Oh, go live.
Live, live.
Hello.
Hello everyone.
Instagram and YouTube.
Welcome.
Where do I put all my things?
Oh, we have lots of things on this table. As you can see things are changing. Things are, things are evolving up in here. How's it going everyone? Hope everyone's doing good. I am Matthew.
I'm Christina.
Welcome to the nursing school show where we help you through nursing school.
Yes.
NCLEX test taking strategies.
This is part two.
Part two, Part two.
We ran out of time last week.
Yes. So if you haven't a lot of questions go back to our other live I think last week, right. That talked about the new nclex. All fun fancy things about that.
Yes.
And do that later. Stay on our live now and discuss with us NCLEX test taking tips right now.
Yes. I have a lot of things to go through. So last week on the live we talked about the new NCLEX and the NGN next generation. It sounds so fancy. I like NGM nclex. So we talked about that kind of the types of questions that you will see see on the NCLEX coming in 2023. So who is taking the current NCLEX? Who is taking the new NCLEX? Raise your hand. Tell me all the things, where are you?
Tell Christina all of the things.
Tell me all the things, where are you at?
And while you're doing that, just a couple things. While we are live we have our study system that you can get $10 off on while we are live. Use code live nursing school of success.com study system. Yeah.
Yes.
All right.
That's correct.
Awesome.
So okay, I've got a ton of. Well actually let me just show you. I've got a ton of NCLEX test taking strategies. So if you are in, if you have taken a nursing school exam, you know that the, you know that nursing exams test you very differently than any other exams you took before. Like an EMP or what have you.
I would not know.
I am not a nurse psychology, anything like that. The NCLEX and NCLEX style questions are going to really test your critical thinking. So you really have to be able to synthesize the information and think about it in a way where you're actually applying it to whatever you are learning. So it's not like in nursing school we can just memorize a list of signs and symptoms. Right. Like when was the last time you were tested on how well you memorize things? Like not right. Probably in anatomy and physiology. Right. Like anatomy and physiology is a lot of memorization like just rote memorization, straight up flashcards, you gotta memorize this. Whereas nursing school is. Okay, well now that we've memorized that, like, now that we know that information, now how do we apply that information to a real life patient situation? So that's where we get into what, you know, what we call nclex style questions. Nclex questions where you are given a patient scenario or a case study, you know, case study question where you have all this information thrown at you in this like paragraph, right. Or small paragraph, long paragraph, whatever you know, they're giving you. And then you have to choose the answers, you know, correctly, hopefully. So that is, that is really the biggest probably leap to like, to jump from going from pre nursing to nursing school is really that critical thinking leap now. So we talked a lot about that last week on our live about the NGN. This, this new NCLEX that's coming in 2023. So NGN. I still like that acronym, NGN. Okay, I'm going up. Okay. 2022 S. I M RN spring 2023.
So 2023 is on YouTube. Yeah, definitely some people that will be using the NGN.
Kristen. NGN. You've got this, Kristen. I can't even pass my current math class, so who knows when I'll write ten years from now. No, it'll be way sooner than that. Don't worry. Okay, I'm sorry. A, I can't really read from way over here. And B, there's a lot of like S's 23 for your practical nursing. Sarah. 2023. So a lot of you guys are actually.
2023. Yeah, a lot of you guys on YouTube too are December 2023. CSI. Hey, how's it going? Yeah, so this is really a good topic to go through. So again, our previous live last week discussed the differences with the NGN and what has changed and what has stayed the same as well. Right?
Yep.
Yeah, yeah.
So we talked about that last week. Hey, Seesaw, thank you for your Instagram dm. I really appreciated that. Like, seriously, thank you so much, Leticia. Yeah, 2023 LPN. Okay, so a lot of you guys are actually Pratt going like LPN or PN programs. Practical nursing. Exciting. Current version. Okay. We got a lot of comments on Instagram, so thanks you guys.
Instagram.
Hi, Instagram.
December 2022. God willing. Awesome.
Wavy. Wavy by 2023. All right, so YouTube's a little bit easier because it's just your names. Hi, Dana. Okay, so are you. Hello. All right, so when we think of, you know, taking nursing School exams, Right. Doing a, taking a nursing school exam can be very overwhelming.
Right.
There is a lot of information that you need to know and thankfully though, a lot of nursing students don't know this, but after this live video you will. Thankfully there are a lot of strategies that we can use to. To kind of reverse. Reverse engineer is not the right phrase but to kind of like hack nursing type questions, like nursing style questions. There are very particular ways that the NCLEX is written that NCLEX questions are written and when we know how they are written, we can kind of figure out like kind of backtrack and figure out, okay, now that we know how they're structured now how can we answer them? Because there's a pattern. Once you notice the pattern with how the questions are written, there are some very specific strategies that you can use to get the answer right, even if you don't know exactly what that right answer is. Okay, you ready to learn this? Ready to learn this?
Some fun stuff. Go ahead and hit a like stuff. Hit a follow.
So some of these things that I'm going to talk about are things that maybe you've heard before from like there are some like nursing textbooks like the Saunders. Right. The Saunders book has a few NCLEX strategies in it. But a lot of these that I am going to talk talk about are things that I have just noticed over the years with answering so many NCLEX questions questions and they have been really helpful. It's kind of crazy. So let's go through it. Kristen, will this be posted somewhere if I miss something? So this live will be up on YouTube. Hopefully we can post it on Instagram but sometimes that gets a little tech glitchy. I'm not a huge fan of Instagram because of that. So if you go to YouTube at nursing sos or YouTube.com forward/nocking sos it will be the recording for this life will be up on our YouTube channel. So and thank you by the way for 94, 000 subscribers. We just crossed, I think yesterday.
Wow, I did not even know that.
So congrats to thank you guys. Not to me, you guys. So thankful for all of you guys for being here and for making all this happen.
And if you haven't yet, go ahead and hit subscribe and hit the bell.
Yes.
So that you can follow us on our journey and also join us for more lives.
Yes, absolutely. So we can help you out. We are here to help you pass nursing school. So here we go. Who likes my sweater mug by the way? I just think Sweater mugs are the best of the sweater mug. So the. Really the. For. Okay, really, the first thing that we have to say about answering nclex questions is you have to read the entire thing. It sounds simple. However, it's not. How many of you. Okay, like, send up a heart on YouTube. Can you please hit that like button? If you have had this experience. Okay. If you have gotten to a nursing school question, you're taking your nursing school exam. If you've gotten to a question and you think you know what it's asking you, and then you get to the answers and you're like, wait, this doesn't make sense. Or you answer it because you think you know what it's asking you, and then you get it wrong. And then you look back and you're like, oh, facepalm. Because you didn't read the question right. Okay, so hit that like button on YouTube, send up some hearts, post in the comments, whatever. I want to know. Asking for a friend. I cannot be the only one. That asking for a friend phrase. I'm not using it. Right. Is it like that phrase, asking for a friend? No, it's like, for you, right? Yeah, it's like asking for.
For you. And you don't want to let them know that it's for you. So asking for a friend.
See, everyone's asking for a friend right now. Asking for a friend. Hi, Emily, Good to see you.
Christian Lee. Hello. From the Philippines.
There you go. Just. Yeah, same. Leticia me all the time. Sarah, you don't know my life. Okay. Sorry, my feet are. My feet are falling asleep. Okay, we both sat down, so this is a little weird now. Gabby's story of my life. Amen to that, my friend.
Yes.
So you just. You have to make sure that you are reading the entire question or you will miss something. Now, side note, this goes for every question that you answer, including dose calc, especially doscalc, make sure you read your dose calc questions like three times before you answer them. Okay, so nclex questions, you have to understand what the question is really asking you for. So, for example, there will be, you know, at the end of your case scenario that they give you, when you're answering a test question, they will say they will give you all this information in the paragraph, right? Like the case scenario or the case study. And then you'll get this little one liner right at the bottom that says, like, what would your initial action be? What would your first action be? Or it could be how, like a patient education one like this. If the Patient says this, that indicates understanding. Or if the patient says this, that indicates they need further teaching or what would indicate the patient needs further teaching. Something like that. So there's different things that they can ask you about the same case scenario question. So you really have to make sure that you are reading the full thing so you know what the question is actually asking. Asking. Right. Because it can be kind of tricky. So also, like, select all the apply questions. Right. All right. Is it. Is it like a positive? Is it like a positive or a negative? Like, would you. Like, what would you do? Or what would you not do?
I was just gonna ask you that because I was curious if they ever asked those kind of negative. Like, all right. Select all that you would not do.
Yes.
And I feel like that would throw a lot of people off because they throw the right answer in there along with all this other stuff that you should not do. And depending on how they phrase a question, you can answer the right one or all the things you're not supposed to do.
Exactly. And okay, so this is a great example. Who was on our Live last week when we were talking about the new nclex? Who was on there? And do you remember this? We were talking about that exact example. There was a case study that. So this is. We were going through the types of test questions that are put out by the NCSBN for the new nclex. So they gave a case scenario, and then it had this list. It was like a Select all that apply. But the select all that apply was what interventions would be contraindicated? Not what interventions would you do? The question was, what interventions would be contraindicated for this patient, AKA what interventions would you not do? Does that make sense? So you really have to make sure that you're not only reading the case study, you're not only reading about that patient scenario, but you're also reading and, like, really absorbing and thinking about. Okay, what are they actually asking me for? Because it's tricky, man. Can we just get some emojis of. Can you just send up the emoji that best fits how you feel about select all that apply questions?
And if you can't find that, grab a unicorn and pop that up there.
The unicorn is always a fan favorite, that's for sure.
Or I was going through it the other day. I also like the ninja one.
So there's a ninja one.
Yeah. Yeah. So throw up some emojis. Your favorite one. Something that represents what you think about.
Huh.
Are examples or.
Or ninja is that. It's like, it's like, I don't know what you call it, but, like, these are fun emojis. I like it.
Dlb. Definitely not jumping to conclusions. Yes. Not jumping to conclusions. Reading the whole question instead of reading like the first three words and says, oh, yeah, I know what they need. I know what they want.
And like, dose calc too, can be really tough. So you'll get those questions dose calc questions on the nclex as well. And you could be solving for grams when they're asking you for milligrams. Don't do that. So make sure that you know, I love these emojis. You guys are so fun. Instagram, you're hilarious. Yes, I love, like, the mind blown. Yes, I totally agree. What is that? Okay, sorry, guys. Got to get up here. I have no idea what that emoji is, but it looks kind of fun. Yeah.
This message is held for review.
It's just a little smiley face. I'm going to show that guy.
I'm going to show that guy all the dizzy faces.
Hi, Ashley. I love math. Perfect. Dan, Dan, Dan Zam. I'm glad you love math. You will be a fantastic nurse. So, yes, select all the questions. Make sure that you guys make sure that you guys read the entire question and that you are not just like, oh, Dale, jump into conclusions. Make sure you don't do that. Hi. You know who you are.
I just.
What? I love it when we have face family on. Oh. P.S. hi, mom and dad. They always watch these lives. My mom always calls me. She's like, you did so great last night. Thanks. It's hilarious. Okay. Hi, mom, Hi, dad. Sorry, guys. So perfect. Okay, now the next tip that I have for you. Imagine you are in a perfect world, okay? Perfect world. Like nclex is a perfect world. Imagine that you have unlimited time, unlimited resources. Imagine that you have all, like the whole team on the floor is there just to take care of, you know, whatever patient is in your case scenario. Question. So, you know, it's. Nclex is not a real world. Just imagine that it's a person perfect world. And with this also, you have to, like, eliminate all previous experience. So when you walk through that door to take your exam, you have to forget all about everything, you know, from working on the floor or if you're, you know, if you have experience as a tech and as a cna, as an LPN and you're, you know, going to take the NCLEX rn, you know, you have to like, check, check your experience at the door.
Yeah, we get that. A lot. And that's something that we tell our students in the membership. A lot is really, that's a question that we got asked a lot too is does my experience help with nursing school? Or I was, I was a tech before and I'm going to nursing school. Does it help? And really this speaks to it is that it's really hard and actually, it could actually be a detriment to you because you do need to get rid of that because that's real world. Nursing school's not the.
Well, nursing school questions are not the real world.
The exams again are a perfect world, perfect environment. Textbook, textbook answers is what they're looking for. So just be aware of that. Yeah.
Yes.
Yeah, we get that a lot.
And this actually comes up a lot with parents, parents with moms. So if you are in like your pediatrics course right now and you have to do all the like developmental milestones, this is where we see this a lot. Moms will draw on their experience, right? Like, oh, my child was crawling at, you know, two months old. So of course that's the answer. No, that is not the textbook answer. Normal babies don't crawl by two months old. So you know, you just, you have to check your experience at the door. Like just forget about it. Because NCLEX is a perfect world, is a textbook world. So just be advised. Now the next one that I want to walk through is a pretty common one that you will have this type of question on all of your exams where you'll see this.
Before you do that, just a tangent here. All these Test taking strategies 2 for the NCLEX is in our study system that we have. That's what Christina has down here on the table. And while we are live, if you go to nursingschoolsuccess.com study system and use code live, you can grab $10 off the digital copy of that. So it would be great to follow along with that. And there's other tips in there as well for a bunch of stuff that will help you with nursing school.
A bunch of stuff.
A bunch.
So page 38, we're going through page 38 all the way to 41. So you get 44 whole pages of NCLEX test taking strategies here in the nursing school study system. So yeah, like Matthew said, nursingschoolofsuccess.com study system, you can grab that.
Those are some of the tips that we're going over right now. So Annie, congrats too. Made in 90. Studied hard. Yes, studying hard.
Good job, Annie. Fantastic.
Where do we go to get that book again.
Nursingschoolofsuccess.com forward/study system.
Yes, and use code LIVE for $10 off. It is the digital copy. So you can pop it on your phone or your computer and just pull it up whenever you want.
Yep. Pull it up while you study. It's going to be so helpful for you if you are a Nursing SOS member. By the way, though, I know we have a lot of you guys on here. Nursing SOS members. You have this for free inside your member dashboard. So if you log into the membership community and then just click on Study System, it's there for you. I know you probably already know that, but just in case you forgot, it is there for you. So members don't go buy it. It's already there. All right, I want to give you. Okay, so we'll do. We'll start with these two. So when you get to your exam, on every exam, you really will have questions that follow this kind of pattern where there are two answers that are almost nearly identical. So there will be, you know, there could be, like, two answers that you just can't really tell them apart. If that's the case, if you come to a test question that gives you, you know, the. And it gives you, you know, four or five answers, and two of the answers are just. They look so similar that they're basically saying the same thing, then eliminate both of them. They are both most likely wrong. Now, however, on the flip side, if you come to a nursing school question where two answers are opposite of each other, then one of those is most likely the correct one. Does that make sense? So if there's two answers that are super, super similar, then they're both most likely wrong. But if there's two answers that are pretty much stark opposite of each other, direct contrast to one another, they. One of those is most likely correct. Okay, you guys following along with that? Which kind of makes sense, you know, they want to. They want you to. They want to know if you know. Okay, is it, you know, is it this or is it that? You know, because if it's asking you, like, blood pressure, right? It could say, like, well, is this hypertensive or hypotensive? And you, you need to know, right? So they're stark opposite of each other. So one of those is most likely correct.
Okay.
Yep. Now, one tip that I think is really, really important, again, one that you will get just about on every exam that you take is this idea of global words. Or what's another way to say that, like, global words Are like, I don't know, they're like, they're like, like always right or never. What is it like fatalistic words? Almost not. That's not right. It's not the right phrase. It's not the right word. But like global words like this is. That's like always the same thing or never correct or you know, something like that. So, so if you see an answer that uses what we call a global word. Oh, all encompassing. Thank you, Sarah.
Yeah, there you go.
Encompassing. Something like that that says like you should always do this or you never do this. Absolutes, Gary. Oh, perfect. That is such a great word for this. Like absolutes. So yes, those answers. Definites. You guys are fantastic. Okay.
Yeah, my brain was not working there, so thanks guys.
I usually get on Google and type in like, what's a cinnamon? A cinnamon.
What's a cinnamon for this word?
Cinnamon. A cinnamon. That's so funny. Oh, great, you guys. Oh, perfect. Yes, thank you. Absolute. So like global words, definitive, all encompassing definite words, those can be eliminated. So answers that use a word like never or always, those just like those, Those answers are most likely not going to be correct. Okay.
You know what I was just thinking, I'm just curious. This is just off the top of my head, but while we're going through these strategies for test taking, if you have. Encompass. Encompass. If you have encountered.
Encompassed.
Encountered these questions that have these kind of strategies or questions that you would use these strategies for, go ahead and pop those in the comments too. I'm curious if you have had these questions that had these absolutes that were not the right answer or the ones that had the similar answers that didn't work out or the opposite answers. I'm just, I'm just curious if you guys have encountered these, these types of questions.
If you know what I'm. If you know what I'm talking about.
Yeah, for sure.
Throw an emoji.
Throw them up.
Throw them up.
Throw up. Your favorite emoji.
Also, that's a great question though too. Who has taken a nursing school exam? Because every time we go live and every time we've asked this question, I think there's always a few people who actually haven't taken a nursing school exam yet. So for those of you who have not taken a nursing school exam. Wow, you're way ahead of the game. Watching this live video. You're gonna do great.
Jenny.
I have, I have, I have taken a nursing school exam.
I hate static questions. You. And I'm pretty sure everyone else, Everyone.
Else in the world but Annie, you just rocked your exam.
And we have tips for that.
We have tips for SATA. Oh, let's do that next, since we're on the topic.
Okay.
I have encountered the same answer, but they're not correct answers. I've encountered the same answer. Okay. So, yeah, that's what I was saying. If two answers look super similar to each other, they're both wrong. So eliminate those. Yeah, but if there's two that are opposites of each other, one of those is most likely correct. Yes. Have the LPN administer all the medications. Yeah, I mean, well, if you can delegate that. Delegate that, doctor. You know, it's cool. Like the different states, like, when I was a cna, I was able to be delegated medication. Certain medications just depends on what state you're in. That's a good point, though, Nicola. Delegation rules. Make sure that you know what you can delegate in your state. You know, I have encountered questions with absolutes. I love that. Okay, absolutes. Let's just call them absolutes. I love these. You guys are so helpful. It's fantastic. So, yes. Okay, so sat the questions. Let's jam on that really quick. SATA questions are, as we all know, select all that apply. Right. We don't like those. They're. They're pretty tricky. However, on the new nclex, you will get partial credit. Exciting, right? Who is excited about this?
Throw up a like if you like partial credit.
Throw up a like, if you like partial credit. If you like partial credit on status, please give us a like on YouTube. Hit that like button. What did like, like it up? Like, push that button. There you go.
Thumbs up, thumbs up, thumbs up.
I'm losing words tonight, friends. So sat a question. That's a lot of hearts on Instagram. See, I love Instagram. We should have that on YouTube too. Just, like, where the hearts just spam. The hearts keep going. Like, the hearts just. Just keep coming. And sometimes the hearts are colored and it makes me so happy. Big and big. Like. Yeah. So they should definitely make that for YouTube as well. Lots of emojis for the SATA questions. Yes. So for SATA questions, as you are going through them, you will want to answer the question. So. Okay, so I need to put my coffee down. You'll have your case scenario right for a SATA question, and then they will give you, like, five answers. Typically, like, five answers to choose from. And it will be a box. It won't be. What do they call it? A radio button.
Okay. Yeah, yeah. Radio button is the one that you.
Click and, like, yeah, you can only click one.
You can only click one.
Yeah, but a check box. So the static questions will be check boxes and you can choose all that applies. Select all that apply. Right. So as you're going through those answers, here's what you're going to want to do. You need to read the case scenario question. You need to read the question, right? Like we talked about originally, Read the entire question, read the first answer, and then select that answer or think about that answer as if it's true or false. So as it relates to the question. So then select it if it's true to the question, or I guess if it's a negative. Like if they're. If they're. If the question's asking you, like what? Like what we said before. What interventions would be contraindicated? Look at the first answer and say, is that true or is it false? If it's true, select it. If it's false, don't select it. Right. If it's true and you contraindicate that answer. If you contraindicate that intervention, then you select it. But if it's false, then you don't. Does that make sense? And then read the question again. Read the second answer. Okay. True or false, Is it true or is it false? Okay, so if it is true, answer it. If it is false, don't click it.
Yeah. So basically, if a question has four ABCD and you need to choose, select all that apply out of abcd. Just treat it as four true or false questions and just read the whole question, Go over the first one, true or false, then read it again and go over the second one and repeat. Rinse and repeat until done with all the options.
Rinse until done with all the.
So, yeah, just treat it as for true or false questions. And that really helps you focus in on each individual selection and then really hone in on whether it applies or doesn't to the question.
Yes, absolutely. Okay, Nicola, here I was feeling bad to even think of coffee at 10. Yeah, copy it up, friends. That's kind of like nursing life, right? Okay, now the next tip that I want to talk about is kind of like. Well, kind of what we already touched on is delegation and scope of practice. Make sure that you are always selecting answers that are within your scope of practice. So here's the thing about the NCLEX and nursing school exams in general. They are not going to test you on advanced practice things or if you're in an LPN program, they're not going to test you on RN things. If you're A. In an RN program, they're not going to test you on the DNP things, you know, so you have to know what is within your scope of practice, what is within another, you know, team member scope of practice. Like, what can a tech do? What can a CNA do? What can an MA do? What can an LPN do? What can an RN do? What can a, you know, midwife do? What can the physician do? You know, you have to know all these things, and then when you get to, you know, your exam, you have to make sure that you are only choosing the answers that are within your scope of practice. Okay. So you're not gonna go try to drink your own patient or something? You know, like, don't do anything wild on an exam question. So this is not like Grey's Anatomy or whatever. What are the crazy. What are some of the crazy shows? Like?
Like, I don't know what new medical shows are out now, but yeah, someone.
Mentioned on my Instagram, what was that intervention? Is that a nursing, like, nursing show? Is that something that I should know about? Because it sounded like it was a pretty popular thing. I just had never heard of it before, and I feel like I'm a little behind the times because I'm still talking about House.
Yeah, I guess Grey's Anatomy is still.
On, but really, it's kind of so popular now.
Yeah. I don't. I don't know why I know that. Don't ask me why I know that.
No. What's the other one? What's the other one with the guy from. I don't even know where, but, like, he's from other things.
The guy from Home Alone. That would be House. Fun fact. Fun fact about that. Home Alone. Go back and look at Home Alone and the guys breaking in. One. One of them is House.
No.
So that's a fun fact for today. Yeah. How crazy is that?
And isn't he one of the actors that, like. Isn't he British?
Yeah.
And. And like, they can switch on and off their accents. Like, that is very er.
Er.
Yeah. No. What is the thing? It's like he go. He's like this. It was on usa. It was almost like White Collar and those things. And then it was this doctor that was the doctor for, like, celebrities. Someone tell me that you know the George Clooney. Someone tell me that you know the answer to this question.
Because while we're figuring that out. Annie, thanks for answering the question. Can SATA. Can for Sarah. Can all answers be correct? Yes, all of them can be correct or even One can be correct. Can none be correct?
No, there's always.
There's always at least one.
But I believe that all of them. There is. No, it's not that one. It's not. What is that Nick Tuck that used to be so popular? It might still be popular. I don't know. No, it's not that one. It's like this guy, he. He's a doctor and he's always walking around with this like, doctor briefcase.
Are you talking. Whatever. The good doctor.
What's a good doctor?
I don't know. It's. It's another medical show. Okay.
I think I know if. If I. If someone wrote the title down here. It's like the. The guy who's like. I don't know, what else is he in? I'm so bad at pop culture. You guys, we know Hallmark. That's about where we end on Sada.
One or all can. Yeah, one or all can be anywhere in between.
It can be zero.
Yeah, it can't be zero, but it can be anywhere in between one and all of them.
Yep.
So.
Yep. And even one answer, Annie, wouldn't that be the worst? Like you get a select all the fly question and it's just one answer. I would really be double, like second guessing myself on that one. Oh, you guys, that TV show is going to bother me.
It's going to bug.
Me so much.
Just throw up all the TV shows.
Like, he's on the coast. It's a USA show. I think it was on USA with Bird Notice.
We're going back in time for this one.
This was my life, like a decade ago. 15 years. I mean, when was this on TV?
I. Oh, I think I know which one you're talking about now.
Right?
Yeah.
He's always like helping the, like, the really, like wealthy people on the. On the ocean. Royal pains. I can sleep tonight. Thank you. I actually really liked that show. I used to watch it. I actually couldn't tell you an episode, but I mean, I used to watch that show with Bird Notice. I really liked Bird Notice. I don't know. Thank you, Nicola. Okay.
All right, while we're on that, go ahead and shoot down in the comments all of you guys favorite med shows. If you guys have a favorite med show, let's just go ahead and do that.
That was. That was a little bit of a detour.
Yeah, that was quite the. Quite the detail.
I think it was worth it because I can sleep tonight. Royal Sarah says. Yeah. So, I mean, people know what this is. It's not just me.
I Never watched it. You tried to get me into it.
I thought it was cool. Hey, we did White Collar for a while. Like, we love that show. White Collar is a pretty good show. Who likes White Collar? It's not on anymore, right?
Oh, no, it's not there anymore.
And then the girl. The girl got pulled to Hallmark, which is pretty cool. So, you know, everyone's getting these days.
White Collar, like that show.
Anyway, friends. Okay, now.
Now that we were off on that.
Detour, well, that was just all about delegation, right? Like that guy on Royal Pains. He's just like sticking tubes in people.
Don't be like the guy on Royal Pains. Don't be that guy.
Love White Collar. Grey's Anatomy for sure. Okay, Friends. You guys are like, we're this. We're like. Like, we are the same. That's just how it is. I gotta tell you. So make sure that you are not doing anything crazy, all right? Like real pains. Like Grey's Anatomy, Like House, like whatever other medical. Don't be going sticking random tubes and needles and people on your NCLEX question questions.
Just don't be doing it again. It's a perfect world, perfect environment in. In nursing school test land. So take that into consideration.
I gotta tell you, it's late, friends. I'm drinking coffee, actually. This is decaf, if anybody was wondering. And yes, I have water here. And coffee. This is just how we roll. All right, next tip. Rarely call the doctor who has had this experience. Where. Well, I'm sure all of you, but raise your hand if you remember this. An answer on the exam question is to call the doctor. Raise your hand, put up a favorite emoji. Unicorn emoji. All right, I need to move because my feet are falling asleep again.
And while people are doing that. Linda, what are you. I guess. Can you give me a little bit more details on. On what you're looking at for ghost calc?
Will we get any more tablet and med dose calc questions? I don't think the 10 was enough.
So do you have context?
Like, where are those in the membership? Are those in the dose count files box? The dose calc box, I think has more than 10. The membership community has a handful. Has quite a few. It might be 10 in the membership. Yeah, it might be. So you're probably talking about them.
Which ones were you practicing? And we'll get you helped out while people are.
Well, the thing actually. Okay, here's actually what I want to mention.
Okay.
Too inside the membership community, because some of you guys were asking about it a Little earlier on this live, so the membership community, we have tons, I mean, like hundreds of step by step nursing lectures for you where I walk you through literally step by step, everything you have to know for nursing school. But then also we have a nursing team, so we have nursing tutors on our team where you can submit a tutor form and get your answers.
Yeah, so I. Especially for doscalc, I would definitely recommend.
That is the tutor form.
Yes, the membership. So, yeah, definitely use the tutor form. When you come across questions and you try and work them out, be sure to. If you get stuck on something, be sure to use the tutor form. Show all of your work so that we can help you out as best we can with showing it exactly where there might be a hiccup or something.
So we like to know where you're getting stuck so that we can help you the most. So, yes, inside the membership community, just submit a tutor form, Linda, and we can help you out with those Dose calc, a tablet, med dose questions. I mean, not a problem. Like, this is what we live for.
And if you're still, if you're still practicing, if you haven't yet, the dose calc box, like we mentioned, has a booklet of even more practice questions there.
Yes, absolutely. Oh, members get 20% off. So Linda, if you go to the membership, you get 20% off the dose calc box. So if you are interested in that, which gives you like the flashcards and the whiteboard and all the things, the step by step guide and the whole workbook. So members get 20% off. So you just go into your, go into the membership community, click on nursing school boxes and your like coupon and everything, everything will be there for you. So just a side note there and excuse me. So if, if you guys are nursing as those members, I know several of you are on here. Yeah. Just as a reminder, you get 20 off our whole shop. So there you go, any box you want. 20 off. All right. I said rarely call the doctor. Where are my emojis?
Rarely call the doctor.
I see emojis.
So what was that again? Really? Call the doctor if you have seen a question.
Yes, if you've seen a question, if.
You'Ve seen a question on your tests, on your exams that say call the doctor as an option, go ahead and throw up an emoji.
Yep, throw up an emoji. If one of the answers on your exam questions is to call the doctor. Because I'm telling you right now, friend, it's not the right answer unless there is absolutely nothing else you can do nothing else. Like, there's no assessment. There's no nursing intervention. There's no nothing. If there is nothing else you can do, then, yes, I will let you call the doctor. You can call the doctor then. But if you get to that question on your nursing school exam and there is an answer that says call the doctor, you need to make absolutely sure that you cannot do, like, nothing else on, like, no other answer on that for that question is something that would help the patient and is something you can do. So make sure. Make sure that there's nothing else you can do. So make sense. They just love that one because, you know, it's like, what did someone say last week on the Live? Don't. Don't pass the buck. Yeah, yeah, don't pass the buck. So, like, same. Same kind of thing with, like, what we were talking about delegation a little bit earlier. Like, you know, don't. Don't, you know, make sure you're delegating things properly. Making. Make sure, you know all the. The proper scope of practice for the team. Make sure you know what you can do. Make sure you know what your CNA can do. Lpn, all rn. Make sure you know all the roles and make sure that you're not just. Yeah. Passing off the responsibility to the doctor. I really like that. Okay, so talk about Grey's Anatomy. I think this is a Grey's Anatomy meme. You probably would not have seen this unless you are nursing all over Instagram, but have you guys seen this meme where it's like, Grey's Anatomy where, like, three of the doctors are trying to get the patient to stand up off the bed? And the caption, like, the meme caption is like, yes, because I always have three doctors come and ambulate my patients for me. Like, no, that never happens. Like, that would be. And that's crazy to see that in real life.
Not use TV shows as examples.
I am so happy that you told me that it's Royal Pains, because I. I seriously. That would have really, really kept me up tonight. But Royal Pains. Okay, so they know a lot more about us now.
Yeah.
And the TV shows that we watch, Burn Notice, White Collar. We watched Suits. I thought Suits was pretty funny. Like, the earlier. It's like, if you guys notice that, like, the earlier seasons really are the best. Like the Earl. Like, the first season of Suits, I really thought was good. And then, I mean, I guess it was.
It was all right.
It's still good. But, like, the first seasons are really good. White Collar really, like, White Collar. Anyway, so there you go. All right. So friends, nursing school study system. Nursingschoolofsuccess.com forward/study system.
Get $10 off for a little bit longer using code live. While we are live, all the strategies, test taking tips, etc. Are in there.
Yep. So we literally walk you through. Someone actually posted. Who was that? Oh, Chris, hi. I love your videos. I'm in second semester. Do you have any good tips for med search? They can be very general. I have. Chris, welcome to my universe. I have so many tips for my surge. Let me just tell you about a thousand. So this study system here, the nursing school system study system is literally my step by step guide for how to study in nursing school. This is how we teach inside our membership community. This is always how I recommend the nursing student study because it is the best way to study and learn things step by step. So yes, I have a full step by step process for how to study Med Surge. And then if you want med surg tips, Chris. So yeah, definitely get the study system. But also you can check out on YouTube, go to YouTube.com and then just search on YouTube. Nursing SOS Med Search. And we have a whole med search playlist or like Nursing SOS study tips, something like that. We've got tons and tons and tons and tons of videos on med surge, Med surge disorders. You know, just meds or study tips, fundamental studies. Yeah, we've got it all.
Yeah, so we have general med surge tips, like, like you said. Also we have been going through some specific disorders and going in depth, everything that you need to know about certain disorders. We've, we've been doing that up on YouTube as well. So just search Nursing SOS. Just go to our channel and check it out there.
Yeah, it's a rough semester. Oh yeah. Med Surge really does that too. You. I'm sorry, Med surge. I actually got this question, I think on TikTok the other day. Someone asked what's the hardest term in nursing school? And med surge is typically what people say. So Med surge. So Chris, if you are in the throes of med surge right now, just know that this is the worst of it. But you can get through. You, you can do it. Seriously. I mean it's really once you like, once you know how to study in med surge, once you understand. Okay, let me just. Because it's my jam. This is what I do. Chris, welcome. Like I said, welcome to my universe. This is what we do. So there are four things that you need to know in med search, Chris. Okay. Ready? Pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment, and nursing interventions. And now I am really going to blow your mind. Everything comes back to the pathophysiology. So if you are in med surg right now, friends, all of you watching, listening out there in the world, if you are in med surg right now, pathophysiology, you must know your patho. What is happening with the disorders that you are studying. And then that patho, you have to connect the signs and symptoms, the nursing assessment and the nursing interventions back to that pathophysiology. That is the best way to study for med surg. Now, of course, in the study system, I walk you through. You through that. I walk you through critical thinking in med surge. I walk you through exactly how to do that process. So if you want that deep dive, definitely check out the study system. Nursingschoolofsuccess.com forward/study system.
Yeah, Linda, also. Yes, should be coming to you any day now. I remember shipping it out to you. So farm box.
Excited for the farm box. Incoming. Okay.
Okay. You're gonna grab something.
Okay, grabbing something. I have a whole bookshelf things. Linda, I am so excited to. Yeah. That you got the farm box. Super stoked. So, yeah, if you guys want. So we have right now two boxes in our box shop. Um, so we have the dose calc box and then we have the pharmacology box. So they both come with, like, flashcards. Well, pharmacology box, I mean, it's like. It's flash. It's like a deck of flashcards. So it's. It's all the meds that you need to know for nursing school broken up. Just the key points that you have to know for them. So it just makes pharmacology so much easier. Pretty amazing. Oh, Chris, this is perfect timing. Okay, so, Saunders, if you are answering nclex questions or if you want to do practice questions, this is the book that I recommend. So it's the Saunders nclex RN examination review book. So just like screenshot that. Okay, screenshots. Okay. So this, they have an art. So this is the RN version. They also have an LPN version. I think it's PN and clips. Pn. So this is the book I recommend. It is like a study guide. It will not help you critically think. That's the main problem with it that I do not like. So it's not going to help you critically think. However, it's kind of a nice overview of things. It's like. It's like a High level study guide. But then also at the end of every chapter, I don't know if you can see here. There you go. At the end of every chapter it has part practice questions, so, and rationales. So this is the one I would recommend for, for if you're needing to do practice questions. Now, Chris, let me grab you one thing. So handy to have this bookshelf right there. Chris, this is the one you want. Patho. If you're looking for a textbook, this is the one I recommend. Now of course, I mean if you want a textbook, that's great. Like this is the one that I recommend. Pathophysiology made incredibly easy. This is the one. Now if you don't want to read a textbook and you want me just to teach it to you, the membership community, we have patho videos for all the major disorders you need to know about nursing school. And I literally walk you through it step by step, exactly what happens with it. So if you don't want to figure it out yourself via a textbook, if you want me to teach it to you, then there you go. The membership community is definitely what you will want to, you know, you'll want to get into that.
Sarah is asking, is there an NGN version, I'm assuming, of the Saunders book? Is that, is that a correct assumption? NGN version. You were going over the book.
Oh, an NG. Oh, I, I'm looking at YouTube. I'm like where that comment. Probably not an NGN version, but I don't, I haven't seen one.
Yeah, but the content's all the same.
So yeah, the content's all the same. The questions will be different. So you know, probably. So this is version six. I think this is the updated version as of now. So probably seven. I, I'm sure they're going to do it pretty quickly. It's probably gonna be seven.
Chris, it's lippincott. I don't know.
I always say lip and cot.
Yeah, just made. Just Google it. Amazon.
It's the main incredibly easy series. Yep, it's the main incredibly easy series. So you just want to find the pathophysiology one. I think these are all written by different people. I don't know, I mean different ones. But there's a whole series. A whole series. Gross. So, yep, I have until May of next year, so I'll keep checking. Yeah, Sarah. So I'm sure, I'm sure they're gonna come out. I mean, because the, the NCLEX change, I mean that changes everything, you know, so like all nursing programs the ati. The HESI who. Okay, leave a comment below. Tell us, are you in an ATI or a HESI program? Program? If you are, you know they're gonna be. You're gonna see that switch, you're gonna see that change. So you know they're gonna move away from the current way that the nclex test and you're gonna have, you know, you're gonna start to see the new item questions. Oh, and just we have a lot of people joining us now. A lot of people are on ati. Yes. Wondering the same thing. Yeah. So ati, you're going to see that switch he see, you're going to see that switch over, I would say relatively shortly. Annie.
Yeah.
You're in Kaplan. Okay. So Annie, actually have you seen that change yet? Because we were talking to somebody last week and they said that it's already starting to change in the Kaplan. So I'm just curious if you can tell us if you've started to see kind of that switch over to the new nclex types of like the dropdowns, the extended select, all that apply, the partial credit. Like have you seen, have you seen kind of those things? Oh, Chris, you're in Kaplan too. Okay, so a couple Kaplan people. Here you go. Hussey. Hussey. Ati. Everyone on Instagram is always ati. You guys are so funny. It's always like so split taking fundamentals right now.
Cool.
Yes. So Annie, you started to see that switch over. So yeah, you will definitely start to see more of those kind of test taking. Not like test questions coming in with the hussy with the ati, with your nursing school exams. Yep. So the books will start switching over as well. There was something else I was going to say someone had a question a.
While question on Instagram that was really good.
Where was that?
We probably don't want to open too big a can of worms, but that guy. Because you have very.
I have strong.
You have words.
Strong.
Christina has words. Do you recommend reading the whole chapters of For Fundamentals or follow a teacher at PowerPoint? Do not read the book. The whole book.
He can basically say for me, he knows we've been married for so long. He knows that I have very strong opinions about a lot of things. And. And reading the textbook is one of them.
Only read the things in the book that are related to what your teacher talks about in class.
There you go. I think you can do this. Live by yourself. You're basically, you're just like set man. I'm telling you. Yes, so who is that? Leticia? Hey. So yes, I. Chris. Probably for YouTube from Med Surge.
Oh, God, I'm reading it all.
Don't reading it all. Okay, so here's the thing. If you're trying to read every single thing in the textbook, you are not going to do well on your exam. And you have probably already noticed this, right? Because if you're trying to read all of this, you're gonna know a little bit about a lot of things, but you're not going to know enough about what they actually test you on. Right? And so, like kind of what we talked about, actually, we talked about critical thinking more in the beginning of this live. We'll jam on it just a little bit here. You have to make sure that you are critically thinking and applying the information that you are learning. Okay? So that's where. Well, actually, in the study system. Here, you can hold these.
I'll get these books. You grab the study system. Again, all of this is in the study system. So go ahead and grab that nurse. Nursing schoolofsuccess.com study system use code live $10.
Up on page 17 of the study system, we start on critical thinking. And so I have nine key critical thinking questions that you need to ask yourself as you're studying. And then I also walk you through our DRC critical thinking model. So definition or description, region or rationale, and then connection. So drc, that is how you critically think in nursing school. I also walk you through the two parts to critical thinking. So that's all in the Study System. Nursing SchoolOfSuccess.com Study System. If you want to snag all of that. But here's the problem with reading the whole thing in the textbook. Like many of you have noticed, if you are spending all of your time reading just for the sake of reading, you're not going to do well on your exam because you're not really going to know it. Right? Your nursing school exams and the NCLEX are going to test you on how well you critically think. Okay. And how well you apply the information. So you, you know, you can't just memorize a list of signs and symptoms. You can't just memorize a list of, oh, you know, if this patient has heart failure, I will do XYZ nursing interventions. No, that doesn't work because, you know, you have to understand that case scenario and you have to adapt it based on your what patient situation is actually going on in that case scenario, Right?
So, so it's what they call concept based learning or concept learning, which is how we teach in the membership, too. But, yeah, just understanding the concept and then, yeah, critically thinking about how it all comes together. So someone says that works if your instructor test on what they teach in class. Mine don't. And Leticia said, I just noticed that she's asking questions that are not on her PowerPoint.
Yes. So you have to figure out where the questions are coming from. Okay. So, Leticia, they're most likely either coming from the PowerPoints. Maybe you're not noticing they're on the topics that your PowerPoints are covering. Okay. This happens a lot. So even though your instructor does not give you the answers in class, they will not give you the answers to the test questions in class. Right. Like, you can't just sit in class and then do well on your exam. That's not how it works. No, that's not what we're saying. We're saying to read the sections of the book that are covered in class. So let's say you talk about heart failure in class as a topic. Then you're going to go home and read the textbook. Or, you know, if you're a nursing SOS member, you don't have to read the textbook. You just watch a video. You know, pull up the video series on heart failure that we have for you in the membership community. Watch that. If you're not a member, read the section of your text book that covers heart failure. Okay. So then you'll get those four key things like we talked about earlier. You'll get the path, though. You'll get the signs and symptoms. You'll get the nursing assessment, and you'll get the nursing interventions. That is what you're going to be tested on. Does that make sense? That was a lot of information right there. This recording is going to be on YouTube. I know I talk really fast. It's late. I have a lot of opinions and soapboxes. So, you know, the later it gets, the. The more my opinions come out about certain things. So the recording will be up on YouTube. Definitely watch it if I'm talking too fast for you to follow. Sorry about that. Do you have anything to say? Sip of water.
All right, you take a sip of water, Chris. Good luck on all your exams. I don't read it all. There's too much. Yes, there's too much to read everything. So just focus on the topics that your teachers talk about in class and expand on that in your book, and you'll get everything you need to know. Next exam is about fluid and electrolytes, gas exchange, acid base oh, yeah, yeah, all the fun stuff.
Yeah, all the fun stuff. Fluid and electrolyte exams. Those do tend to be. I remember my fluid electrolyte exam. Yes, it's a doozy. You will do great though. Just worry about it.
The same strategy applies, just those four things. Pathos, signs and systems. Nursing assessment. Nursing interventions.
Yeah, you have to know those four main categories.
Yes, same strategies apply to fluid and electrolytes.
I am writing notes as you guys. I'm glad. I'm glad that you can keep up. And no take. See, this is why I shouldn't be a nursing instructor in an actual school. Like, I need to be recorded so that they can listen back because I just talk way too fast. Ethan, how did you study for med surg? I completely failed my first exam. We just talked about that for the past like 20 minutes probably so on YouTube. I'm not gonna say it all again just because, you know, there you go. I want to repeat myself for another 20 minutes.
So yes, all of these are recorded. Definitely go to our YouTube channel, you YouTube.com nursingsos and just search for our videos on med surg. It's all there. Tips and tricks on med surg and also some disorders that go through the whole system in depth. I just finished editing diabetes type 2. So that's going to be coming one of these weeks. So if you're interested in that or on how to study med surg, go ahead and hit subscribe, hit the bell. All of those good things.
Oh, no.
There's our alarm clock right there.
It may look.
It may look like a baby monitor, but it's really an alarm clock.
Okay, guys, we will see you. Okay. Either tomorrow or next week. It really depends on the alarm clock. So we will follow me on Instagram. I'm pretty good at doing Instagram stories, letting you know when we're going to go live and what topic is going to be on. So we hope to see you again next time. It'll be either tomorrow or next week. We'll see how it goes with our little alarm clock.
Thank you everyone for joining. Again. If you need help with med surg, if you need help with the NCLEX study tips, if you need help with nursing school. Nursing school. Nursing school. Success.com study system and use code live. While we are live, we're not going to be live for very much longer.
I'm going to start royal pains. You're going to start royal pains somewhere. We should really go back and watch that.
I don't know. I can see what we have wandering around White Collar. I do want to rewatch. I'm really. Man, poor Pop Mozzie, the actor that played Mozzy Past.
So, no, that is sad.
So, all right, well, you guys take care, and we'll see you next time.
See you next time.
You're right. Bye. Bye. Bye.
Bye. Bye. Bye again and again. Bye. Bye.
