How to PASS PHARMACOLOGY in Nursing School

In this 2022 live YouTube session, nurse‑educator Christina Rafano and co‑host Matthew guide nursing students through effective pharmacology study methods while promoting their Nursing School of Success membership. They begin with community introductions, then outline three core study principles: (1) group medications by therapeutic or pharmacologic class, (2) master the mechanism of action for each class, and (3) understand side effects by imagining the drug’s effect when it works “too well.” They demonstrate practical tools such as a medication database, flashcards, color‑coded drug guides, and printable cheat‑sheets, and they showcase a free pharmacology flash‑card box offered to yearly members. Throughout, they field live questions, share peer tips, discuss the distinction between side effects and adverse effects, and emphasize critical‑thinking over rote memorization. The hosts repeatedly invite viewers to join the membership (monthly or annual) for access to courses, study boxes, dose‑calc resources, and a supportive community, and they tease upcoming live topics. The session blends instructional content, promotional messaging, and interactive community building.

Welcome. Happy.
What day is it today?
Happy Monday, everyone.
Start.
Start. Alright. Instagram. On YouTube, on. Everyone on.
I'm still practicing scheduling lives on Instagram.
Welcome everyone and good evening. Welcome to nursing school show.
Yes.
Yes.
Where tonight we are talking about how to pass pharmacology in nursing school.
How to pass pharmacology in nursing school.
So last week when we were live, I think I told you that we were going to talk about FARM this week and nclex questions this week. So today is farm. And then I think on depending on what everyone says on this live, we'll probably ask what topics we want to talk about for Wednesday.
And before we get too far into the mix, we let you guys know last week that the membership is open this week. Meaning that the membership is open right now. Yes, till Friday.
We have had so many of you join. I am so excited. So be sure having a lot of fun in our community group. I am so stoked to check that out and help you. The nursing school.
Yes, indeed. So let us jam on pharmacology.
Hi, Emmy.
Where are you guys joining from, first of all? And what questions do you have about pharmacology and passing pharmacology in the nursing schools? And while you guys do that, I'm doing introductions. That's Christina, she's the nurse. I'm Matthew. I'm the not a nurse.
I'm the not a nurse. I'm the not a nurse. Yes, that, that's.
That just flows off the tongue.
I like it.
Yes. Flows off the tongue. Yep.
That's a good one.
So let us know. South Carolina. All right.
Okay, good.
Yes, we're good.
Yeah.
Everything muted. Everything silenced.
Who remembers last week when my phone rang in the middle of our lives?
Florida. California.
Hello. Florida. Hello. California. California. Do it every time.
Every time.
California. And Texas text. Texas.
Atlanta. I started in August. Hey, congrats.
Hello.
How can I get a head start in farm? That's a great question.
Great question. You're not gonna like my hair, but we'll talk about it in a minute. That's funny. Or you might like it a lot. You decide you. I'll let you decide yourself. Okay, friends, I have just some very important pharmacology principles that we are going to talk about in this video. Okay?
Okay.
So the first thing I want to say is that we have inside the nursing associates membership community, we have an entire medication database for you. We have an entire step by step how to study pharmacology course. So that's inside the membership community for you. If you want me, us, our team to walk you through exactly what you need to know for every single med that you have to learn. Learn in nursing school. Because there's a lot of them. We have all that inside the community for you. So if you are confused about what you need to know for each med, definitely jump inside the nursing assistant membership community because we walk you through all that. We also give you the full step by step process for how to study pharm. So today in this video, we are going to talk about some really important principles that you need to follow when studying pharmacology to really save yourself time.
Okay, Lindsay, you're asking for the best stuff. Study habits for farm. That's what we're talking about right here, right now.
Absolutely. Or any nursing classes. Yeah. So this is really, I think this base principle for FARM will really help you with your other classes as well. So you always. We're always trying to find ways to study in nursing school that are going to save you time. Right. Like you don't want to spend a thousand hours studying. So we want to find ways to. What's the phrase? Study smarter, not harder.
Study smarter, not harder. Yes.
We don't want you studying for a thousand hours a week.
Efficiently. Not.
You don't have.
Deficiently. I don't know.
That'S the word of the day. You. We, we don't want you to study for and like get overwhelmed with all the things you have to study. Right.
Effectively, not defectively. I can keep doing this.
That's better. Yeah, that's a good one. Hi. From dc. Hi, Gabby. Nice to see you again. Angela. South Georgia. Did you say that already?
No, I did not. I did not mention that. Georgia, hello.
Hello everyone. Tell us where you are tuning in from. Tuning.
You know what would be cool? We listen to a podcast and he does this. But I think it would be cool maybe like get like a map or something back here. Oh, and like putting pins on them.
We should like, where are our students?
Where is everyone? Put a map right there and do that.
So we had someone from Honduras a few weeks ago. We have Australia.
Where. Where is our resident Australian? I'm sure they're around Australia. They're around here somewhere.
Canada. We always have usually someone from Canada. Uk.
There you go. Tiffany.
Tiffany, welcome. From Canada. So I'm telling you, I'm pretty sure every single time.
Joyce.
We have so many from Canada. California, a couple people from California, a couple of people from South Carolina. Welcome, friends. Awesome worlds. Are we missing? Well, yeah. Uk, we often have Philippines. We Pretty much always have somebody from Philippines. Dean of the diva. Love it. Hello. From South Florida.
South Florida.
That's.
That's another person from South Florida.
Love it. Okay, so Atlanta, Florida.
Oh, Atlanta.
It's been a while since I've been here. Jamaica.
Janice from Jamaica. I like it.
I love that.
I like it.
I don't think we've ever had anyone from Jamaica before.
No.
That is awesome.
See, that's. That's why we need a map. That's why we need a map right back there. So, yeah, maybe we'll work on that. Let us know if that sounds like fun to you guys.
I think it sounds fun. Okay, now tell me if you are studying farm right now in nursing school and what tactics you are using to study right now.
Raise your hand.
So. Or who has to study medications or who has to study farm right now in nursing school, and what kind of strategies are you using right now to study? Tell me all the things. So while you do that, I will jam on mine. Okay. All right, so study study tips for pharmacology. The biggest thing that you need to be doing is breaking up your medications that you have to study into classes, classes, groups of medications. So this goes back to the whole thing. Study smarter, not harder. We do not want to memorize a whole list of individual medications, because that is not going to be.
There are a lot of medications out there.
There are. For those that don't know and group them into medication class. Okay. So make sure that you are, you know, studying them by medication class and not individual medications, because the medications that all belong into one class will act the same or similar in the body. So breaking them into, grouping them into class will save you a ton of time. Now, Maisie, you say you're studying for head to toe. Yeah. Matthew's gonna put the link there for you. We put it up top, too. But that is there for you for your head to toe assessment. Kind of the same way as the head to toe assessment. Right. How do we learn the head to toe assessment? Well, we learn it by body system. So we learn how to. How to assess. The cardiac system. We learn how to assess, you know, the skin. We learn how to assess, like the neurological assessment. Right. So we break it up into these groups. And in the same way that we do that, this is the same way we do pharm. So break up your medications by class. So, you know, therapeutic or pharmacologic class. I'm going to get my drug guide just because it's nice and easy to see.
This is the drug Guide you actually use going through nursing school. It's a little outdated.
It's a little outdated.
Make sure you get the updated version.
But don't get this version.
Yes.
Yeah, don't get this version.
There's been a couple meds added. Since I am like one or one or two.
There's been a gazillion. So the therapeutic class. So they will be all right, there you go. It'll be like just. It doesn't really matter.
Hold on just a tangent there, Lucy. On Instagram. Sorry, I popped it in. YouTube. On Instagram, if you guys want the. The transcript, the head to toe transcript, go to nursingschoolofsuccess.com transcript. Yep, we'll get you there. It's kind of hard to type with the phone right there.
Yeah, I can't type in Instagram. Sorry. Nursing schoolofsuccess.com forward/, transcript.
Yes.
So when you're looking. Oh, okay. Okay. So Instagram, I'm gonna show you first. Do you see the pharmacologic and the therapeutic class there? Instagram.
Instagram. It's backwards for you.
Oh, sorry, Instagram. So that's what you're looking for. YouTube. I'm coming to you now. Oh, maybe you can't see that. Oh, there you go. There you go. Okay. Oh, oh, oh, sorry. YouTube. Therapeutic Logic. This is not going very good. But that's what I'm talking about. So in your drag aid, that's where you're gonna want to look. Yes. NurseSchoolOfSuccess.com transcript. That's exactly right. Just without the question mark at the end.
I'm sure that was just a question.
Yeah, there you go. Yes, but if someone, like, clicks that link or copies and pastes it, just make sure you delete the question mark and you'll be golden. Transcript. Yes, you spelled it correctly. That IFC Nursing School. Oh, Nursing School of Success dot com. Sorry. Yes. Nursing SchoolofSuccess dot com. Yeah, so there should be an okay in the middle of that. Sorry. Nursing schoolofsuccess.com forward/transcript.
There you go.
Solid. Thanks, Lucy. Yeah, so group your medications by class. Preferably the pharmacologic class. Therapeutic class, though, if you have to. Gabby, you said currently in Farm2. What works for me is using the textbook and ATI practice quizzes to see what I know, then prioritize to the med classes that I don't know. That is perfect. I love that. Yes. So when you are. Obviously when you're studying anything in nursing school. Right. You don't Want to study the same thing again and again and again. And this is a really easy trap to fall into because we like to study the things we already know, right?
That's funny.
Like, we like to focus on the things that we know because it makes us feel good and it's easy, right? So you like to review the notes of things that you already know and you know, you learned it already. But we don't want to be doing that, right? Because we don't want to waste time. We want to focus on studying the things that we don't yet know. So that is perfect, Gabby. I love it.
Oh, Dina, that's great. Took my third pharma exam today. Make sure you know what the medication does and its adverse effects.
Yes, yes, absolutely.
So, yeah, definitely side effects.
Yeah.
Is interesting.
Yeah. You really. Okay. And I have actually a really good tip for you, Dina the diva and all of you guys out there. Nursing schoolofsuccess.com transcript revenue. Yes, thank you, Lucy. That's exactly right. For the head to toe assessment transcript. When you are studying side effects for your medications. So this is tip number two. Okay? When you're studying side effects for medications, think about the side effects as they relate to how the medication acts in the body. So if we give a medication and you, it has its expected effect, but think to yourself, okay, what would happen if this medication worked too well? What if it just went bananas and, you know, just worked way too well in the body, that is oftentimes your side effects. Okay, so let's think for, okay, so there's a couple of medications that most everyone will be familiar with. So metoprolol or a beta blocker, you know, a cardiac medication that is supposed to lower blood pressure. So if you know the intended effect is supposed to lower blood pressure, what do you think some side effects might be? Well, if it's supposed to lower blood pressure, a side effect could be too low of blood pressure. Because we're thinking, right, okay, if the medication works too well, what could happen? Right? So if you look in your drug guide, that's going to be a side effect that you will see. Diuretics is another big one, you know, that most, most people are familiar with. So diuretics, when we give a diuretic, you know, we're trying to offload fluid in the body, but what happens if it works too well? Right? What happens if it works too well? Well, obviously we're gonna have too low of fluid volume, right?
Not fun things. Not fun things happens with diuretics when they work Too well again coming from the non nurse, just saying. But yeah, that's a really good principle is, I mean how it affects the body. So if it affects it too well then that's going to be the side effects. Now Ariel's asking does adverse effects and side effects mean the same thing?
You know I have heard them interchange and you'll hear them interchanged. I think technically they're two different things. Actually someone Google's this for me. Like Google's this. Can you Google it?
Use the Google, use the Googles.
They're often, they're oftentimes like conflated together but I think they are technically two distinct things. Like the adverse effects I think are more like a step above a side effect. But I think like when I, when I hear them I think the same thing. You know, side effects versus versus adverse effects is the same thing. But I think maybe like textbook definition they might have a slight difference.
Everyone else out there, what are your guys's thoughts? Side effects, adverse effects, do they mean the same thing or different? Do the Googles and if different, what's the difference? Yeah, I think it's just like a.
Friend and then you know you obviously have like the life threatening. So like the, like a side effect would be a side effect but then you have like the life threatening ones. Right. So there's like different levels. That's at least how I think about it. But I haven't looked at the textbook definition for a very long time. No, no, there you go.
Yeah, but that's still a really good point is that you do need to know what those, what the medication does and what the adverse effects are.
Yes.
Okay. In my program they definitely differentiate between side and adverse. Okay.
Now would I, would adverse effect be like, would they consider it like the life threatening ones? Because I could see that when I say adverse is more. Exactly. Yeah. So yeah, exactly. Regular side effects like constipation. Yeah, yeah.
Severity, severity of it. Yeah.
Now like the light. So that's kind of like, that's kind of how I think about it and like the three tiers but then you'll see them conflated together. So I guess you could put, I guess if we were going to tier them right, like side effects, adverse effects and then like life threatening, like emergent. Kind of like a life threatening would be like the emergent things. That makes sense. That's how I think about it. But you'll see them conflated together.
Awesome. Just so you know, any more tips and ways that you guys out there study currently for Pharmacology. Any tips to share around and share with the class?
Share with the class.
Share with the class.
Okay, so my next tip that I want to share and sorry, the baby's getting fussy, so I'll make this quick. For studying pharmacology, the most important thing that you can do is study the mechanism of action of the class. Right. So the class of medication, just like we talked about in tip number one, make sure that you are grouping, not breaking, not breaking things up, but like grouping medications together into one medication class so that you are not learning them individually, but you learn them as a group because they will act the same or similar in the body. So when you are focusing on studying that group of medications, focus on the mechanism of action for that group. Does that make sense? So when you're studying that group, focus on learning the mechanism of action, because that is how that group of medications will act in the body. The mechanism of action is how does the medication act in the body? That makes sense.
Okay.
Yep. And then that is where you know, you're gonna see like a lot of the. Exactly what we talked about in tip number two for the side effects. When you think of side effects, you gotta think about the mechanism of action because you have to know what the medication does in order to know, like, okay, well, if it does that too much, you know what's gonna happen. That's gonna be your side effects. Yep.
Study every day, even if it is just a little bit. Yes, definitely. Just stay on top of things. Study a little bit. Eat an elephant one bite at a time. Because otherwise that would just be way too much, I guess is the moral of that story. I don't know why you're eating an elephant, but I guess pharmacology is kind of like that.
Kind of like that.
So, yes, there's definitely a lot of medications out there. So definitely group them by class to kind of group it up. Learn mechanism, action, and bite off a little bit at a time every day. I do like that one. Talking vino. In your community group, you mentioned, you outlined the best way to do that. So we have a whole medication database for you. And they are grouped by the classes by. By the disorder, by this.
Sorry, not by the body system.
Yeah, by the best way to. To study them. So, yeah, yeah, we do help you along with that.
Yeah, we have them grouped by body system, not by class, inside the community. Because when you focus on studying your medications, you will need to group them. You will take whatever he has opinions on pharmacology, apparently. So Whatever medications that you are learning in your school, you will go through the medication database and, you know, just find the medication that you need and then you'll pull the class from it. So we'll tell you the class and then that's how you'll group them together is by class. Does that make sense? And then in the.
Yeah, go ahead.
You're probably going to say this, but in the community we have the whole step by step guide for how to study for farm. So all the steps are there for you. Yeah, yeah.
And Savage, I think that is on Instagram. I'm definitely joining. So FYI to everyone on right now, the membership is currently open for this week only until Friday. So if you're thinking about joining, go ahead. Nursing schoolofsuccess.com join. Check it out. Little pro tip, since we are talking about pharmacology, if you get the yearly membership here, we do give you a free nursing school box. And we have a pharmacology box that has the cards all written out, all the med cards for you. Christina is probably gonna go grab those. So that's a little pro tip. If you're really struggling with pharmacology, that is the best way to study is join the membership, join yearly and then you get the box for free. So there you go.
Here's a box.
Here's a box. Down there, down there.
So. Oh my. This is a messy demo box.
Okay, here we go. There we go.
I use it on the lives all the time, but I think they fell. Oh, do they fall? Here are the flashcards. There's a bunch of them. This is like a tenth of it.
There you go. So again, when we're talking about meds, we're talking about a lot of meds.
Yeah, there's a lot of meds for you to know in nursing school. And so when you. Yeah, like Matthew said, if you wanted to buy the annual membership, you can choose a nursing school box and we will send it to you for free if you buy this week. F R E E. F R E E. How do we join?
Just go to nursing schoolofsuccess.com join.
Yep. And then what you'll do is you'll fill out a form. If you join the annual, I'll email you a form to fill out and you can choose what box you want. So we have. So this one's just the dose or, sorry, the pharmacology box. The other box we have is a dose calc box. And so you choose which one you want and I will send it to you for free. So they look like this. These are the med cards. They're broken up by, you know, body system and, you know, you have all.
That and the classes in there too.
Over 120 of them in here and they're awesome. Plus you'll also get some other cool things that are in the box.
So, Natasha, do you have a tip sheet for pharmacology? We have a pharmacology box, yeah.
And in the, in the community, in the membership community, we have cheat sheets and stuff for pharm too inside our cheat sheet database. So, yeah, actually that's another thing that we don't often talk about is inside the membership community, we actually have a whole. When you log into your dashboard, you'll see an actual like course of cheat sheets and there's a ton of cheat sheets in there. So we have some farm cheat sheets in there too. Cool.
Glorina just finished my reproductive system and I will be on maternal and newborn nursing on March 19th. Congratulations. That is awesome. Any advice? Join the membership because we have courses on those as well.
Yes. Yeah. Maternal and newborn and know your potential Pitocin dosing. We have a whole, we have a couple of videos on that actually. In the community. Do not learn it how your instructor teaches it, please. Like, do not learn it how your school teaches it. For Pitocin. It will be a really big struggle for you, I promise. So join the membership and we teach it. So like I've just heard this from so many students. Like, we just teach it so much better and it's just so lot easier. So Ptocin, know your medications for ob, right? Like pharm, I mean, know your medications right for any class that you're taking. And then also we'll talk about this. I think maybe we'll talk about this on Wednesday as med surge and disorders, like how to learn disorders. Because for maternity, there's a lot of disorders that can happen too with either the maternal side or the newborn side. So you need to know those, those in those classes as well. So yeah, there you go.
Very cool.
So the Nursing Essence membership community, a lot of people are asking on Instagram, at least I don't know if they've asked on YouTube, but it is $39 per month or 390 per year. So you can either choose the month or the year. If you want to pay for the year, we are going to send you a free nursing school box. So sign up and I'll email you a form to fill out to choose your box. Either the pharmacology one or the dose calc box. We also have a dose calc box.
Oh, yes, the dose calc boxes.
So you can handy too, if you.
Need help with those. Calc.
Yeah, you can decide which one you want and I'll send it. Well, when I say I'll send it, he's the one that takes them to the post office.
I actually do take it to the post office. So I'm doing a trip tomorrow.
To the post office. Yes. Okay. Yes, again. There you go.
Brooke from Philippines. Here. I know that place.
Are you perhaps from that place?
I am from that area, although I was not born there, so. Yeah. But I've been there twice.
Cool place twice.
I have been there once when Mount Pinatubo blew up. So that was fun. Yeah. So, all right. Studying pharmacology is really hard for me. Yes. Yeah.
That's why we try to make it easier.
Yeah. Hopefully this helps.
Yep, yep, yep.
See, Valerie just downloaded your study cheat sheet. Got my first nursing fundamentals exam on Wednesday.
We have a whole fundamentals course. Okay, you guys, who is in fundamentals? Who is in med surg. Who is in ob, pediatrics, mental health. Tell me all the things. Where are you at? Where are you at? So in fundamentals, we. We have a whole fundamentals course. We have all the videos you are going to need for med surg. My. So awesome. So definitely check it out. It's going to help you so much. How to focus. What did you say? Mike, Mike.
Oh, yeah.
Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike. Hi.
What do you exactly study in pharm? Do I just focus on drugs and drug classes? Rug classes. Drug class. I'm assuming. I'm assuming drug class and not the class of your rug.
So I can't help you with that. Know nothing about.
Yeah. So we were just talking about that. Yeah. Definitely group them by drug. By classes.
Yes.
To simplify some of the memorization and then focus on Mechanism action.
Yes. 100%.
Yes.
Yep. And then our tip number two for tonight was to. So, Mike, Mike, you're going to want to go back and just watch the replay. Okay. We're just gonna recap here for you. The. When you're studying side effects, you want to think about them as thinking about what would happen if the medication worked too well in the body. Okay. And then that will be oftentimes a lot of your side effects. Yep. Beginning nursing school classes this fall. Yay. Okay. If you were going to start nursing school or you're not quite there yet, you'll want to make sure to join the membership community three months ahead of time because there are a few classes, courses that we have for you that you're going to want to go through before you start that are going to give you a huge head start and you are going to thank me later for that tip. Nursing care of older adults in the beginning. Oh, beginning. Yeah. Fundamentals. April 18th. Okay. Get in the membership community now. If you are starting in April or May.
What?
Or April. May or June. Because what month is it?
It's March right now.
It's March right now.
March.
All three months ahead of time. And I will walk you through what you need to know for when you start. Okay. You are. I'm telling you right now, like, you will thank me later. I promise you. You are going to be so much less overwhelmed when you start nursing school if you jump into the community now.
Coupon carry. How about if you just want to get the box? You can definitely just get the boxes on their own. They're at nursing sos.com/shop if you want to take a look at them.
You might be a little confused because earlier we were saying a different URL. We actually have two website sites because we're cool like that.
Yeah.
So we like double the work if.
You want to take a look at that. How much? I think. I think the farm box is 129.
I have no idea. But it's double.
Check me on that and let us know.
Nursingsos.com forward/shop. Yes, for the nursing school box. But if you want to join the community. Nursing schoolofsuccess.com forward/join. I know that's a little confusing, but.
Just to keep you on your toes.
To keep you on your toes.
Mike. Mike. Oui, mon ami. Nice.
What is it?
What you just said.
Oh, okay.
That. I. I do not speak that.
Joining asv. The way our instructors are talking, we're going to stress, be stressed and depressed. Oh, that's sad. I know when you go to nursing school, school it. Everyone's telling you that you're going to be stressed and depressed and. No, that's not how we do it around here in our community.
Have a positive mindset. That's someone's motto.
Erica, is the workbook for dose calc available on the website? That is a fantastic question. It's inside our dose calc box. So we actually have. So it's in our dose calc box. But then also as a nursing SOS member, if you're a member, you get a ton of practice. Like over a hundred Practice problems inside the community.
Yeah. So those are different than in the dose count.
So they're different than in the dose count box. I would honestly join the community because then you will get all of the videos and everything that go along with the workbooks. Because in the community we have what, 12 or 13 or 14 even like workbooks, like practice books for you. So check it out. It's gonna be really good. Oh yeah. Farm box 128.
Young Robert Downey. New year.
I like it.
Hi, Iron man.
That's funny.
Very cool.
Yep. Dos calcus.
So let's see where is in Gabby's in Farm at Sergio B. I'm in second semester. Hey, there's our Australian. Hi, I was waiting for you to join. Just started to. Okay, upgrade. Upgrade from LPN to rn. Awesome. Getting back into it second year.
Yes, yes, yes. Just sent to your website and got an annual membership.
Yay.
Really exciting. So yeah. So I'm gonna email you a form to fill out. Okay. So when you get the annual membership, I will email you the form. Fill it out for me, please put your address, like put your shipping address there so we know where to ship it to.
Yes.
And choose your box. So either the pharmacology box or the dose calc box. Yeah. I'm so like, it's crazy. I am so excited, like how many people we've had joining. It's incredible. I'm just so excited to get to know you guys.
Lorena was born and raised in the Philippines too.
Woohoo.
Sorry, I just skipped right over your questions and just off Philippines. But yeah, thank you. And do you have videos for maternal and newborn nursing? Yes, in the membership we do.
What's the question?
Do you have videos for maternal and newborn nursing?
Yes, absolutely.
For me to watch.
Can I say about the pediatrics course, which I was going to say. Okay, we just released. We're starting to release. So we just. But you posted cardiac.
I posted cardiac and respiratory Pediatric for pediatrics.
So yes, we're right now releasing our pediatrics course. So, so excited for that. So if you are in peds, definitely jump in there. It's going to be so helpful for you. Honestly, you guys, I just. We teach nursing in a very different way than you will hear in your class. What? We. We literally break it down for you step by step. So inside the membership community, we break these concepts down in a way that you can actually understand them. And I don't understand why a lot of nursing schools don't do that, but that's how we Teach in the membership community. So, I mean, just go on my Instagram, Okay. Like, go on my Instagram and check out, like, my stories. I think I posted some testimonial stories today. I also have a highlight thing for testimonials. Like, read what our students are saying about it. Because what they tell us over and over and over again is that you teach this better than my instructions instructor. Like, I was lost. I almost failed out. Or a lot of students say they did fail out before they joined and then they joined and now they're, like, acing their classes. They're passing their classes with flying colors because we just teach it in such a different way where you can actually understand it. What a concept. Right? So definitely jump in. It's going to help you so, so much. If you're struggling in nursing school at all, definitely join. Definitely join. So you can go to nursing schoolofsuccess.com forward/join and find all the details there. And the link to join is right there. Yeah. Nursingschoolofsuccess.com forward/join.
Yep.
It's also in my bio on Instagram too.
So, yeah. Mary, Mary Beth. Mary Beth, how do you join the community? So I just put. Yeah, that's the link. And it is either monthly or yearly. If you join the. Yearly, we'll toss in a nursing school box.
Yep. So we'll send it to you for.
There you go. What's included? Yeah, just a lot.
A lot.
There's a lot. I know that the title of this video is how to Pass Pharmacology, but that is just this tiny little slice of what's in the membership. And kind of took a hard right turn and started talking about that. But yeah, yeah.
So people kept asking about it.
Definitely go to that link. Take a look. See everything that's in there. There is a lot.
And we have fundamentals course, med, surg, critical care, ob, Pediatrics, now mental health. I mean, all the courses that you're gonna take in nursing school, we teach them to you. The whole medication database, like, we've got a whole cheat sheet database, We've got study guides. All of that. Pretty great.
Pretty cool.
Going to help you so, so much pharmacology. Oh, yes. Here's what I wanted to say about that. Okay. Thank you for pointing me to the drug guide. A lot of students ask me, how do I tab the drug guide. So this actually is my not really fancy way of tabbing a drug guide.
This is what you actually did in nursing school, because this is the one.
That you Use what I used in nursing school. So if you can see Instagram, look on there. I don't know, it's just, it's just these little like post it note flags. I don't know YouTube, can you see that too? The post it note flags? You probably can't really see the. My words. But it's just the medication name and know the colors don't mean anything.
Although again, fun, fancy things that people talk about in our membership community. They were saying that they started doing this like Christina, but they up leveled it and then they actually did color code it by class.
Yeah.
So which is, which is really cool.
And that's way cooler than.
Yeah, fun little things that again, the, the community just kind of chimes in and improves on. So. And that's the other thing that's really cool about the membership. It is really a community as well. So kind of like this, you guys are talking, giving you guys your. Your 2 cents and definitely helping each other out. That's basically how the community is.
So. Yeah, exactly how we do. Oh, this is another thing I wanted to mention. Okay, so if you join. Well, we've got a lot of you guys who are either members. Yay. Or like members already. Or you just joined. Like Issa, you just joined talking Venom. You joined, didn't you? Or did I miss the name? I think I did it right. Yeah. Talking to me. Okay. Several of you did actually on YouTube. So if you are a member, if you want to be part of something exciting, special and new, please. How do I do it? Okay, please email me. I'm collecting, I'm collecting students to help me test some new features that we have coming for the membership community.
We're nursing SOS on Instagram.
I can't say yes, I can't say much else about that right now, but if you are interested in helping me test some new features for the site, please email me. Okay, so when you joined, I. You should have gotten some automated emails and then, you know, reply back to one of them and tell me that you want to be part of testing out some new features and let's do it.
Be the beta testers. Be the guinea pigs.
Be the guinea pigs. Yeah. So when you join, you'll get some emails from me. Just reply back to, to one of those emails. Okay. All right. I'm excited. We. Okay, like I think we said this last week, like, if you wanted to join the membership community, this is the time. Like, this is the time because we have so many exciting things coming that we cannot tell you. Totally about yet, but we will be telling our members in the coming weeks. There you go.
It's crazy and exciting.
We have very exciting things coming.
So. Yeah, this was very exciting things. Yeah. So these just are your. Your meds?
Yes, these are just the meds.
All right.
Yeah, that's all I wanted to say about that, but I get questions about it all the time, so I figured I would mention it. The drug. The flags are just like the medication name. And then you can group the colors by class if you want. But I didn't because I'm not that fancy.
But definitely if you're doing it, that would be a good way to do it.
Good. Way to go.
While we're at it, do you want to talk about what this is and whether you recommend Davis a drug guide or.
Oh, I do. Yeah. I think this is the best one.
So I'm not sure. Do you. Have you guys used this or what med guides are you using?
This is usually required. Required for school. I guess I just assume that everyone has this. Is this required for your class? Because this is required to mine. Yep. Yep. Is this required for you? I have to test out on videos.
Gloria. Hooray.
Hi, Glorina. Yay. Welcome to the membership community. Hey, you know what we didn't do this time is member shoutouts. And I was.
We did not doing that. We did not. Wednesday. We can do that Wednesday.
Okay. There will be.
There will be a lot.
I'm not gonna say over 100 names on.
That's all right. We'll figure it out. We'll figure it out. We'll shout you guys out.
Not gonna say a few hundred names on. On one. Wednesday's live. Okay, well, try. Welcome to all the members who have joined. However, Maisie, what I wanted to say about that, the head to toe assessment actually inside the membership community. And I believe it's inside our fundamentals course and probably inside our cheat sheet database as well. I think it's probably in those two places. We have a whole head to toe assessment like workbook for you that you will absolutely want to print out. So. So if you are taking your skills test on the head to toe assessment. Absolutely. Get into that fundamentals course and download this PDF because that is your head to toe assessment skills.
And that's in addition to the transcript.
That's in addition to the transcript. Yeah. Those are two different things.
Yeah.
So, so members get the full, like, head to toe workbook, basically. And then, yeah, the. The cheat sheet is the transcript. So. Okay.
Yeah, so there is a workbook for that there's no video.
We have like walking through and. No, no, no, we don't have the skills video on it, but we have that, that like workbook thing. Yeah, Gotta love the, the head to toe because that is really. Skills are kind of funny too, because what you're gonna want to do. Who was that that says. Was it Maisie?
Who said what?
Oh, head to toe assessment. Yeah, it is Maisie. Okay. Hi, Maisie. Sorry, I just missed your name there. I saw the question. But so when you are doing your skills, when your head to toe assessment check off, you're going to want to take that workbook and practice it like your school teaches. Because the thing with skills and skills checkoffs is that it's not the same for every school. I wish it was, but that's not the case.
Case.
So you know how your school test might be different from how someone else's school test, which is different from how someone else's. So you know, your instructors are looking for different things. It's not going to be exactly the same school to school. There's no like set skills standard. There should be, and it's going to be roughly the same, but it's not going to be identical. Your school is going to want to. Want you to do it in a different way than other schools. So when you get that head to toe assessment workbook, make sure that you adapt it to your school. Okay. That's why that. Yeah, that's really the hard thing about watching skills videos online or something like that is because your school might test you differently and you can't. You, you have to be very careful when you're learning off of a skills video because if your instructor is, you know, nitpicky about certain things, you have to make sure that you do those certain things the way your school wants you to, not how a video did it. Does that make sense? So make sure you adapt it to your school. I hope that helps.
I hope that helps too.
I know a lot of you guys joined. I'm super, super excited. April. April, my sweet friend, are you inside the membership community? Because I got to tell you, no one teaches fluid and electrolytes like we do. And I actually think one of our students, I think this was just a few weeks ago, she messaged us and said, like, this was the best. Like this. The fluid and electrolyte course we have inside the community is the best. It is the best. Like, we just teach it so much differently than your school. Well, we really focus on critical thinking. We focus on how Things connect together. It's really just going to help you a lot. So check it out. Electrolyte imbalances, fluid and electrolytes. Check out the fluid and electrolytes course inside the community because it's going to help you a lot.
Yep.
We got it all in there for you. Don't you even worry, my sweet friend. Don't you even worry. Yep. All right, you guys, um, he's kind of looking funny. We've got. I know we've got a baby awake. He's staring.
He's staring at a baby away.
So I'm trying to bounce him to sleep.
How to pass pharmacology in nursing school. Definitely focus on. Yeah, just high level one more time.
Focus. Oh, you want me to do on it. You just, just real quick focus on breaking things down into the pharmacological, the therapeutic class. So you have to under. You have to know the medication class for the medications that you're studying. Group them by class and study them by class. Don't learn them all individually. Okay. And then a mechanism of action. Make sure that you know the mechanism of action for the class. And then also the second tip that we talked about was side effects. So make sure that when you are learning side effects that you think of them as if what would happen if the medication works too well. Okay? So make sure to go back and watch the, the, the live video when we are diving into those three things because that will really, really help you. Yeah. Is that a fist bump? Fist bump. Maisie, Dan. Love it.
Stanley, Asha. Stanley, Asha. Do you guys do NCLEX review? My nclexes in three weeks. Wow, awesome. Need help with farm classifications?
It's funny because. No, we don't. Like, we don't have a particular nclex review. Whatever. Like, we don't. We don't say that it's an NCLEX review. But we've had so many students, like so many members say that they used it for nclex review and then they pass it Onclex. So, you know, because the content's the same, right. For nclex, all you're doing is learning the content and applying it. Right? So all of our videos inside the community, we focus on critical thinking. That's what we, that's what we do. You know, we focus on how do these concepts come together? You know, what is the why behind things? Like when you're. When we teach you a med surgical disorder, we don't just give you a list of signs and symptoms to learn and memorize. Like, that's not what nursing school is. Right? No. So we walk you through. Okay, why do these signs and symptoms happen? Like how do they relate to the pathophysiology? Right. So when you're learning, it's the same thing with the side effects for a medication. Like how does it connect to the mechanism of action? So these are the things we walk you through inside the membership community. So if you are in a concept based nursing program, if you, you know, if, which all of us do, like all of our nursing schools test us on critical thinking. Right. So you're always going to be tested on critical thinking. The membership is absolutely going to help you so, so much. Because, you know, there's a lot of. There's a lot of programs out there. There's a lot of like, you know, your textbooks, everything. They're going to give you lists of things to memorize and it's just not helpful. So that's not how we teach. We in the videos that we teach inside the community, we bring it all together for you. We walk you through the why behind it all. We help you connect the concepts of together.
Hi, James, Irina, welcome. I've looked at the Davis guide. I wish they had. They did an Australian version. Guess there's no Australian version of Davis's drug guide. Oh, it's better than a lot. Than a lot of the ones that you guys have. Sorry about that in Australia.
I'm sorry.
Yeah.
Drew. Drew. You guys pulled me through nursing school. Yes. Yes. It's just, it's gonna help so much for the nclex, honestly. Yeah. To learn the information. Totally, totally, totally.
Marina, if you went to nursingschool success.com join and join the membership, then yes, you are a member.
