WHY IS NURSING SCHOOL SO HARD??

Christina Rafano breaks down why nursing school is harder than other programs: the volume of care plans, the specific critical thinking style exams demand, and the sheer amount of medical information. She recommends the Ackley & Ladwig Handbook, concept mapping, and her Nursing SOS membership to tackle each challenge.

So, have you ever wondered exactly what makes nursing school hard? Well, that's exactly what we're going to talk about in this video. And if there is another thing that you see that makes nursing school hard, pop it in the comments down below. I can't wait to hear from you. I want to know if I'm missing something or if there's an aspect of nursing school that just makes it so, so hard that I'm forgetting about. Pop it in the comments and I would love to see what you think. So my name is Christina Rafano from nursingschoolofsuccess.com and I am here to help you rock nursing school. So really, there are three main things that I have found that makes nursing school roll hard and different from other academic programs. So the first one we'll talk about is care plans. Care plans, if you're not quite familiar with them, are a patient's plan of care. So as a nursing student, you are going to go see your patient, you're going to assess them, meaning you're going to kind of collect some data on them, look at them, listen to their heart, their lungs, and their tummy. You know, collect all the information that you need to know about them. And then for nursing school, you're going to write this whole assignment on them. You're going to write out their plan of care, not only at your clinical facility, but also for your instructor. So this care plan is a whole process. There are so many different things you've got to fill in and include in your care plan, and there are so many that you do. So you're going to walk through kind of this patient situation, give all of the recommendations that you would do, the nursing interventions, what you assess. There's just so much that goes into creating care plans in nursing school, and you have to write about a gazillion of them. That is one of the huge differences between nursing school and other programs is just the volume of care plans that you have to create and the depth of the care plans you have to create. I mean, care plans you don't do in any other academic program like other other disciplines like psychology or history or archaeology or things like that. So. So this is my number one care plan hack that I want to share with you today. I am gonna shout it from the rooftops because it will change your life. It's gonna change the game for you. It's called the Nursing Diagnosis Handbook by Ackley and Ladwig. So if you are struggling with care plans in nursing school, girlfriend, get this book. I popped the link down below in the description. Just a little disclaimer here. That is an affiliate link. So I will receive a small commission if you do decide to purchase this book through my. But you know me. You know that I would never recommend something that I don't love to the depths of my soul. I mean, this book saves me so much time in nursing school. It's terrible. Care plans are a big struggle for a lot of students. And so if you get a care plan book like that, it literally writes your care plans for you because it has all of the components in here that you need to know. It's amazing. It's gonna change your life. Life. So that's really the first thing that I wanted to talk about that really makes nursing school hard and different is those care plans. So you just do so many of them, and thinking about them really is a different way of thinking. You've got to kind of walk through that critical thinking process with your care plans. It makes it difficult to kind of figure that out in nursing school. Leading into the second thing that I wanted to talk about is critical thinking. Critical thinking in nursing school is completely different. It's a totally different way of thinking, kind of rewiring your brain, how a nurse thinks. There's this whole process of critical thinking that you're going to learn in nursing school. Thinking, okay, what do I need to do next? What's happening here? What are the kind of questions I need to be asking this patient based on the situation that they're going through, based on the circumstance, what is happening? So I actually do have a resource for you for this as well. I have another video that I'll pop up a card somewhere around here for you to check out. It's a concept map video and a critical thinking video that will really help you. I have questions there, critical thinking questions to help you walk through and identify. Okay, these are some of the critical thinking points that I need to be thinking about for the things that I'm learning. That video will totally help you out. Definitely check that out. Pop up a card, and the link will be down below for that as well. So that will really help you kind of deepen your critical thinking skills as you go through nursing school. Now, the last one that I wanted to talk about is just the volume of information that you have to learn. So this is another thing that makes nursing school hard, right? What makes nursing school hard? It's just the volume of information that you have to learn. There are so many things, and it's endless. I mean, you ask Any nurse, I will be the first one to raise my hand. You don't know it all and there's nobody that can know it all. There's just so much to know. So you've got all the med surg disorders, all your fundamentals topics, the assessment process, the fluid and electrolytes, pharmacology, all the meds. I mean that's a whole degree program in itself, right? As a pharmacy. So nurses are expected to know a whole bunch of that on top of everything else that you've got to know about in nursing school. So it's just this volume of information that you really have to know. And so the best resource I have for you for this is of course the nursing SOS membership community. It is going to be your saving grace in nursing school. We've got tons of med surg videos in there, full courses like the cardiac course, respiratory course, endocrine course. I mean we've just got it in there for you. Fluid, electrolytes, a course on how to study pharmacology, how to write care plans, how to study. It's incredible. So it's going to change the game for you in nursing school. So if you are struggling with remembering and learning the whole volume, just everything that you have to know in nursing school, the whole volume of information you've got to know in your brain, if you're struggling with that, consider enrolling into the nursing SOS membership community is gonna save your life. And I am so excited to hold your hand through nursing school and to help you out as much as I can. So those are really the three things that I see that make nursing school hard. So write what makes nursing school hard. And it's really these three key things that I've noticed is care plans and just how many you have to write that the thinking process that goes along with it, you really have to walk step by step what is happening with all of your patients and the critical thinking that goes along with that. And that's the second part is critical thinking. So how to critically think in nursing school so that you can actually know what's coming next and you can really succeed not only at clinical, in your lecture classes, but also on your exams, right? Your exams are all about your critical thinking skills. You have to be able to interpret case scenario questions, interpret patient scenarios and know what to do on those NCLEX style questions on your nursing school exams. So critical thinking is a huge, huge deal. You've got to know how to critically think in nursing school. And then the third thing is just the volume of information that you've got to know. So I hope those resources helped. We've got the Care Plan book here for you for writing care plans for those critical thinking skills. I have a video on that for you that you can check out. And of course if you need help remembering all the information you've got to know, the Nursing SOS Membership Community is for you my friend.
