that on now? Let me go back through. Here it is in the how to answer nclex questions section. There you go. How to answer select all that apply questions. It's on page 39 of the nursing school study system them. So when you are doing select all that apply questions, you have to maintain them as individual answers. Like on their own merit. Do not combine them together. So if answer number one is you think correct and answer number two basically says the same thing, they can both be correct. Does that make sense? Take them on their individual merit. Don't combine them together. It does not matter. And then answer them as true or false. Woo. Primabella. Thank you. True or false. Big old true or false. You're my favorite friend. I love it. It's awesome. Yep. Here you go. Why is your community only limited in your area? Why is not. It is international Fitness moves the community. The study system is not. The study system is different. The study system is not available internationally. It's only available in the US right now. But the membership, we have students from the membership in like everywhere. Everywhere.
So.
So there you go. Thanks guys. You're welcome.
So also. Yeah, so just think about the. Finish up on the select all that answer. Just think about it as multiple questions and then just answer each each option as a true or false and. And you'll be good.
Just like that. There you go. There you go. Okay, what questions you guys have for me? I know we've had lots coming in.
Let's see what.
Hey, I did good.
Five tips.
Love it.
Brittany was. I forget which one, but mentioned something interesting. She's. Oh, it is in Facebook actually. Let me. Scroll up, scroll up, scroll up.
Hey, and while you're getting that one, can I hit on Brittany on YouTube?
Okay.
Brittany with an eye. I emailed my instructor last week to discuss my exam, but she still hasn't gotten back with me. That's fine. Email again and again and again. I would email like every other day, to be honest with you. Every other day. So if you emailed her last week, if it were me, I probably would have emailed her like three or four times by now.
Be nice.
Be nice.
Be nice.
Be nice.
They have a lot going on too. But yes, be persistent.
But be persistent. Oh good. Be nice, but be persistent.
Ooh, there you go.
There's a phrase for you. I also talk about that in the nursing school study system as well. Friends, I am telling you, if you don't have this thing, I just, I. This is every. This is all the questions you have about nursing school answered. I answer all the questions you have about nursing school.
So here's the deal. This study system is available to everyone to to purchase nursingschoolsuccess.com study system.
There you go.
If you do plan on joining the membership, which is open right now till Friday. If you plan on joining the membership, don't buy the study system because it is available in the membership for free in there. So kind of weigh your options. The membership community is more the premier kind of. We will help walk you through nursing school.
I hold your hand.
And by we I mean Christina because I wouldn't be much help. But that is more of the hand holding walking through. If you want our step by step guide that's condensed into a DIY guide which is.
There you go.
Yep. System, which is really great too. That is the study guide that is or study system. It's available as a downloadable PDF and then you can get it printed however you wish.
So there you go.
There you go. Brittany from Facebook. This is kind of unrelated in your experience how we're clinicals. I personally feel like I know nothing, like I'm imposter and I'm on the floor and I don't feel like I'm getting hands on experience in the skills learned in semester one and two. I've not even had a patient where I've hung IV meds on. So imposter syndrome.
So funny. I just. It's all mindset stuff. Okay, I have a question. I'm going to throw this out here. Would you like Christina me to do more life coachy stuff? Would that be helpful for you?
Because this is definitely life coaching.
Because I feel like the majority of questions we answer on these AMAs is not about nursing school tips. It's not about pathophysiology, it's not about those things. It is about your mindset and how you are approaching nursing school. So if you want Christina to do more life coachy things, tell me in the chat. Put a big old yes down there. We're getting all the yeses. This is awesome. I agree. I think it's great. Of course I'm still gonna do your nursing school stuff, but would you like me to do more life coaching things which I think would be super fun. All Right, Brittany, let's jam on this. The first mindset block I want you to get past. And this is not just Brady. This is everybody. Everybody. If you believe. True story. If you believe that that skills in nursing school is the most important thing to learn, you are wrong. Skills are one of the easiest things that you can learn on the floor as a nurse. Skills is just muscle memory. Skills is just doing a thing. The thing that you need to focus your time on is critical thinking. You know, studying the content so that you can apply it. All those things. So, Brittany, it does not bother me that you are not doing skills on your patients. If you're not hanging an iv, that's fine. But tell me, if you don't get that experience about hanging an iv, can you tell me off the top of your head, this is what you should be thinking? This is what you should be studying. Hey, Charlotte. Good to see you. I was wondering where you were. Sorry. Here's what you should be thinking. If you are not able to hang an IV bag or not able to do a skill not. Let's jam with IV back. If you're not able to hang an IV bag, can you tell me off the top of your head, and you should be able to. What would happen if something goes wrong with that iv? What do you do? What things could go wrong with that iv? If you're hanging blood, what are the steps to hanging blood? These are the things that you need to be going through in your mind, right? This is the critical thinking stuff. These are the nursing interventions. This is the nursing assessment. Okay? So even though you cannot do the actual skill or you're not getting experience doing the actual skill in nursing school at your clinicals, that's fine. But what you need to be challenging yourself with is that critical thinking part about that skill. Okay? What could go wrong? What do you need to do to fix it? What do you need to assess for? What are the signs and symptoms? It's all those things. Four main categories. Pathos, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment, and nursing interventions.
Cool.
Now let's jam on imposter syndrome. So recap on that. If you guys can't do skills in nursing school, I honestly, I mean, that's. I just think it's a huge mindset block because students get into nursing school and they're like, the best thing you think. You think when you get into nursing school, the only thing or the best thing nurses do is give IVs, give medications, and that's the most important thing, and you're wrong. The most important Thing a nurse does is the nursing assessment. That's the most important thing, right? Critical thinking in the nursing assessment, like, that's what you do all day. That's what we do. So you have to make sure that you really get past that. Just get past that. You know, it's okay. It's okay if you don't have clinicals on the floor. Not great, but it's okay. Again, it just goes back to mindset. What are you going to do about it now that that's your situation, what are you going to do now? Let's talk about imposter syndrome. I feel like we all struggle with this at some point or another. Who has struggled with imposter syndrome? Raise your hand.
Yeah, it's.
Raise your hand.
Definitely become a term that everyone knows nowadays, too. I think that that's fairly new. But, yes, the. The idea of imposter syndrome, the idea that I am in a place doing things that I have no right doing, that I have no. I know nothing about, why am I doing this? That I am an imposter, right? I am not really that person that should be doing this. Why am I doing it?
And I also think that in nursing school, another mindset block that we have is everyone gets it except for me. And I know that I had that in nursing school when I, you know, when I was in nursing school, just feeling like, whoa, everyone is understanding or following along, and I'm the only one that doesn't get it. Like, is that you? That was me. So if you feel like, yeah, you have to. You have to feel like you belong there. Fake it till you make crystal love it. So if you feel like everyone else gets it except for you, I can tell you right now you're wrong. Because to be honest, to be honest, when I, like, I had this thought all the time until I graduated and started nursing. So I started the nursing SS membership community. Because the, the emails that I get, like, the sheer number of emails that we get from students that tell me, tell us I'm the only one that doesn't get it. It would stinking blow your mind, friend. Everyone, everyone feels the same way. So you can look around your class and you can think to yourself, I'm the only one that doesn't get it. But you're wrong, because look around your class and everyone is thinking the exact same thing. Just cracks me up. Like, everyone thinks that. Everyone thinks that fitness moves. I bet it's because you're trying to buy the study system and not the membership. If you go to nursing schoolofsuccess.com forward/join. You should be able to purchase. And if you're still having trouble, email us@hello nursingsos.com and be sure to add.
Like your name or that you are fitness moves. Because I'm pretty sure your email's not that. Unless it is.
I want to apply for the membership, but I cannot because it's only. Yeah, so you're trying to buy the study system, not the membership. So go to nursing schoolofsuccess.com forward/join. That's the membership. It's $39 per month or 390 per year. There you go. All right. Right now in October of October 2020.
