Hope you're doing well today. I want to talk to you about getting things done. So what usually happens for many of us is we wake up, we roll over, we pick up our phone, and we check our email, right? For many of us, that's the first thing we do. And what that does is it puts your day behind the eight ball. You are immediately reacting to the world. You're checking in and saying, world, what do I need to do today? You're immediately answering emails stressing about other people's agendas. And what I did a few years ago was I decided for the first hour I was not going to touch my phone, I was not going to check email, I was not going to check voicemail. I was going to check in on my to do list and attack that goal. And the thought was, if I can first attack, what I need to get done, the rest of the world is can wait. And this comes from several different books I've read and several different mentors of mine. But the basic idea is that you want to get your thing, the most important thing on your agenda done before you check in with the rest of the world. And this concept of the one thing comes from the book. The one thing that you focus on, the one thing that will make everything else easier or relevant, it'll advance your goals in different areas of your life. So what I do is I do that one thing. The most important thing that, that I need to get done that day. And I consider everything else to be a distraction until my one thing is done, everything else is a distraction, including emails and voicemails and text messages. So it may be done in 30 minutes, it may be done in six hours, but I don't lose my focus on that one thing. Now. It's hard to do right if you have a boss or you have a board of directors, if you have young children at home with you right now, it's hard to focus on that one thing. So what I tried to do is I let everybody know that's what I do, right? This is what I work on. And because of that, it allows me, once that one thing is done, to focus in on other people's agendas. But they recognize that I'm really advancing everybody's mission by focusing on the most important thing for all of us, especially inside of my companies. Makes sense. Challenge for myself, challenge for you. Go out there, get your one thing done first and seize your legacy.
