I do T shirts. I look so cozy.
I'm in T shirts.
I feel cozy.
Hello, everyone. Welcome to the nursing school show where we talk about Christina's fashion and lack of fashion and nursing school. All things nursing school related, guys. All things nursing school. Happy December.
Hello.
We will be.
It's been December for, like, three weeks now, and we keep saying happy.
Yeah, happy December.
Because we will. December.
It is still.
Still happy. It is still.
Actually, today's the 14th, which means, like, we're halfway through December, guys. We're halfway through December, which means that Christmas is almost here.
Who has been waiting for this day for entire life? I love Christmas. It's the best. It's the best. All right, friends, throw down your comments.
Throw down questions in the comments.
I do have something I would like to start with.
Okay. That's Christina. I'm Matthew.
Hello.
Just getting all the intros out of the way first.
Ask us anything.
Nursing school show. Ask us anything. And we will. Yes, we will get to them. Apparently, Christina has something first. So we'll listen to what Christina has to say first and then get into some questions. So write them down in the comments.
You always made fun of me when we first started YouTube, right? Like, years ago. He would always make fun of me that my hands do weird things. Like post in the chat. Post in the comments, friends. And now you're doing the same thing. I think it's so funny.
I am doing the same thing. Partially to make fun.
Still. I. Okay.
I could do that partially.
More. Yes. Yeah, for sure. Okay, friends, here is what we're going to talk about, because it's. What would you say the 14th of December?
It is the 14th of December 1 4. As our little one wants to say.
Love it. A lot of us are going to start nursing school again in January, right? Who just finished up a term?
Kayla, I literally just got my final grades and I'm moving on to the next semester.
There you go, Kayla.
Congratulations.
Done.
Way to go.
So January coming up on the next term, next semester, next quarter, whatever your school does, the biggest thing that I want you to focus on, Friends, if you are just starting nursing school in January, Kayla, this does not apply to you. Does not apply to you. Anybody who is just starting nursing school, like, your first term in nursing school will be January. I need you to focus on dose calc. Dose calc. Who is in nursing school already? Like, who has taken a semester, a term in nursing school already? Raise your hand, please, and tell me in the comments. How important was dose calc?
Jennifer's life. You're moving on to level two, so this applies to you. How important was dose calc?
Really important. I'm gonna answer it for you. Tell everyone of everyone you know in the world. If you are just starting nursing school, what do you need to focus on? Dose calc? Let's all say it at the same time. Focus on dose calc. Now. If you are continuing a nursing school like so many of you are. Saeed, Katie Tuffy, 2105. Jennifer, Linda. Hello. They say Katie already. I say Katie. Hello. Good morning, Kayla, Amanda.
Super.
Must pass everybody on Instagram. If you are continuing in your program like you already did a semester already, or you have a little bit of nursing school under your belt, here's what you're going to want to do before January. I want you to find an upperclassman who is like one term ahead of you, just one term. That's ideal. If you can't find someone that's just one term ahead of you, like, two terms is fine. It's better if it's just one, though. And ask them, what does that. What does your next term look like? So let's say you have four terms in your nursing program. You just finished term one and you're going into term two. Find someone who's going into term three. They already finished term two. So find someone who just finished the term that you're now going into and ask them about it. What did they learn? What is required? What's expected? What readings do you have to do? What topics do you learn about? What papers do you have to write? How many care planes do you have to do? I want you to know everything before you start. Okay? Know everything. Cool. It's really, really important that you know and plan ahead before you start nursing school, because it's going to help you not get behind in the first few weeks of the program. It's really, really easy to, you know, start nursing school off behind, because you'll get to nursing school that first day, your new term, you'll get there your first day, and there's so much information thrown at you all at once that it can be overwhelming. And if you plan for that ahead of time, go in prepared, you already know what to expect. You already know what's going to happen, you know what topics you're going to learn, you know the expectations, expectations of you. That is really going to set you up for success. So, Kayla, Amanda, Linda, Jennifer, Tuffy, Malang, Blessi, everyone there on and on. Instagram. Sue. Hello. Naomi, Hello. The journey of Jamie. Hello. Good morning, Maria. Hi. So all of y' all that are doing continuing your nursing program in January, make sure that you do that. Find an upperclassman that just took the term that you're going into and ask them about it.
So we are getting to recap, go for it. Because we are getting this question a lot. What do I do now? It's winter break, just got out or really nervous starting in January or what have you. So to recap, just high level, this is what Christina is saying. Really, you fall into two camps. Whether first time nursing student, first going into it, or you're already in it, you're just going into your next semester, next term. So if it's a first time for you guys, dose calc, we're seeing very important all the way down. Some people said some classes you might even need or some schools you might need to even pat or get 100% or you don't pass. That's not just some, that's pretty much all of them, right?
The doscal test.
Yes.
That's a huge misconception. We hear this all the time from nursing students like Christina. We, we get emails all the time. Christina, you have no idea. My school requires me to get 100% on my dose calc test. And here's what I'm going to say to you, my friend, that is the same for pretty much every other nursing school in the world. Okay, I can't speak for the world, but I know that in the US that's how we do it here. Schools want you, I want you to get 100% on the dose calc test. You've got to get 100% on it. Or like someone just said, said. Who was that on Instagram? Maria, Camilla. In some programs like mine, if you don't pass, you fail the class. Absolutely true. That is absolutely true for the vast majority of nursing schools out there. If you do not pass your dose calc exam the first within the first two weeks of the term, you have to drop out of nursing school. Like, you fail out of the program.
So all this to say that I don't want you to feel like you're the unique snowflake that, oh, all the other schools have it easier or all the other schools, you don't have to do this because yes, everyone has to go through the same thing. So again, if you're in this camp, first time nursing student, getting started in January, dose calc 100%.
Absolutely.
Dose calc. Dose calc.
Jennifer, your school was 90%.
Yep.
Yep. That is a huge blessing. Yep. That is a huge Blessing. Ours is 88.
What?
I have actually never heard it. That low. 88%. I have never heard of that.
Yep.
Never heard of that.
Teffy, My dose calc. If you fail the test, you fail the semester. The dose calc test, you fail a semester. So. Yep.
Bummer.
So if it's your first time, then definitely focus on doscalc. Yep. Now, if you're in the other camp, you're moving on to your next term, your next semester. What advice did Christina have? Look to an upperclassman, the person that just completed that semester, go and pick their brain.
Yep.
Figure out everything about what's coming down the road so that you can be more prepared. We've talked about this. That really stress. A big part of it is the fear. The fear of the unknown. I think that's a. Isn't that a Frozen 2 song into the unknown? Just comment below if that is, or thumbs up, whatever. Yeah. Into the unknown. So it's a fear of the unknown is really what's causing that stress. So talk to the people that have already gone through it. Pick their brains. Once you know all that, what's coming down the road anyway, it's a big load off your shoulders and you can focus on the content and not fearing about what's coming. So that's.
Absolutely. Absolutely. Friends. Dose calc. You have to do every single term in a lot of programs. Mine was totally the same way. Katie, you have to get 100%. Yep. Who just said they have to get an 80%? Who just said 80%? I thought I saw someone say, I have never heard 80.
85 or higher.
I have never heard 85. I have never heard in the 80s. I've only heard of 90 or higher or 100 or higher. I've never. If you are in a program where you have to get 85 on the dose calc test, just be blessed, my friend. And that is. I've never heard of that before.
I don't want you to think about this as like we're scaring you or that this is. This is something to be scared of because it's just putting the importance really on what's important. And dose calc is super important. Knowing your dose calculations is super, super important. So the nursing schools want you to be the best nurses ever. So they're going to put a lot of importance on dose calculated because you're supposed to know that. So don't look at it saying, oh, that's so Unfair or. Oh, that doesn't make any sense. Why does it have to be a hundred percent? It's super, super important. So just put your time in study, study, study, and then you can do it.
Yep, absolutely. Sorry, Facebook, we just lost you.
Oh, no.
Okay, hopefully it's on the page.
We'll see.
For us, it goes up each semester, 90, 95 and then 100. Wow. Exciting. Hey, Facebook, welcome back.
You took it each semester too, right?
Yeah, we took it each semester. Yeah, yeah, yep, yep.
So just, yeah, just take it and know that that's super important. So go ahead and buckle down and do it again. First time for other people. Yeah, definitely look to higher class men, people that just finished that semester, that term so you have just a better idea of what's going down.
So 100.
Awesome.
All right, friends, what questions do you have for me?
Do we just want to jump right into Jasmine's first question with any tips for medcalc?
Any tips for medcalc practice problems? A lot of practice problems. It depends on what term you're in. Will decide what you need to study for dose calc. So whatever's going to be on your term or in your term next or on your test, your next dose calc test will determine are you doing like reconstitution, are you doing basic PO meds, are you doing iv? Are you doing, you know, all the things, all the dose calc things. Make sure you know what's coming up on your dose calc test, you know, pediatric weight based calculation, heparin, all that stuff, know what it is, and then do practice problems about the whole thing, all of it. Now the number one tip we have for dose calculate is dimensional analysis. Really, really, really always want you to use dimensional analysis, always. We have too many nursing students who come to us, to me, email us, talk to our, the other nurses on our team and ask this question, I'm trying to figure out this dose calc problem and then they send it to us with the formula method. And you can't do it because with the formula method you're constrained with how many conversions you can use. So when you get to a dose calc exam and your instructors expect you to use multiple conversion factors, the formula method will not work. It will fail you. So if you do not understand and don't know how to do dimensional analysis, that dose calc exam in nursing school is going to be awfully difficult for you. It's going to be awfully difficult. The formula method is popular with nurses on the floor because in real life you often only have to do one conversion. That is not the case for a nursing school examination. A nursing school exam is not real life. A nursing school exam. Your instructors are going to try to trick you. Genuinely. I'm not kidding. They're going to try to trick you and put in multiple conversions where you need to do multiple things. And the formula method will not work. It might work for some problems, it will not work for all of them. I can just about guarantee you that. So very much. I very much recommend. So starting with dimensional analysis, learning dimensional analysis, that is my mountain to die on. Genuinely, like, if I can preach it from the mountaintops. I want you to use dimensional analysis.
It's really the difference between rote memorization and critical thinking. Rote memorization. If you just have facts and you just need to learn facts, rote memorization is the way to go. There are places and situations where rote memorization works. Think about rote memorization as being aligned to that formula method where you just have to memorize this formula goes with this. This needs to go with this, this needs to go with this. So it's just a lot more memorization, but it doesn't help with the more complex problems that you'll probably see on your dose calc test. In that case, you want to move towards more critical thinking, more putting together, okay, how to adjust this so that it will work and then more critically thinking about the problem, which is really what dimensional analysis is. It allows you to do what more complex problems without having to memorize a whole lot of things. It's just memorize the methodology of doing it and the understanding behind it and you'll be fine.
Yep, absolutely. Hey, friends. Sj, Jade, Timbs. Hello. Sorry, Facebook, we're having, like, connectivity problems with you, so come on over to YouTube or Instagram. We didn't even learn the formula method. They just taught us dimensional analysis. Perfect. I have heard it the other way. This is upsetting to me. I have heard it the other way. Where nursing instructors don't want you to use dimensional analysis. They say use the formula method. And here's what I would say to that. If you have a nursing instructor that says or requires you to use the formula method, ask them to do a pitocin calculation using the formula method. It will not work. So there are limitations. There are limitations.
Yeah. So, Jasmine, you're. You were just talking? Yeah. My professor taught us the formula method and I find myself struggling a lot.
So terrible.
Even though they taught you that. Just look at the dimensional analysis. We do have A cheat printout or something.
We do, we have a cheat sheet on that walks you through how to do dimensional analysis.
I don't know where it is.
Hey, Facebook, we've got a lot of people on Facebook right now. Can you come on over to YouTube or Instagram? Because for some reason we're having connectivity problems with the WI fi and stuff on Facebook. We keep losing you. So come on to. Over to YouTube. YouTube.com forward slash nursing sos. We're on live on YouTube, also on Instagram @nicing sos.
Okay, I know. I don't know where that.
So it is nursing schoolofsuccess.com forward/dose calc is the free cheat sheet. Nursingschoolofsuccess.com forward/dose calculator Calc.
Okay.
Yep.
Yeah. So definitely, even though they teach you a formula method, it's. I'm not saying that it's something that you don't need to know. You, you can, you can learn that. But definitely for the more complex problems and for your dose calc tests, the dimensional analysis approach will probably serve you better.
Absolutely. Ms. Witch, thank you for the cheat sheet. It is a godsend. I'm glad that it helps. It will walk you through step by step, how to do dimensional analysis. So helpful. Please, please go download that right now. Nursingschoolofsuccess.com doscalc Great.
So, Jasmine, you said that you're also in pharmacology and your general question of how hard was pharmacology or is pharmacology?
Pharmacology is a challenge for sure. There's so many medications that you need to know. So my program was a little bit different than. Well, actually, we're seeing this more and more with nursing students telling us are in. When in my nursing school, we did pharmacology through the entire program. So it was mixed in through the whole, you know, years that I was there, which is different than in some other programs that have a standalone pharma pharmacology course. That was not the case for my nursing program. So we learned like basics of farm in fundamentals. We had a big pharmacology textbook, like, you know, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and like all the basic stuff. And then we get into, like, medications and all the things about pharm. You know, there's a lot to know. That's the thing. There's a lot to know. I think that's really where the challenge comes in. There's a lot of medications. So. Which is why if You're a nursing SOS member inside your dashboard right now. We just released an entire medication database for. For you. It's all there. It's pretty incredible. So if you are learning medications in nursing school, just log in, go to your dashboard, click on pharmacology course, and then you'll see like 100 over 120.
Yeah, it's over 100 over 130. I believe it is medications. So in the pharmacology course, there's actually. It's broken down in sections. The first section is general how to. How to study pharmacology. So it's all the general information there. And then after that, it's actually broken down by section, by how we want you to study.
Yep.
By pharmacology, which is by medication class.
Yep.
Sometimes by system, but yeah, it's broken down into different sections. So you can go to the section that you're looking for the class and the medications that we have are in there for that class.
So therapeutic or pharmacologic class, it will be divided in there for you. So if you're a nurse, I guess this member, go to your dashboard, click on pharmacology course. This is medications are there for you. So, so helpful. Now, Alicia, you said that. Yeah, it's sprinkled throughout. That's how mine was.
Yeah. Jasmine says no, mine is just a.
Separate class, so yeah, could go either way. I honestly liked having it sprinkled throughout. I don't think it was harder. Of course, I don't have any, like, thing to compare it to because I didn't have a standalone pharmacology class. But honestly, I think that having it sprinkled was the best because you learn it as you go and as it applies, rather than learning it all at once. So I think that if you're trying to learn it all at once and you know, like, you, you're learning about NSAIDs, but you don't have any patients taking NSAIDs. It's very hard to connect the two. I like having it sprinkled. So you're like learning NSAIDS as you're having patients taking NSAIDs. Does that make sense? So a struggle there. Who is it? Jasmine. Jasmine, you have a standalone pharmacology class. Definitely. What I recommend and always recommend is to make sure that you are studying the medications by pharmacologic class, therapeutic class, if you need to, preferably pharmacologic class, and then make sure that you are connecting the dots between everything. So I'm going to defer to the study system because we actually have all this listed out for you on page 22 of the Nursing school study system. So this is our step by step guide for how to study in nursing school. The nursing school study system. If you go to nursing schoolofsuccess.com study system, you can find that. Now what you will want to do, like I said, break down medications by pharmacologic class, therapeutic class if you need to, and then you need to connect the nursing considerations, the side effects, everything back to the mechanism of action. You must know the mechanism of action of the medication class. Must know the mechanism of action. The mechanism of action is how the drug acts in the body. Okay, so how, what is it doing? Like how does it act in the body? And then all of the medications within that drug class within that one pharmacologic class will have the same mechanism of action. And so instead of memorizing like 11 drugs inside one drug class, like memorizing all 11 individually, you can just memorize one of them. Then you automatically know the info you need to know for the other 10. Does that make sense? Medications are grouped by pharmacologic class or therapeutic class. If you memorize the mechanism of action, if you learn the mechanism of action of the drug class, then you will automatically know the mechanism of action for all the medications within that medication class. Solid. Perfect.
Great.
So that is on page 22. The nursing school study system actually might be on page 23 because it does go. Yeah, we talk about. Now that's on page 23. So we talk about medications and how to study pharmacology in the nursing school Study System, page 22 through 24. 4. So check it out.
Good deal.
There you go.
All right.
A little pharmacology high level overview, step by step.

There you go.
There you go.
All right. Jennifer's live. Nadria, who else had these questions? Someone else. A couple other people just said. Please. OBI tips. Tips for maternity and peeds. This is. Yeah, we, we've gotten a lot today and previous days about OB and maternity and peds specifically.
Yeah.
Any tips there?
Yep, absolutely. Of course I have tips there. Of course. Okay, so for maternity and pediatrics, you're going to want to focus on four main categories. Pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment and nursing interventions. Got it. Write Those down. The four things. Pathfinder signs and symptoms, nursing assessment and nursing interventions. Make sure you focus on those four main things. Maternity and ob, labor and delivery and pediatrics are similar to each other in that you will be learning a lot of like maternity complications, pediatric complications, disorders, you know, like gestational diabetes and all the, you know, the asd, all the pediatric, congenital heart, heart issues. Just a ton of different complications or disorders in the pediatric population and then the maternal population. So with that we basically just follow those four key things. Pathophysiology signs and symptoms, nursing assessment, and nursing interventions. You must focus on those four main things. Now, there are going to be certain topics that you will cover in pediatrics or maternity OB that you just need to straight up memorize. Things like the pediatric vaccination schedule or some things with infectious diseases you might just memorize. With maternity, it could be like the shape of the pelvis for optimal delivery. You know, there's just some things that you just straight up have to memorize. So for anything memorization, we really always recommend two things. Flashcards and whiteboards. Flashcards and whiteboards. I personally like to write things out over and over and over again, again and again and again. I very rarely go back through my flashcards once I've written them out. And when I say very rarely, I mean, like, never. Basically, flashcards for me are there to allow me to write things over and over and over again. That's all they are.
Therefore, yes, we have mountains of flashcards around here.
So thank you, Katie. Christina's four things. I love how you called it Christina's four things. That's fun. I have four things.
You do have four things.
That's exciting. Pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment, nursing interventions. Katie, that seriously made my day. You are awesome. Awesome. Thank you so much. Patho signs and symptoms, nursing assessment and nursing interventions. You've got to focus on those things. So in nursing school, you're going to learn a lot of stuff. Those are the four main things you have to focus on. Like, your instructors are going to throw a ton of stuff at you. Make sure you focus on those four main things. You will be golden. Cool. Cool.
Yeah. Paula. Hi, guys. Last time I watched your guys's life, I was studying for my interns. And today I just finished my last final. Great to see you. Great to see you too, Paula.
Hello, Paula.
Hooray.

Yeah.
My final past. My final past. My final.
Our community is really great, both inside the nursing SOS membership community and even out here on Instagram and Facebook and YouTube, just on our lives here. I mean, people hopping in and get. Helping each other out. We do have a really uplifting and supportive community around us, both in the membership and out here. So we really appreciate you guys.
Yeah, it's the best.
Yeah, for sure.
I know a lot of people say their communities are the best, but I can say without question, without question, hands down, ours is the best. Like the most supportive, incredible, the most helpful. It's just. It blows my mind. It goes back to. There was one post in the membership community that was kind of different because it was so funny. It was like a weekend or something and someone, someone posted in our Facebook group because they were having a hard time finding something in the membership community. And I looked and There were like 54 comments. Like 54. Like 54. Seriously. So many people chiming in saying, oh, here it is, here it is, here it is. You know, helping this person out. It's incredible. It's amazing. So I think it's so cool.
It's really cool. It is really cool.
Coolest community ever. That's what we do here.
Alyssa. Alyssa asking any tips for passing ATI exams? I keep seeing people say they are impossible to pass. I just want to jam on that for a little bit and then you can go on on your talk too.
But.
But I keep seeing people say they are impossible to pass. If they are impossible to pass, then no one's going to be a nurse.
That's what I was going to say.
Right. So. Oh yes, I. I did it.
You got it first.
I did it. I took the answer.
Let's be real friends. So listen to Matthew right now.
Keep seeing people say it's impossible to pass. Obviously. Obviously that's a little bit of an exaggeration. And by a little bit I probably mean a lot of. Bit of an exaggeration. It is not impossible to pass. So that's something that we can, we can jam about a little bit later. But just mindset and taking suggestions or comments that are helpful and also leaving the comments, suggestions that are not helpful to you to pass.
So.
So definitely it is possible. Pass. You'll be fine. But how to pass ATI exams?
Remember when I said all of your nursing school questions are in this book right here? Nursing School Study System. I was not kidding. You go download it right now. It's downloadable and printable nursing schoolofsuccess.com study system, ATI and HESI are on page 45. How can I pass ATI or HUSI exams? And my friends, I'm going to give you one huge tip. You must do the practice problems. I just, I cannot say it more times. I have heard more nursing students tell me, but at Christina, it's just busy work. It's just busy work. They're just giving us busy work, Doing all these practice tests, all these practice problems. It's just busy work. Like, I have so many other things to do. Friends, gotta tell you, it's not. Please, please do the practice problems. Prima Bella do ATI questions and modules and of course, nursing sos. And you are golden. Prima Bella. I was just thinking about you, Katie, yesterday. I hope you're doing amazing.
Katie was also saying, has the ATI tip. Practice questions, practice questions and more practice questions.
Yeah, it's absolutely true. Practice questions, practice questions, practice questions and more practice questions. Thank you, Katie. Oh, man, it is, it's. I know it's tough. I know it's tough to balance things. I know it's tough to, like, you know, do all these things all at once. But those practice questions, you do not want to skip. I have heard from more nursing students, like, I wish I did the practice questions. I know, I know friends do them. That's my biggest advice. The issue with nursing exams that are HESI or ATI based is that it is a test bank and your instructors don't necessarily know what's on them. And so it's like a wild card kind of thing. But here's the thing that I want you to know is that nursing content is nursing content is nursing content. Nursing content doesn't change whether or not you see it on our YouTube channel, Insider Membership Community, in your ATI book or on your ATI exam. Nursing content is nursing content is nursing content. Like standards of care are standards of care, right? So like, evidence based practice is evidence based practice. If you heard it here, you see it on your exam. If you hear it in your textbook, you see it on your exam, you see it in our video. You know, it's just, it's nursing content is nursing content. So I don't want you to get caught up with this idea that, oh, ATI exams are so hard because it's a test bank. It is a test bank. However, you're still studying the nursing content of which they derive that test bank from, right? So don't get caught up in that. It's just too, you know, It's. Don't let it throw you off. As long as you know the content, you will be just fine. And do the practice problems. Do the practice problem.
I think that's the key. That's it. That's the key takeaway for this one.
Do the practice problems.
Awesome. All right. Sj, Tim, Something else. It was on Instagram, so it was a really, really long name. So hopefully you guys are still watching. How can. What can I do now that I have failed this semester to hopefully help me get in next year?
What can I do now that I fail this semester? Help me. Okay. Help you get in, like, get in nursing school again or to succeed the next time, like in next year or so. I need a little more information.
Yeah, a little bit more information. Hopefully you can. You can add a little bit more. Yeah. So is it to do you need to reapply to get in and you're asking tips on. On that or just how to be successful next semester? What are things that you could do differently? So if you're still on, go ahead and give us a little bit more information and then we can go ahead and answer that. Oh, there you go. To succeed next time.
Okay. To succeed next time. Yes. This happens a lot. So if you are, you know, still in the program and you just want to make sure that you're going to pass next time, honestly, we don't see that a whole lot with students failing a second time. So if you did. If you did a term in nursing school and you didn't pass, like, you just barely, you know, didn't pass, I honestly wouldn't worry too much. So long as you are dedicated to. To succeeding the second time, you're not going to sabotage your own success by not studying. Make sure you are focused. Make sure you are not procrastinating. Make sure you are studying. That's the key, friends, for nursing school. That is the key. Do not get caught up in this idea that you cannot pass. If that were true, like Matthew said, there would be no nurses in the world if nursing school was impossible, none of us would be here right now. Right. Right. So make sure that you are taking what you learned already and stacking it up again. You know, stacking it, stacking on top of it. Other new information that you learn next term. Right now, you are in such a fantastic position because you're retaking a semester. You already know how that semester runs. You already know how it goes. You already know half the information, and now you just have to learn the other half. Right. You were in A fantastic position. So I honestly wouldn't put too much stress on yourself. Make sure you study, make sure you don't procrastinate. Just keep going, stay dedicated, you know, make sure that you are doing the best you can. I believe you can do it. Truly.
Yeah. Don't definitely don't beat yourself up about the failure. Failure is just moving forward. So yeah, it's just learning more and becoming the best nurse you can be. So don't beat yourself up because that will just prevent you from doing everything that Christina just said, studying more. So, yeah, I think that's great. I did want to go through that guy.
Let's do that a little bit. Okay.
All right, let me see here. Also for those just joining, welcome to Nursing School show. Real quick, Christina, I'm Matthew. You want to see more about more of us? Go ahead and hit subscribe. Yes. More so Christina than me. I just hang around and pretend to help.
Is a first attempt in learning F.
A. I know how to spell I. L. There you go. I like that.
First attempt in learning. Oh, I didn't realize that.
Yes.
That's fun. I love it. Brenda, shout out to you. Brenda's the real MVP Failure. First attempt in learning. Amen, friend.
All right, Jammy. Hi. Hello. I'll be starting my program in January and I'm a nursing SOS member. Hello.
Hello.
My first two classes are fundamental and nursing nutrition. Notice there that nursing nutrition is not in the membership community. Do you plan on adding it anytime soon?
It is there.
Can you help with APA formats? All my papers are going to be based on that and I'm not really good at it either. So all those. This is again for nursing SOS specific member. But this will probably help everyone as well. So I just want to program in January. So I just want to start on the first thing. Our very first conversation at the beginning of this live. First thing to start for new nursing students starting in January is dose calc. So focus on dose calc. We were talking about that a little earlier. Not sure if you were with us then, but rule number one, since you're starting in January, dose calc. Everything Dose calc.
You know what we should do? We should get a finger like the number one. Like the, like what you see, like baseball teams and stuff and like, you know. Right. Rule number one.
I usually just use that to poke people.
But rule number one, dose calc. Okay. And. Oh yeah, all Right.
So yes, dose calc, dose calc, dose calc and then your other part. So my first two classes are Fundamentals and Nursing Nutrition. Is nutrition among in the nursing SOS membership community?
Yes, it is. So here's what my. Okay, so two things. It's Jamie, right? Jimmy.
Jimmy. Jimmy.
Oh yeah, you're sorry. Matthew. Shirt is dark and so it's kind of hard to like read these Facebook comments. Okay, there we go. Okay, Jamie, so here's the thing. When you get into your nursing program, what you will notice is the topics that you're learning might just be under a different name than the Nursing Associates membership community. Or like, if you're looking for the word nutrition, like. Well, we actually do. I think it is called nutrition, I don't remember.
But the nursing or SOS membership community is divided by courses and sometimes the course name doesn't align with the course name in your nursing program.
Right. So look under the fundamentals course. We've got tons of Fundamentals videos and we just released more last week. Was it last week, right?
It was last week. We did release a lot more videos.
A lot more videos for Fundamentals. So all you friends going into Fundamentals, we have so many new videos for you inside the membership community. So many. So Nursing Nutrition is among those. It's so it's in the fundamentals course. That's where you're going to want to look. It's in Fundamentals. On the topic of APA formatting. Yes, we can help with that. I have one huge resource to give to you. It's owl. Perfect. Purdue. Write that down. O W L Purdue University. It's University, right? Purdue University. So it's their online writing lab. OWL O W L Online writing lab at Purdue. So what you can do is just Google APA formatting, OWL Purdue or APA sample paper. OWL Purdue is what I would do because they have a fantastic resource for apa. Also, as a nursing SOS member, Jemmy, what I want you to do is go to Bonuses, click on the bonus course and submit a tutoring form anytime you have questions. So if you have questions on nutrition, if you have questions on fundamentals or apa, go there, submit a tutor form, ask your question and a nurse on our team will get back to you within 24 hours. It's amazing. Like, seriously, if you're scared to talk to your nursing instructors or don't know who to ask, ask us. That's why we're here. So to answer your question, yes, nursing nutrition. Nutrition is covered inside the Nursing SS membership Community is under the fundamentals course. And then apa. Of course, we can help you out with that. Just submit a tutor form and then also I will. Purdue. For all of you guys who are not nursing SOS members. Owl, Purdue, apa. This is what we're looking at.
Great.
What we're looking at. I got my membership. Love it. Awesome. Share some notes with my classmates. She said they're awesome. I'm so glad. Uniquely created 3. Love your handle, by the way.
Linda from YouTube just said, Try to download the study system. It is not free. That is correct. It is. It is not free.
It is not free.
Yep.
So the nursing school study system is available for you to purchase. Now, if you wanted a free cheat sheet, we do have those. We have a whole cheat sheet library. If you go to nursing schoolofsuccess.com forward/signup S I G N U P, you can access all of our cheat sheets there. That for free.
And again, if you guys are new to us and want to learn a little bit more about us and see more of Christina's teaching style, go ahead and go to boot camp.
Yes.
Nursingschoolofsuccess.com Boot camp.
Boot camp.
To learn boot campy things.
Boot campy. Nursing school. Boot camp. We just walk through more study tips for you on that boot camp.
There we go.
The top three study mistakes you are making in nursing school that I do not want you to make. That's what we talked about.
Let me see here.
Good morning, Instagram. Where's Charlotte? I don't know. Where is Charlotte? We've got Brenda back. Hello, Brenda. Where is Charlotte? Where is my Charlotte this morning?
Let me see here.
She's gonna come on and be like, I'm here.
Bunch bunch of more comments. All right, this is great. Thank you guys for joining.
Oh, that's a good one. Oh, sorry.
All right, we'll do Paula's first and then we'll circle around on that one. Paula, any tips for memorizing lab values? Making fun stories seem to help other people. What worked for you?
Lab values.
Yeah, lab values. Memorizing lab values.
Yeah, again, as you go. So, okay, can you. This is Paula, right?
Yeah.
Memorizing lab values. Making fun stories. Yeah, I mean, making fun stories is always fun and exciting with lab values. This is one of those things that sometimes you just have to memorize because the numbers. Right. You just have to memorize it. So this is also kind of goes back with pharmacology. If you are trying to rote memorize lab values. It's Going to be a lot more difficult than if you were to learn them as you have patients on the floor. So, you know, just making sure that when you have patients, whatever in SIM lab, if you're in SIM or if you're actually at a facility, long term care facility or hospital or wherever, clinic, make sure that you are, you know, looking at people's lab values and connecting the lab value to the patient. You know, that you understand why their lab values are the way they are. That's really going to help you to learn them faster, those lab values. So let's make sure that, you know, if you need to wrote. I keep saying rote memorize. I think that's a thing. Rote memorize, memorization, rote memorize. If you need to do that, then do it that way. Flashcards, whiteboards, like we talk about. But also it's just going to be really, really helpful for you if you connect it to your patient. Connect it to your patient. So I hope that helps. Paula, was that helpful?
So rote memorization, I think we mentioned earlier on this live white birds, repetition, flashcards, repetition, lots of repetition. Yeah. If you tie it to an actual example or a patient, that, that could help too. As far as the funny stories, anything that is really odd or outlandish, we tend to remember. So if you do need to actually rote memorize by thinking up stories or thinking up examples, the more outlandish the stories are examples, the more likely you are to remember it. So.
Absolutely.
Just another, another tip for memorization. But yeah, sometimes you just have to have to memorize those things.
Yeah. So how was your eye, Matthew?
Yes, how is my eye? I laughed. I laughed. What do you think? Is it still there?
So if you guys were here.
My eye is still here, by the way.
But yes, Wednesday, because today's Monday. If you were here last Wednesday with us, you would have seen Matthew's eye was like completely, just completely swollen.
It was not cool. If you want to look, it was on our. Yeah, our previous live. So go ahead and after this live.
You can jump on and look so you can see. I mean, he's still, it's still a little bit swollen.
Still a little bit swollen. Still. What we asked last Wednesday on what everyone thought it was, we still don't know.
I mean, this has been years. Like we've been dealing with this. Like every few months he gets this thing. I don't know. Like also it's like the weird bubbles in, in your retina too, which we, I meant to say on the last live like he has to have like laser.
Laser treatment, cold laser therapy or something.
Cold laser therapy?
Yeah, something like that.
Yeah. Yeah, that sounds familiar. Yeah, but some laser kind of thing where they basically they.
They burn my eye.
They burn his eye. So they inject into him a medication, fancy medication, and it reacts with a laser and the bubble gets like disintegrated.
Yeah, it's to close up. I get little holes, I guess behind my retina and fluid stuff comes in there and pushes my retina up, which causes all sorts of fancy things. So what that therapy does is it closes up that hole and allows the fluid to drain. And they do that by injecting me with something that reacts to a specific type of light. And so that's what that laser is. It's a laser, but it's really just the light that reacts, it burns the hole shut. And because it's so reactive after I do that, I cannot go out in sunlight. Yeah. Or else I get instant third degree burns. So that's fun too, right?
So crazy. So yeah, he has to be completely like. He wears like gloves.
I become a vampire for a little bit. It's kind of cool.
You can't go in sunlight like when you've gotten that, that particular medication. Instant third degree burns.
Yes.
If you go out in UV light, it's crazy to me.
It's pretty crazy.
Crazy. So anyway, that's all the things about Matthew.
Thank you for asking, by the way.
Yeah.
And in return we're going to answer your question. Does the edition matter for the Davis's drug guide?
Yes, the addition matters for the Davis drug guy. Yes, it's Davis's.
He's gonna get mad that we're not giving him the proper credit. His name is David.
It is. It's not David, it's Davis.
Davis. It could be David Davis. Who knows? I do not know.
Davis Drug Guide.
Davis's Drug Guide.
Davis's Drug Guide. So this, the edition does matter. This is a few years ago. This is not even the updated one. If I'm. If I. Wow, Christine, you have a lot of books. This, I don't think. I think this was last year's. I think there's a newer one. So I don't know what color the new one is. Might be maybe, who knows? I don't know what the color is for this year, but it's not one of these. I'm pretty sure this is the old edition now.
Is this the old edition now? It keeps changing. So keep going and looking to get the most updated up to Date version of Davis's drug guide.
And here's why I say that. Because this is the older version, the green one, this is the newer version, the purple one. And look at the difference. The green one is so much thinner. It's so much thinner. It's crazy. So you know, they add, they add, they add medications, they add things to it. They take things away, all of those things, you know. Yeah, there's some medications pulled from market. You know, new medications are added. The new one is turquoise. This is not the new one.
We'll need to get that one.
So the new one is probably what, 17th, 17th edition. The 16th. And this was last year. So do make sure that you have the updated one. There you go.
Awesome.
Yay.
Kimberly, how can I get into the Membership Nursing SOS Membership Community? Go ahead and go to NurseSchoolSuccess.com join and you can sign up there to be the first notified when it is open again.
Boom. There we go.
Liliana, I. Hello. I am a nursing SOS member going to second semester. I had the hardest time with my care plan. Do you what books? Or do you have books that you could recommend for care care plans?
Why yes I do. Let me find the updated one right here. Nursing Diagnosis Handbook. So Liliana, you probably saw already in the membership community we have a care plan course. I really hope you went through that. Did you? Because I walk you through in that course. Step by step, how to Acer care plans in nursing school. It's so, so good friends. Step by step, how to write care plans. So inside the nursing SOS membership community, go to your dashboard and then it's like, I don't know, maybe the fourth course down. It's Care Plans Care Plan course. Click that. Watch the videos. So good. But this is the book I recommend. It's the Nursing Diagnosis Handbook by Ackley and Ladwig. This will save your life.
There you go. Carly Ackley. Yep.
Woohoo.
Perfect.
It basically writes your care plans for you. Literally not kidding you. It has the full diagnosis, like all the NANDA diagnoses here in the front that you need and then each one is broken down throughout the entire book. So they give you patient goals, they give you nursing interventions, they give you rationales for it, they help you with your PES statement for the nursing diagnosis statement. It, when I say it writes your care plans for you. That is not an exaggeration. Genuinely does. So this is the one I recommend. Screenshot. This ready? Screenshot.
Creeper.
Screenshot. Screenshot. Share it with your friends. Yeah, yeah. Screenshot this. Post it up on Instagram for all your friends to. To see.
Wait a minute.
Everyone needs this.
The Ackley book comes in a pocket size.
Oh, no. That is exciting. Prima Bella. I did not know that this came in a pocket size. I will need to look into that. Thank you.
Wow.
Wow.
Cool. Must be a pretty big pocket.
That's what I was just thinking. We're like the same person.
That's a really big pocket. Guys.
Just.
That's funny. Travis just finished nursing school, but I just wanted to drop by. I love your videos. Great. And quick and to the point. Thanks, Travis. I know I did all of them. Not. That was her. That was all Christina.
He edits the videos.
I do edit them. So, yes, that is. Our goal is to help you guys be efficient with your studying so you can do other things too.
Because, like, we like doing other things too.
Or watching. Watching us on YouTube. See those kind of things. The important things in life.
We're here for the important things in life.
Rachel was saying, I'm hoping to get into nursing program fall 2021. When should I get on the wait list? I don't know how often you open your membership and don't want to miss it.
Get on the waitlist now. That's the answer. So next year, we are opening the membership a lot less than normal. Simply because we're so focused on our members and we have a lot going on in the membership community and friends. It's a lot to, like, open membership and get new members in. It's a lot of work. It is so much work for us. To be honest with you. I would. It's. I would just rather focus on our members that are in there putting out new courses and, you know, just giving you as much value as possible inside the membership community. So with that opening a lot less than normal for us next year in 2021, make sure you get on the wait list and make sure you join now. Who is this? This was Rachel. Right.
Rachel. Fall 2021 is when you were planning on starting. So.
So you would want to try to join within one to two months of your start date for the membership. So, I mean, we. We do not have this schedule. We actually don't really pre plan these things, to be honest with you. People ask us all the time, when are you opening again? And I can clearly tell you I don't know because we don't have a plan. But we do usually open for fall.
We do. Yeah.
So I wait until the fall.
Yeah. So get on the. Get on the Wait list. So you can still get some tips and other things that we, we like to email also. Just continue, continue watching us here. But yeah, definitely get on the waitlist. So you, you get that email and then, yeah, closer to that time, within one to two months around there, it'll probably be on the, probably be opening.
Two months side, most likely.
You can do that. Yeah.
There you go.
Gary, what is the cost to join sos? I would join the wait list. And current.
Currently it's. Can I say the current price? Because I mean.
Well, that's the thing is that it, it really changes.
It does not change.
Well, it does not change. It goes up.
It only goes up.
So currently, yeah, you can.
Currently it's 39 per month or 3.90 per year. But that might not be the case this, this upcoming year for 2021. So we will open like, we will let you know if the price is going to increase so you can join at the current price and lock in your price. So like current members, your price is never going to increase.
Correct.
Your price will never increase if you are inside the membership community. But if you have not joined yet, you know, who knows, in the future it might go up. But for now it's $39 a month or 390 per year. But I do want to keep reiterating. If you are a nursing associate, your price will not increase. It will never increase. Never ever, ever. You are locked in. There you go.
Good.
Cool.
Let me see. Oh, I like this one. And I don't know the answer to this one. Are there any practice tips for stitching?
For stitching. You know, the first thing I was thinking of was sewing. No, I don't know how to sew. No, we don't have like skills videos or anything with that. With. Okay, so here's the thing. That's a nurse practitioner thing. Typically it depends on your scope of practice and what state you're in and where you're practicing. But you know, like suturing and stuff. It depends on where you are. So. No, we do not.
We don't. Have you seen any.
I mean, just I'm sure on YouTube is somewhere. Yeah, I'm sure.
Yeah. So, Shayla, I just wanted to say that even though I'm going for OT instead of nursing, this channel has still helped me.
That's fun. Congratulations and good luck in your OT program. That's super exciting. Yeah. All right, my friends, we will see you Wednesday, right?
Today's Monday, so yes, Wednesday we will see you at 9am Pacific.
Join the boot camp. Nursingschoolofsuccess.com forward/bootcamp.

There we go.
You're gonna love it. All right, my friends, take care. See you later. Bye. Bye.
Bye.
Wednesday, 9am let's do it.
