What to do if you FAIL AN EXAM!

Matthew and Christina Rafano walk nursing students through what to do after failing an exam. They outline a four-step plan: feel your disappointment, document how you studied, meet with your instructor to review, and adjust your methods. Passing grades are enough to graduate, and many successful nurses had mid-range marks.

Exam, what to do if you fail.
An exam or anything really.
That is a name. That is the title of this YouTube Live.
And Instagram.
Live and Instagram.
Not forgetting about our Instagram.
Sorry, not forgetting about Instagram.
How do you get like a. A white heart on Instagram versus a purple heart versus a red heart? Like, how does that work? I Wonder?
And then YouTube. Just post up heart emojis of various.
Colors and send up some likes on YouTube.
And while we're doing that, while we're getting going, let us know. Let us know when your exam is going. Let's see. How do I want to ask this? When's your next exam or if you recently had an exam? Let us know. And if you know how you did, let us know how you did too.
Yes.
Hi, watching from the Philippines.
Hello, you say hello, my people.
Hello, my people.
Emily. Hello. Durham, North Carolina.
Tina from South New Jersey.
Wyoming. Ashley.
Awesome.
Hello, my friend.
Welcome, everyone.
We're neighbors.
Hey, Gabby. So I did try something a little new in YouTube live today. I hopefully the delay is not as far. So not as long. Not as far, not as long.
Oh, okay, so we'll see. Was there a delay on.
Oh, there's a little bit.
Oh, yeah. Between us talking Texas.
South Texas. Welcome, welcome.
See, now we're going to have to watch Miss Congeniality because isn't it like Texas? How he says Texas and California? Do you guys know what I'm talking about? Okay, that's like, how old is this Congeniality? Like the.
It is not like, Wasn't that like 2004? It is not a new movie.
2005. Yeah.
Hey, tuning in from Virgin Islands.
It's Australian. We always get some Australians up in here. I love this.
Awesome.
That is great.
Hey, I'm not going to try any.
We have a lot of nursing associ members who are in Australia. So fun. Love it.
All right, so Instagram is. Instagram's chiming in. YouTube question I asked, while we're getting going, when is your next exam? Or did you just have an exam? And how'd you guys do?
I answered you. Oh, yes.
Yep.
First fundamentals test was a bust, unfortunately.
All right.
But it will be better next time, right? Okay, so we're gonna talk about that.
We will be talking about that. So let us know.
Planning to take it on. Take it in May. Taking it twice. Loma Linda. Hello. Loma Linda. We know where that is.
I know where that is.
We know where Loma Linda is. Next one on March 9th. Okay, so it's February. But February is a weird month. Everyone knows that. So, like, February ends prematurely.
It just decided that it had enough.
How far until March 9th? Is that like a week? We're talking two weeks.
March 3rd for Med Surge. Rochelle had my first exam for fundamentals and scored E2 highest in my cohort of 10. Awesome. Congratulations.
Small in your class. So, like, in your COHORT you have 10 people. How many students are in your guys's cohorts? That is really a great question. Interesting, interesting. Ashley Patho on Friday.
Okay.
Yep, yep. Is that your midterm? Right. Second fundamentals test tomorrow. Okay, so what day is it? Today's Wednesday. Okay, Ashley, you've got a couple more days. 30 and 33. 27. Okay, that's. That was like.
Oh, is that the number of how many people are in your cohort?
Yeah, 30. So, yeah, I. We had 30. Ish, I think.
Cohort of 10.
Yeah.
You guys are a close knit group right there.
Yeah. 19. Emily. Yeah, that's. That's pretty. That is pretty small. Is thinking. Ted is definitely small. That's like, oh, I don't think I've ever heard of 10 in a. But that's cool because then you really get to know people and really get to know your instructors, I guess, too. But even 30 is pretty small. I don't know. I didn't think. I mean, I remember being in some college classes for prereqs that are like 100 people.
Oh, well, yeah, Prereqs is the.
Like when you take your biology or something.
The weed out classes. Is that still a thing?
The weed out. Is that what they call it?
Like, it starts with like 100 people and it ends with like two.
Oh, well, not that. Not that they would say that's what nursing school is. The weed out classes. No, not too much.
Six.
Six. Wow. That is a very small. That is a very small cohort. Yes. How many graduated in your cohort? Okay, that is a great question. Yvette. A great question.
Oh, how many graduated?
Oh, yes, we started with most. Most of. I mean, the vast majority of them. And actually kind of interesting, too, because it kind of ebbs and flows because some. Some students, you know, got pregnant and wanted to take a quarter off or term off to have their baby.
Yeah, that's.
And then they came in the cohort or two after us and still, you know, so they still graduated. You know, it wasn't like they failed out or anything.
And then people from past cohorts. So, like, your cohort changes through the.
Yes, exactly. So, like, you get some people that left from a court cohort or two ahead of you that are now in yours, and then some from yours are in, you know, the following. So it was interesting. We had one gal who had, like, a big family emergency issue come up where she had to actually go, you know, she had to. She had to leave the area to go take care of family. So then she came back, I think, the. The term after us. And then. So, you know, she still graduated. Yeah. You know, so things happen like that. I don't. I'm sure some. I'm sure. I don't. I don't actually remember one person failing out, like, legit failing out. I don't remember one person legit feeling out. We had several people who got to fundamentals and did their first, like, you know, IM injection and were like, nope, not doing the whole blood thing, you know. So we had one gal went into social work. The other one just decided to leave nursing altogether. It wasn't for her. So, you know, there's just different. Different reasons, I guess. So, like, I guess this question of what do you do if you fail? You know, I don't think, like, when we think of, like, failing out of nursing school, maybe that does kind of encapsulate all of those, but that's not considered, like, failing out. Like, when we taught. When we say, like, failing an exam or like, failing out of nursing school, like, that means that you actually wanted to be there. And it's like, you know, you tried and.
Yeah, well, I wouldn't consider it failing out or, like, if you just decide on another path. I don't.
Yeah, that's not. That's not.
I don't think that's. That's in the realm of failing out. People change their mind. People's lives change.
That's fine. It's.
It's cool.
Danzam. That's how we did it, too. Oh, 60 people in a cohort, though. That's a lot. But, yeah, for OB and PEDs, we did. That was one term, and then we had OB the first part, and then peds the second part. And then, like, it would just flip.
It would switch. Yeah. If it just wasn't for you and you decided to take another career path or just. Yeah. Take a break indefinitely, then.
Taking a break indefinitely. It's funny, actually. Really, really funny. There is a. Where I. I know a gal who went to nursing school, started a nursing school and decided it was not for her. And then she started a scrub shop. So she. She's kind of in. So I was, like, talking with her, and she's like, yeah, the whole blood thing, not for me. She's like, but I know all the nurses around, you know, like, I know all the nurses because everyone goes to get their scrubs from her, which. So that was kind of funny. So she went from nursing school to opening a scrub shop. So that's really, really, really cool.
It's adjacent.
It's adjacent. Yeah.
That's funny.
I thought it was really cool. Like, wow, that's really creative, actually. That's really cool.
All right, what to do if you fail an exam. So anyone willing to share whether they've gone through this already, Whether you have failed an exam and how'd you feel and what'd you do?
What'd you do? Yes.
How'd you feel, what'd you do? And how can we improve upon it?
So I was telling.
Or not.
So, okay, who's a nursing SOS member? Raise your hand. So Nicole and I, we had our coaching call today. If you're in our membership community. Nursing SOS membership community. We do our coaching calls every Wednesday. And so I was actually talking to Nicole about this today on our coaching call for our members that I. Do you remember this? I had an exam once. It was a neuro exam, which is terrible in med surge. And I totally forgot to study half of this stuff. So I got to the exam, and literally I was taking the exam, and it's like, half the questions. I'm like, I don't. I didn't study this at all. Do you remember that? I don't know if you remember that, but yeah, I completely, like, lost my notes for whatever classes those were that we did on, like, that half of the neuro and got to the exam. It's like, nope, okay, well, that was a really bad grade. It happens. So for me, maybe note organization would have been nice to have after that.
All right. And also to tack onto that. So you said, yeah, it will happen. So continue to Study. I cried. It will happen. Yes. All those things. So, yeah, what to do shall pass. What to do if you fail your exam. So I think. I think crying can be appropriate.
Yes. So great. Let it out. It's fine. And I had a lot in nursing school. How much did I cry in nursing school? Like, a lot. You tend to be pretty emotionally unstable, I think. I think that if there's anything in life that's going to bring that out of you, it's. Yeah, yeah. Nursing school is definitely.
I can see that. I can see that. I did want to expand the topic slightly. Chondelle's talk about. I feel like in the beginning you're a failure with the low grades because of the expectations of higher. How do you mentally deal with the pressure when you're not used to low grades? So how I want to expand this is not just failing. What do you do if you failing exam? I don't think that. That I want to expand it on. If you get a grade that you were not expecting a lower grade than you were expecting, because, yes, I know that you guys, a lot of you are overachievers or like to chase those grades and type A personality. Yeah, type A personality. And so when you come across these classes that are hard, difficult, genuinely, and you're used to getting these higher grades and suddenly, not necessarily that you're failing, but you were expecting something else. You were expecting that your grades be at one level, and now it's not. So that's where I want to expand it to. Not just failing, but if you get this grade that is different than your expectations, what do you do with that?
And it's so hard, too, because, like, we, a lot of us are that, like, overachiever type A personality, where it's like. And coming out of Prereqs, too, when you're in Prereqs, it's a very different way of studying in prereqs than it is in nursing school. So it can be a tough transition to go from Prereqs to nursing. So because you're just not used to it, it's. It's a different way of thinking. It's a different way of studying and just doing things in general. So if you're used to A's in, like, anatomy and physiology and microbiology and your psychology class and statistics and all those things, the prereqs, and then you come into nursing school and you're expecting A's. Like, that can be a bummer when you start getting B's and C's. Right out of the gate. You know, it's. It's definitely difficult. So I think it's really important. I hate to say this, but the whole C's get degrees thing, it's true. I mean, maybe not C's. Depending on your nursing program, it might be B's, like B minuses or B's. B's get degrees. So really, like, no one, none of your patients are ever going to ask you, hey, what was your GPA in nursing school? Nobody's ever gonna ask you that. It does not matter. Graduating is graduating. Being licensed is being licensed. You know, does not matter if you got straight A's. It does not matter if you got B's and some A's or B's and some C's. That's what your school allows. Whatever is passing is passing. Passing is passing.
Now, you want to try your best, obviously, and do your best, but, yeah, definitely reevaluate expectations and see where you're at. And don't be too hard on yourself on the grades that you do get. And also, kind of side story, it is in the medical profession, but it is for doctors. But I'm sure it applies to nurses, too. They did do a study about the GPAs of the best doctors around, and you would think that it's, oh, the ones that got A's and past flying colors, but it was not. It's actually more of the midline or almost failing.
Yeah, the almost failing doctors that.
That were the most personal doctors that were the best in their fields. And I'm sure it applies to nursing, too, because it's interesting. It's really those people that. That group that learns and really cares about the profession.
They're personable.
Yes.
You know, like, they're personable. They have the good bedside manner.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So definitely think about that. And yeah, if. If your expectation is A's or beyond A's, I guess you can get over 4.0s nowadays. I wasn't sure if that was a thing back in the day, but yeah, yeah, depending on your expectations, just. Just realign that with. With how you're doing. And again, we're not saying not to try your best. Obviously, try your best, but also go easy on yourself, too.
Yeah, for sure. And Dan, Dan Zam. Yes. I am so glad that Yvette, you jumped in. That is really, really tough to miss passing by 1%. That is not the first time I've heard that, though.
So.
No, just please, please know that if you didn't pass an exam, if, you know, you guys have the experience of having, you know, feeling out of your nursing program. You're not the only one. You know, we. We do hear that quite a bit from nursing students, and I've heard exactly that same story quite a few times where you just, like, barely. Barely, you know, barely fail out. And it's not a good feeling. That does not feel good. But a couple of things, okay? So two things. Your journey is not somebody else's journey. So don't compare yourself to somebody else, right? If you don't do as well on an exam as you wanted to, or, you know, you. You have to, you know, take a step back out of the program and, you know, start again, totally fine. Don't compare your. Your journey to someone else. Like, your journey is your journey, their journey is their journey, and it doesn't make you bad. It doesn't make them good. It's just. It's just how it is. It's just all neutral. Okay? And. Okay, maybe I have three things. The. The only way to really fail in nursing school is if you quit, right? So if you fail out of your program and are like, forget it, you know, I'm done with this, you know, throw my textbooks out, like, that is really. That would be really, in my mind, in my opinion, considering, like, that's a real fail, right? Like, if you're not even gonna try again. So the only way that you are not going to become a nurse is. Is if you quit, right? So just keep going, right? So you're starting your new program, graduating. That's next year. Okay. Yay. Figure out what year it is. That's fantastic. I'm so happy for you that you decided to try again. So then the third thing that goes into that is that you are not starting from scratch. If you fail an exam, if you fail a term, if you fail out of your program, what we often hear is the fear from nursing students that, oh, shoot, I failed out of my class or I failed out of my program. That means I'm more likely to fail out again. No, that's not the case. Because what we see oftentimes is that you are, you know, you know most of it already, right? Like, you've already done. You've done that class. You've done the program. You know, you know, you know, you know the nursing process. You know, you know how to study. You know, you kind of have your study process together. You know so much of the information already, right? Depending on how far you are in your program, you know so much of it. So you're not Starting from zero. You're actually starting. You know, you were at zero and now you're like, here. And so now we just have to get you there. You know, you just, you just got a little bit more to go. You're gonna be great. So you're not. Even if you don't pass an exam or don't pass your class or don't pass your program, that's totally fine. Try again. Like, get back up and try again. And I just have seen this so many times with nursing students that they think it's kind of like one of those mental fallacies that we tell ourselves, well, if I failed before, I'm more likely to fail again. That's not true because you know so much of it already. Like I said, you're not starting from zero. Yeah, yeah. Good mindset now. More confident now because, you know, you like, you know how kind of it goes. You know what nursing school is like. I love that. I love your attitude about it. This is fantastic. You're gonna do great. I'm not worried about that at all. Yep.
Yeah, I think that's, that's all really good. So really backing up a little bit. And what do you do if you fail an exam or get the grade that you weren't expecting? What, what's, what are step by step things that you can do when you fail an exam? So the very first thing, like I said, I think crying is, is an appropriate emotional response.
Yeah, that could be appropriate.
Yes. So I. Don't beat yourself up. But also. Yeah, feel it. We've been talking past couple days, we've talked about motivation and.
What did we talk about?
What did we talk about?
I don't even remember.
But one thing that I keep coming back to is knowing thyself. So know yourself. So if you fail, it's. It's going to feel bad. So it's okay to feel bad. It's okay to have those feelings and to go through that. So make space and get through those feelings. Now the important thing is that you do get through those feelings and you don't spend your time wallowing there for too long. So spend the appropriate amount of time, the appropriate amount of time sorry for yourself, and then move on.
Get back up and try again.
So that was step one is, go ahead, go ahead and do that. And then step two is move beyond it. And what is, what are some practical things to do now that you're in a better mindset?
Yeah, to move forward for sure. And if you. So I have some really practical tips. So if you fail an exam or don't do as well as you wanted, or, you know, fail the program, don't.
Do as well as you wanted.
So like AI said, take a step back, take it in. Definitely you need to write down your entire study process. Write down how did you study for that class, for that exam, for that term, whatever. Write out exactly, exactly how you said. Like, like write the whole thing out. Like, did you use flashcards? Did you read the textbook? What did you read in the textbook? Were you following in lecture class? Like, were you reading the book before lecture? You know, all the things. Were you watching YouTube videos? How were you studying? So list out, make an entire list. Like write it on a paper. Write out how you are studying for this class and then what I want you to do. See, I'm getting a little coachy here. What you need to do is take that paper with, with how you study, right? You've written it all out. Go talk to your nursing instructor and you're going to ask them two things. You're going to ask them, okay, you're going to show them that paper and say, okay, this is how I'm studying. What do I need to change? Okay? Because obviously something's not working right? So I really like, I really like asking this question to your instructor. So, like, if you're talking to your instructor, ask them this question. If you are taking your class, how would you study? So how would you study for your class if you were, if you were a student? Basically, like, if you were in my shoes, how would you study for your class? I think that's such a great question to ask your instructor because it gets, well, kind of, it'll get you hopefully good feedback from them for, for study tips. But also that question by, like turning it around puts them into thinking that they're in your shoes. So I think that's a really nice. It's kind of like a role playing kind of thing. So getting your instructor to think of it from that perspective can be really, really helpful. So definitely ask them that. So first step, well, first step, like Matthew said, have a good cry about it, you know, that's totally fine. The next step though is to write out your whole study process. So write out everything. How do you study for your exams? How did you, you know, what did you do to study for that exam, to study for that term and then go, you know, go meet with your instructor and walk through that, get their feedback. Is there something you're doing that you shouldn't be doing? Is there something that you're not doing that. You should be doing, you know, get their feedback and then step number. What was that? Now we're on step number four. This is step number four. Meet with your instructor. So either at that meeting, when you're meeting with them about your study, study process, try to go over your exams with them. This is huge. So if your instructors allow you to go through your exams, do it every single time. So go through your exams, figure out why you got questions right, why you got questions wrong. Go through the rationales with them, Talk through it with them. You know, because you need to understand why you are missing questions, why you are missing points. Right. I did this even when I got a 90 on my exams, like 90%, but I still went into their. Their office because I know, like, you know, that some of those questions are going to show up on the final. Right. And it might be all 10 of the questions that I got wrong. So you have. I think that's just such a great thing to do every single exam that you have. Go talk to your instructor, write out your whole study process. Go talk to them. Look, this is how I studied. What do you see that I could be doing different, should be doing different. And also, can we go over the exam together?
Yeah. I really like your tips about actually going and talking to 2D instructors as often as possible.
Yes.
And about that, going through your study process and talking them through and, and asking how can you improve? I really like that because it really does open them up to you and shows that you're really trying, that you're really working. You're not just sitting in a class just kind of coasting to get through it. You're. You're really putting in the work. And they'll see that. And most time then they'll, they'll appreciate that for sure that you're not just another seat warmer in their class, that you do want to learn and that you want to improve. So I think that will be really good in the long run. Just kind of nurturing that relationship with your teacher too. So as much as you can, talk to them. Also, it's important to. Yes. In the broader sense of the term, just take responsibility for the studying and the shortcomings and how you can improve. So. So that's really important. I mean, if you just look at the test and said, oh, I failed and I'm not gonna get any better, then that's not a really good mindset to be in. You need to. You, you do want to improve upon what you're doing, right? Yeah. So I think, I think that's all really good.
Yeah, absolutely. I, I just really want you to know that it's okay to not get straighties in nursing school. You know, it's, I think what you were saying earlier, like it's so important that we set, it's important that we set expectations for ourselves because we always want to keep getting better. However, when we don't meet those expectations, when we don't meet our own expectations, that's okay. Like we need to know that that's okay because it's a learning experience. Right. We're not going to beat ourselves up about it. We're not going to, you know, spiral ourselves into self doubt and anxiety and you know, just feel terrible and you know. Yeah, just beat ourselves up. We're not going to do that. Like that's not what we do here. Okay. So it's okay to meet the, to set those expectations and it's okay to not meet your own expectations. That just means that we're going to keep working on it.
Yeah. Yeah. So the mindset things that, that is really important. And if you haven't watched our motivation or confidence or live from the beginning of this week, definitely check that out.
That was Sunday.
Yeah, that was Sunday. Really good, good information on, on motivation. But to jam on it specifically about failing an exam, you mentioned it earlier. Don't compare yourselves to others and that, that is really important. And what's it saying? Don't compare your lowlights to someone else's highlights reel?
Oh yeah, something like that. Yeah. Yeah.
So everyone will always put on their shoulder and make it very public all the best things that they have going on going for them. That's the kind of downfall for social media. Sometimes you see all the best of people, but for some reason all you can think of is the worst of yourself. And so you're comparing those and that's just not very good place to be. So definitely take a step back and do not compare yourselves to others. You're not the only one that has failed an exam. Everyone's going through it. Everyone feels the exact same way you're feeling guaranteed. So just, just remember that too. And yes, everyone's going through the same thing. And the other thing about mindsets that I just want to touch on is if you do fail an exam, know that that's all it is. You failed an exam, that does not make you a failure. So do not make that part of your identity either. You failed an exam and that's, that's fine.
Everyone does it.
Yes. So you failed an exam. You are not a failure. And that's a very key difference to remember as well.
Yeah, absolutely. So Nicole and I. Yeah. On our membership coaching call today, we're actually talking about this too. Hey, Gary, you asked. I joined the waiting. Yeah, the waiting list. The VIP list.
We changed the name. It's VIP List.

I was the Ides of March. If anyone has read Julia Caesar haven't.
No.
So there you go. That's my clue for all you.
When is the Ides of March?
I'm a rapper before the Ides of March.
That's March. Funny.
ETU Brutus.
Okay, so sorry.
Continue.
For the coaching call today, we are talking about when I started nursing sos. I don't know if you guys knew this, but if you didn't know this, here's a little history lesson. I started nursing SOS when I was in nursing school. So this was my. Quite a few years ago now.
It's been. Been a minute.
Been a minute. So I started it in nursing school. It was just like a. And I started it after I had helped teach other students in school. And so I started it. I just said, okay, well, I'll just put this stuff online. Maybe it can help other people too. And apparently it did. So the interesting thing that came out of that is that when I started nursing sos, I was still in the mindset of everyone else gets this except for me, but. Which is kind of a funny false psychotomy because here I am teaching it, and I'm still thinking like, oh, well, I don't really. Like, I'm still nervous for my exam and all these things. So, yeah, you know, that's a whole other story. But it's like this. We get into this mindset in nursing school where we think we're the only ones. We think we're the only ones struggling. And that's exactly what I was feeling. And so when I started nursing sos, I. I was so surprised because I started getting emails from students saying, I am so nervous. Like, I'm so scared I'm not going to pass my exam. I'm close to failing out. Everyone else gets it, and I am so confused, you know, I don't know what I'm doing. What if they figure out that I don't know what I'm doing? You know, what if they find out that I'm not ready to graduate? Yeah, what if, like, what if they find out that I actually don't know anything? You know, it's all. All these things. It's all these things in our minds, and it's just your brain. It's just your brain having its brain minute. It's no big deal. It's no big deal. It does not make it true. Just because you have a thought does not make it true. Just because you think you're this horrible, awful person doesn't make it true. Just because you think you don't know anything doesn't make it true. So that is really a huge mindset shift that I had early on, because I was right there, I was thinking that I did not know anything. I was the only one. And yet I'm getting all these emails from students saying, hey, I think I'm the only one. And, you know, it's the same thing. Everyone feels the same way.
You do that deserves a comment or a heart or emoji or something.
Yeah, throw up the heart.
Throw in the comments whether you feel that same way that you feel like you're the only one. And surprise of surprise, watch how it's. You're not.
Watch how you're.
Watch how you're not. So comment below if you think that you're the only one that doesn't get it. Or you're the only one that feels lost.
Or the only one that throw out the unicorn emoji. Because I like the unicorn emoji. Or what's my other favorite one? I really like the star. See? See, we got a lot of hearts on Instagram. I like it when the hearts go, like, up.
Like, I personally like the ninja.
See? Lots of hearts.
Pretty cool.
YouTube. You're falling behind. YouTube.
YouTube.
Instagram's beating you. You know, everyone feels that way, and it is a bummer.
But, I mean, if enough people feel that way that they actually named it imposter syndrome, then, I mean, it. It actually has a name, so obviously a lot of people have to be feeling it.
Yeah, no kidding. I. I was thinking about imposter syndrome today, actually. Is this okay? So we, Nicole and I are gonna do a video on imposter syndrome. Hey, they found the unicorn. You found the unicorn.
Thank you.
Yeah. Lots of hearts on Instagram. Lots of unicorns on YouTube. I love it.
See, you guys are not alone. Look at it. Look at it.
So many people. We are going to do a call. I don't know, I just forget if it's going to be a coaching call for members or if it's going to be a YouTube video. I don't remember what I scheduled it as, but it's going to be on imposter syndrome. And it's funny because do you remember when imposter syndrome started? Like, start, like that phrase, that phrase?
Yes.
It used to be super cool in, like, the personal growth space, and then it got mainstream. I was thinking about that today. I was like, man, I had imposter syndrome before. Imposter syndrome was cool. Now I feel like everyone has imposter syndrome or everyone's, like, labeling it as. Yeah, yeah. It's really an interesting.
I think everyone's just coming out and saying, oh, yeah, that's what I'm feeling. And now that we have a title, a name to. To hook to. To say that's what it is. They're like, everyone's realizing, oh, that's what it is.
Yep. Yep. That's. That's my diagnosis. Yeah. Emily, appreciate the positivity. I have four exams this week, and I'm feeling so overwhelmed. You're gonna do great. It's gonna be great.
I saw a meme. This is totally awkward.
I love memes.
I saw a meme. What did it say? It's someone talking to someone else, and it's like, hey, I. I really like Your personality. And the answer is. Oh, thanks.
It's a disorder. That would be like me. Oh, thanks. Yeah. Oh, man, that's awesome. Yeah. Like, if imposter syndrome could be like a DSM diagnosis, we'd all.
Yeah, it's tough. Everyone has it legitimately. Everyone has imposter syndrome about something. Someone will find out. Don't worry.
So when I was in therapy for all my anxiety stuff. Hey, if you haven't heard that story, maybe we'll have to talk about it sometimes. I think we talked about it a couple weeks ago on the live or something.
Maybe a little bit.
Yeah, we should do a whole thing about it because, like, who deals with anxiety? I'm not the only one.
Oh, yeah, we did talk anxiety.
I know.
Yes.
So when I was saying therapy and doing the like, therapy intake, like, I was telling her why I just have so much energy. Because I always, like, you guys know me, like, I am always talking. I have so much energy all of the time. And she assessed me for bipolar disorder because it's like I don't. I don't have the downs, but I definitely have the highs. Like, do I ever stop talking?
No.
Ever?
No.
The answer is no.
I am an introvert and the answer to that is no. Not only that, but the kids have caught. Caught on and they don't stop talking either. For the introvert, it's kind of. It's kind of interesting place to be.
That's so true.
If you have any suggestions, post them below. What is an introvert to do.
With so many children and a wife that never stops talking? That's great.
Yes.
I love that.
It's like a continuous stream of words. It just keeps coming.
It just keeps coming. Yeah. I tell you, it's just it. I think that that is genuinely could be a disorder. If I were to label a disorder of mine, it'd be like having too much energy. And like, literally I was on Instagram, this was like midnight or 1am or something, and I took a screen. I literally took. Did a story and I was like, hey, guys, it's like midnight and I am awake thinking about you. Because I'm always thinking about how to help our nursing SOS members. Just so fun. I don't know. I really should be diagnosed with something.
Broke down and cried before my exam yesterday. I was so anxious. Yes, again, not alone. Guaranteed you are not alone. Yes. We did do a live about stress.
Hey, Nicole.
And anxiety a little bit.
Yeah.
Yes.
Nicole, I was just talking about you.
Oh, yes. Welcome to our lives. Welcome to our Lives. Welcome to our lives as well.
Welcome to our lives.
Such that it is.
Oh, man. I tell you what, you guys, hopefully.
This has been helpful for you guys. What do you think? Yeah, you guys feel better or worse? About what? What happens if you fail an exam? Hopefully better. If you feel better, write it in the comments below. If you don't, don't write anything. Just kidding. If you don't like it, just hit the like anyway.
It's the best anyway. Yes, please hit the like button. Don't make me spit out my coffee. Okay.
And if you enjoy these lives, be sure to hit subscribe. Hit the bell. We're here every. Well, we're going to make it unsubscribe.
If you never want to.
Well, sometimes it's not for everyone. It's cool. It's cool.
I need sleep.
Well, you know what?
I've.
I've heard someone. I was watching YouTube. Fancy that. And their call to action was really cool. So I'd like to try it. I'm not sure if anyone will do.
It, but go for it. Someone better do it.
Yeah, he said go ahead and spam the like, which I'm not sure exactly what that does. Whether that like, likes and unlikes. And likes and unlikes. I'm not sure exactly what that does.
Okay, can somebody on YouTube just click it a bunch of times?
Click it a bunch of times.
Please click it a bunch.
Let us know how much you like us by pressing out how many times you like.
Let's see what happens if you. If you, like, click it a bunch of times. Tell me what happens if you click.
I like that. I do like that. Oh, you want me to actually watch? Okay.
All right, let's see what happens if you click the like a bunch of times. Somebody tell me. Good times. So, friends. Yes. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. The nursing ASPOS membership community is going to open pretty soon. Pretty soon, so definitely get on that. That. Oh, I was gonna call it a VIP list. It's a VIP list now. I was gonna call it a wait list, but it's a VIP list and you will love it. Okay, so we have a lot of stuff coming for you. I can't speak about it.
There's a lot of things.
But there's a lot of things.
Like.
Like, we can't talk about it right now because it's kind of a secret.
It would take too long also to talk about everything, so.
That's true.
Yeah.
And I needed a nap, so we'll talk about it later. But yes, you will. Definitely want to join when enrollment opens. And, you know, wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Very soon. Because there's just. There's just a lot that's coming very, very soon. So I am so stoked about it. Up top, man. We've worked so hard.
That was right by the mic. Sorry, guys. Sorry for the mic. But, hey, it's cool.
I'm not the tech person.
I don't.
So excited. So if you are a nursing ESSENCE member, stay tuned. We've got several. Several announcements coming for you over the next, you know. Well, actually several months. Ah, I am so stoked.
Okay, let's see what else. Other announcements. Oh, yeah, we. We've been trying to. Well, we've been going live a lot more often, and we want to continue going live if that will help you out.
Awesome question.
Are you guys married or siblings? Are there any other choices or. Those. The only two. In reality. I was just walking outside. I was just taking my walk, and she's like, hey, do you want to be on a live? And I'm like, yeah, sure, why not? And so here I am. Not a nurse, by the way. Not a nurse.
Wouldn't that be crazy if, like, I wasn't either? Like, I don't know. Nobody ever asked that. Okay, yes, I'm a nurse. Like, does anybody care? I don't know. Maybe not. Maybe they're like, oh, well, they sound cool.
Yeah. Do we? Do we sound cool?
I don't know. Are we cool? I don't know. Yes, we are married.
Yes.
That's really funny. What are the other options? Walking outside for you. I wanna.
Quick. I need another. I need a plus one for my life. And so here we go.
Oh, dear friends.
Yes, we are married.
This is. Yeah. Oh, people think we're cool. Okay. Oh, thank you. Very good Instagram for thinking we're cool. I'm definitely not cool, but I. I appreciate you for thinking that.
Yes. And we appreciate you guys for hanging with us and watching. So what was I saying? Oh, yeah, that's what I was saying. Hold on, let me finish up what I said. We're. We're going live more often, so definitely let us know the topics. If you guys like these kind of topics to talk about. If you like uplifting things. Sing alongs. I don't know. We've never done a sing along yet, but I guess we could.
We're not doing a sing along. That is a very, like, karaoke. It's a very Filipino.
It is a very Filipino thing. All the Filipinos out there just drop a Mic.
Drop them, Mike.
But what were you saying? Mondays, Wednesdays.
Mondays and Wednesdays, I think. Yeah. Mondays and Wednesdays.
So we're also. Yeah, we're getting a schedule together.
Trying to.
Trying to. So until further notice, Monday, Wednesdays is what we're talking about. So, yes, let us know what additional topics you want or if you just kind of want to talk like this, like we are now. This is fun, too.
Yeah. It's funny, though, because on YouTube, I don't know. Nicole knows more than I do, but I've noticed we've been getting angry YouTube comments.
Oh, really?
People are mad at us for doing these lives. Like, people genuinely comment. They're like, these videos are too loud. No one in nursing school has time to watch a live video.
You guys have time.
All these people who have.
You guys are the cool guys.
I just like hanging out with you. Really is what it is.
Little.
Yeah, I'm talking to that.
I know.
But I like hanging out with you, too.
Pro tip, if you watch our lives afterwards, you can always, like, speak. Speed it up.
Oh, yeah. True story. Right?
True story. True story on YouTube, actually, if you back up, which is something that people do, too, apparently, while. While we're on our live now, you can actually back up and watch what we've been talking about and then speed it up so you can catch up to where we are now.
Yeah.
So that's fun, too.
That's a good synopsis of what we do.
It helps others.
Nice.
I. I can't. I was reading things out of order. It helps to know others are in the same boat as I am, but also open to a conversation in real emotions. We're all about the real emotions.
We're all about the real.
The fake emotions are not fun.
The fake emotions.
Yeah.
What is a fake emotion?
I don't know. I don't know.
Like, just throwing it out there, pretending to be angry right now. Do I look angry?
What's your angry face?
What's your angry face?
We're teaching how to feel emotions to the Littles. The Littles. Yeah.
And their angry faces are so funny.
The happy face looks like an angry face sometimes.
It's kind of weird.
They're kind of strange.
Ah, good times, my friends. So, yes, if you want to get mad at us about live videos being too long in the replay, don't leave a YouTube comment. Well, actually leave a YouTube comment because it helps with our YouTube rankings. Yes.
Let us know how you feel. Let us know how you really feel.
Keep those. Yeah, seriously, I was actually telling someone the other day this was. Was this on a coaching call? I think so. These are all. It's always on a coaching call because man, do our coaching calls. Right, Nicole. We talk about some really fun stuff and stories that we've never talked about before. But I was saying on a coaching call, like, if we. If I had a list of all the mean comments that people have written to me over the years, like we should genuinely do like a Christina reads mean tweets.
That became a thing.
That did become a thing. Is it still a thing?
I don't know if that's still a.
Thing, but I think that. That it would be kind of funny. Except there are a lot of bad words that people send to us sometimes, and I'm not going to read those because I don't say bad words, but I think that would be kind of funny. Yeah. Anyway, if you know a hater somewhere out there, invite them to our YouTube channel so that they can leave comments and help our rankings.
I like that. I like that.
A general synopsis.
Alex, what time is it there? It's 11pm you stay late. Can't you see around us? It's really bright. That means it's daytime.
Is that how it works?
That's light means daytime, doesn't it?
Light means daytime.
People from Perth, Australia, know what I'm talking about. On the other side of world.
Yup. Australia. Love it. We didn't have anybody from Canada. Is anybody on from Canada right now? Who's from Canada? We always. We usually always.
We always have people from Australia from Canada and the US of A. And Philippines.
The Philippines. Yep. Those are pretty much our country. Countries someone joined from. Was it Ecuador?
Oh, yes.
A couple times ago. A couple lives ago.
Florida. Yeah.
Yeah. North Carolina. We've got on Florida. Wyoming.
California.
California.
Hey, I am in Canada.
Thank you, Marina. Yes, we always.
Or as I like to say, Canadia. We had a discussion about that the other day. Do you like being called Canadian or not? You can be honest. It won't hurt my feelings and I won't stop saying.
It won't hurt my feelings and I won't stop saying Washington, D.C. ohio. Fantastic. You guys are awesome. Oh, Maryland. Okay, cool. Maryland. Washington. What? Two Marylands.
Y.
Are you guys your neighbors? Neighbors? Yeah, it's a big, big place.
Well, not that big.
Not that big. Well, I was thinking, like, are you the same person? But no, the names don't match up. But it is kind of funny. Like we have had that happen on lives where people are on Instagram and on YouTube watching at the same. Like it's the same person and they're commenting on both platforms.
You guys really like us?
Apparently, yeah. Like two different angles of Christina and Matthew. Yeah. You really don't need two different angles of us. It's fine. It's just as I don't mind.
Yes. Well, that's good. I don't think they do mind.
I think it's. Canadians are. Oh, hey, riddle me this. Can you guys tell me, do you like the name Nursling?
Oh, yes. You've. You've asked this before.
I have a question. This is my question. When I was in nursing school, we were called nurseling. That's what our school called us. I am curious. Do you like that name?
Have you been called that?
Do you not like that name? Have you been called that?
Yes, I am curious.
Tell me. I'm curious. Nurslings. Or maybe this isn't a fun game to play, but does your school call you something else?
Yeah. Yeah. Is there another term for nursing students? Nursing students. Right. That's. Yeah, that's what it's for, right? Nursing students.
Nurse slings. Yeah. Schwandell, you say no. Is that no as in you don't like it, or is that no as in your school does not call you that? I need some clarification. Yeah, Nurse things. I'm just. I'm not sure how I feel about the term nurseland. I always miss your live videos, but trust me, I go through them all time and I've learned a lot.
Thank you.
Thanks. I'm glad someone finds value out of this.
That's really what we want to do, by the way, is add value to.
You guys lives, whether it's to your life.
Laughing with us, at us, or learning.
Laughing with us or at us. Yes, or learning. That's really. That's a good synopsis of what we do. Yes, it is. We try to provide value in those three ways. Haven't been called that yet.
Haven't been called that yet.
Okay. Nurse Lynn. Maybe it was just you guys, I don't know. Nurseling. Like a little hatchling, Right? Like a little chickadee, you know? No, I don't like nursing students.
Well, that is what. You are so awesome. That is true.
Nursing students. Okay. All right. Yeah. I don't know how I feel about it either. I mean, I think it can be kind of cute, but then it can also come off as a little bit demeaning, you know? Depends on maybe how it's said and who's saying it, you know, and if.
You'Re Being patted on the head. All they're saying. It comes across a little differently if they're patting you on the head and they're calling you nurslings.
That's true.
Just. Yeah.
Oh, man, I've noticed you guys are so funny. Oh, I love this. This is why we love live video, because it's the waddle waddle. Okay, look up that video. What is it called? That is so. It's like, hey, got any grapes? Okay, look that up. Look it up. Just look up. Hey, got any grapes? I don't know what's going.
I don't remember. I don't remember the name of the.
Song, but it's such a funny song and such a funny YouTube video. And can you look it up right now, please? Oh, I guess, because we really should bless them with the hey, Gotti and grape song.
Well, okay, so if you want a little insight into our lives. A little more insight into our lives. We are married for one. Hello. And for number two, we played this song at our wedding.
It's called the duck song.
It's the duck song.
Okay, can we play it and can they hear it?
No, they can't hear it. Look up the duck song. There's multiple parts.
It's literally called the duck song.
We played it at our wedding.
We did play it at our wedding. Along with Mario Brothers. Yes, yes.
That's the kind of people we are. So if. If you like that kind of thing, go ahead and hit subscribe.
That is so funny. We're gonna watch that video tonight after this live. That was hilarious.
Okay, Pasto B with a B. Woohoo.
On the peds. Yes. Nicole, Fantastic.
Congratulations.
Congratulations. All right, my friends. This was fun.
This was fun. Thank you, guys for hanging.
I think we've tried to say sign off now, like four times.
That's cool. Anything else you guys want to talk about?
Anything else? Ducks. Chickens. All right, we want to get chickens.
So homework for tonight. Go watch the duck song and then come back on our next live and tell us how you liked it.
Tell us how much of a blessing it was to your life. Oh, what's the one? What's my. It's the corgi. It's actually literally on our website because I put it on there.
Yes, I saw that while I was cleaning up our website the other day.
You left it up, right?
Yeah, I did leave it up.
It's like, okay, if you go to nursing schoolofsuccess.com about. Was it about. Right, it's the about me page there is the best video you will ever watch. It's a Corgi twerking video. And it's a Corgi shaking its little booty. Anyway. So cute.
There you go. I'm putting it in there.
And the link is there for you on YouTube live. Oh, man, I love that.
Go to that page. Scroll all the way to the bottom. Get to know about Christina.
Pay extension.
Matthew, click the video.
You married me. That says a lot about you, too.
Whether you do that before or after looking up the duck song is up to you. But you guys now officially have homework to go. Watch the duck song and let us know how you liked it.
Take a break from your studying.
Yes.
And watch the duck song in a Corgi. Corgi song. All right, you guys, we will see you on, what, Monday?
Yes, we'll see you on Monday next week.
Is that March?
Is that March already?
Oh, man, that's probably March. Or maybe barely March. No, that's still February.
It's February is hanging on by a thread. Next time we're on live.
Yeah, I saw a funny Valentine's Day thing going. Going around for, like. Like, singles on Valentine's Day. What did they call that? Like a. Well, oh, Galentine's Day. Right, like the Galentine's Day. So it's not Valentine's Day. Yeah. So anyway. Yeah, something like that.
Dudes don't have that.
You guys don't have that. What are you talking about? Galentine's Day. So there's like, a meme or something going around that's like, if they can get rid of the last few days of February, why can't they get rid of the 14th too? Spring. Very funny. I thought that was hilarious. Anyways, friends, I hope this was a blessing to you.
Yes, hopefully. Hopefully you enjoyed our talk and personal talk about going back and looking at what to do when you fail an exam. That was a really roundabout way of saying it.
What to do when you fail an exam is. And if you get on YouTube and watch the results.
So step one, feel. Feel bad about yourself. Step two, watch the duck song. Step three, talk to your teachers in that order. That is it. That is a recap of our live. If you want to know, the deets back up, like, halfway. The ending of this live kind of fell apart, but it's cool. Thanks for joining us. Thanks for hanging with us. Well, it's all right.
See you next time. They're gonna know, like, so much about us.
That's fine.
Oh, man. Okay. Take care, friends.
Talk to you guys later.
Bye.
Bye.
