In this video, we're diving into the best way to prepare for nursing school. If you're just starting out or if you're starting a new term, this video is for you. Nursing school is tough and there is a lot that you can do to set yourself up for success early, even before the term begins. Trust me, you don't want to feel behind that first week of the term. So I'm gonna go through my best tips for you here in this video to help you get prepared and read Rock Nursing School. Now hit that subscribe button and click the notification bell and let's dive in. My first tip for you is to get all of your clinical requirements done. Seriously. I saw this happen too many times in nursing school. Students would wait to get all of their clinical requirements done, like update their vaccinations, do their background checks, or update their BLS certification. Now, most clinical sites will require you to have some some documentation completed before you start clinicals there. You don't want to miss a day or two of clinical because you didn't get all of that paperwork in. So get it done early. Even before the term starts. You'll probably get an email either from your school or from your clinical site that you'll be at that lists all of the requirements that you need to complete. So seriously friend, get those done asap. You don't want to have to do them during the first few weeks of the term on top of everything else you have going on now. The next tip is to get organized. And there are three things that I highly, highly recommend that you do before the term starts. Organize your desk or workspace or wherever you plan on studying. Clean and organize your house and plan ahead for meals. Pick a quiet place to study, preferably somewhere in your house since you're usually there the most. It's more convenient and organize it. Make sure that you have everything there that you need need. Like all your books, all your textbooks, highlighters, notebook paper, whiteboards, flashcards, all of the things. Just make sure that it's all stocked with everything that you need so you don't need to go chasing things around once school starts. You'll also want to clean and organize your house since you're on a break now. It's the perfect time to clean your house and get everything set up now so that you don't need to worry about deep cleaning your carpets during nursing school. So make sure that your your kitchen is clean, your bathroom, the shower, clear off the dining room table, even organize your kids rooms if you have the energy for that just make sure that it's not a total disaster. You don't want to be studying for a major exam and look around your house to see it's super messy. That will just add on to your stress. So take the opportunity to clean up now before school starts. Now of course, if you have kiddos especially, especially little kiddos, your house will get messy every day. That's totally fine. There's a difference between a messy house and a dirty house. Just make sure that your house isn't dirty and then that will go a long way for you. And maybe even the most beneficial time saving thing that you can do before nursing school starts is to plan ahead for meals. I did this all throughout nursing school where we would plan our menu so we always knew what we were eating and when. Just takes all of the guesswork out of dinner time and it saves you from those last minute trips to the grocery store. We have like six crock pots and those are what I used for the vast majority of our meals during nursing school. And even now it is so easy since I can just plop dinner in and leave it there all day to cook. It's really set it and forget it. Which is a huge blessing in nursing school. When you are crunched on time, make a list of your favorite recipes and schedule them out for at least the first two weeks of the term. That way you know what you're having and when. And you only need to make one shopping trip in a week to get all of the groceries, which is a huge time and stress saver. Now let's talk about how to get a jump start on the first two weeks of the term. But before we dive into that, I want to give a shout out to BETH for our YouTube comment of the week which says love, love, love. Thank you. I'm finishing my first semester and ending with fluid and nutrition. This was so much easier to understand than 30 of reading. Thanks so much for your comment, Beth. I am so happy to hear that our videos have helped you a lot. I know there's a ton of reading in nursing school, so I am so glad that our videos helped you to condense it and understand it better and keep your comments coming. Not only do they tell YouTube that our videos are cool and that more nursing students should see them, but they make me smile. So thank you. Now the next major thing you'll want to do before the nursing school term starts is to get a head start on the first first two weeks. Now I have two different recommendations for this depending on what your situation is if you are just starting nursing school. I never recommend that you try to work ahead on coursework right now before nursing school starts. You don't know what you don't know, you don't know how things are going to run at your school, you don't know the basics of nursing and your brain is going to explain explode with new information in the first two weeks. So I don't recommend that you try to work ahead because you just don't know what to focus on. But I do recommend that you learn how to answer med, math or dosage calc questions that will be a huge stress saver for you when you start nursing school. Learn how to do dimensional analysis like I talk about here in this video and you will be golden for your dose calc exam. Now if you've already gone through a term or two of nursing school and you have a pretty good handle on how your school does things and operates, that's when you can start to work ahead on your coursework. So when I was in nursing school I would look at our course syllabus a week or so before the term started and I would get as much of the work done as possible before the term started. It was not uncommon for me to write full research papers before the term even started. It just saved me so much time and stress since I didn't need to write a paper and go to clinicals and and study for those exams. I already had it done before the term started. If your school doesn't give you a syllabus before the term starts, ask an upperclassman what you'll be studying and what papers you'll need to write. So even if you can't write a full research paper before the term starts, at least you'll have a good idea of what you will be doing that term which will help decrease your overwhelm. Now if you want to get a head start on your study plan for the new term, make sure to download your nursing school Study checklist where I walk you through my step by step process for how to study.
