NURSING TEST TAKING STRATEGIES (PART 5)

In this final video of a five‑part series, Christina Rafano emphasizes a core test‑taking strategy for nursing students: never rely on personal or anecdotal experience when answering NCLEX‑style questions. She explains that exam scenarios are idealized, textbook cases where patients follow exact developmental or disease patterns. Rafano walks through a sample developmental assessment question from the NCLEX RN Mastery app, demonstrating how to identify the correct answer (the inability to stand for two seconds at 15 months) by focusing solely on textbook knowledge. Throughout, she promotes the NCLEX RN Mastery app—providing an affiliate link—and urges viewers to subscribe, hit the notification bell, and trust her recommendations. The video blends instructional content with motivational encouragement and a commercial endorsement.

So the nursing test taking strategy we're going to talk about in this video is that you cannot, I repeat, you cannot use your past experience to answer nursing exam questions. Nursing Exam question world is a perfect world. And all patients follow the exact textbook patterns for the disorders that they have. All kiddos follow the developmental stages to a T. And you have unlimited time and resources to take care of all your patients. So when you look at a nursing exam question, you cannot bring in your past experiences, a cna, an emt, a mom, or that one time your best friend's grandma was out of breath and you rushed her to the hospital and they did some crazy procedure. No, do not bring your past experience into your nursing exam. Your nursing exam is a perfect world. Patients are textbook cases. So what do I mean by this? Now let's walk through an example Nursing exam question. Now this exam question comes from the nclex RN Mastery app. And this is the app that I personally used through nursing school to help me ace my nursing school classes. So there is that affiliate link down below in the description if you would like to snag it. It will help you out A ton. A ton, A ton. So like I said, the nursing test taking strategy that we're going to talk about is that you cannot use your past experience to answer nursing exam questions. So let's read an example exam question. The nurse is performing a developmental assessment of a 15 month old. Which of the following findings is of the most unable to say three words, unable to stand for two seconds, unable to run or unable to put on clothing. Oh baby, I hear all the mamas out there already saying, well my son was running around everywhere at nine months old. So of course if that little baby can't run at 15 months, something is wrong. Honey, no. Stop right there. Do not compare a nursing exam baby with any other baby out there. Not your own, not your niece, not that little baby down the street that you've been worried about since you started your pediatric clinical rotation. I know you know what I'm talking about. Do not bring your past experience into your nursing school exam. It will take you down. So you're only going to think about what you learned in class and from your textbook to select the best answer. And for this specific question, the best answer is number two, unable to stand for two seconds. That is the textbook correct developmental stage that should have been accomplished long before 15 months. And that is your nursing test taking strategy to help you out with nursing exams. Do not use your past experience to answer nursing exam questions. And friend, make sure that you snag the NCLEX RN Mastery app to get access to thousands, and I mean thousands, of nursing exam questions like this one. This app is awesome.
