The Bureau of Prisons launched a task force to speed up home confinement releases for federal inmates. It will identify eligible prisoners in reentry centers and manually calculate release dates under the First Step Act and Second Chance Act, then send those calculations to the Residential Reentry Management Group to accelerate the process.

¡Hola! So the Bureau of Prisons, with their new director, have really sort of tried their best to help some of the inmates get home quicker. You know, I think one thing that we've heard a lot of our clients complaining about is that, you know, there are all these directives coming down, but they're not getting the benefit of it. Well, just recently on July 15th, they issued a press release for the creation of this First Step Act Task Force. And this is really great. So what they're going to do, there are a couple of different provisions of this. What they're going to do is they're going to identify inmates who are currently in residential reentry centers who are eligible for home confinement. So they're going to try to get those guys home as quickly as they can. Then they're also going to manually calculate the home confinement dates that stack both the First Step Act and the Second Chance Act dates. Okay, so they're going to go ahead and kind of manually do that, get that information over to the Residential Reentry Management Group, and that's going to facilitate these guys being able to kind of go home quicker. So, you know, like I said, there have been people who have been sort of complaining about how this isn't moving quickly enough, but the Bureau of Prisons has really actually been listening to all of this. To these complaints, and so they're acting on it. That's happened about 10 days ago, and so hopefully people who were sort of caught in the, these crosshairs of the Bureau of Prisons and new management will get the benefit of these, these changes really quickly. So if you have any questions about this, please feel free to call our office. We can be reached at 803-445-1333. Thanks a lot. Bye, y'all.
