Ischemic strokes happen when a blood clot blocks a brain vessel. Hemorrhagic strokes occur when a blood vessel ruptures and bleeds. A TIA is a brief ischemic event that may cause temporary or no symptoms.

There are three different types of stroke an ischemic stroke, a hemorrhagic stroke, and a transient ischemic attack, or a tia. An ischemic stroke is when there is a blood clot in one of the vessels supplying the brain with blood, which then causes decreased blood perfusion to that area. A hemorrhagic stroke is another type of stroke where a blood vessel in the brain actually breaks and blood is not only leaking out into the brain, but it's also unable to properly perfuse the area of the brain that was supposed to. A transient ischemic attack, or a TIA for short, is a small mini ischemic stroke that can cause symptoms that resolve in a short amount of time or no symptoms at all.
