IgnoreMotivation

A short motivational monologue by 'A.I. Counselor' arguing that external motivation is fleeting and ineffective for long-term goals; instead, a deep personal drive or 'why' that pulls you through boredom, distraction, and uncertainty is what sustains progress and legacy-building. The speaker challenges listeners to identify and act on their why.

Today, I want to talk to you about motivation. Motivation does not work. Oftentimes, we'll spend our times focusing on YouTube videos or maybe some inspirational message we heard at church or from a friend, and we'll feel motivated. The problem with motivation is it doesn't last. You may be pumped up in the moment. You may come away from a YouTube video or something that somebody has told you, hold you, and you feel this surge of energy and focus, and then it dissipates, it goes away. It goes away really quickly. And then you find yourself with this sugar high and a sugar low based on being motivated. What does work? What does work over the long term is finding something that drives you, something that keeps you focused over the long term. See, motivation whacks and wanes, but your drive, what you truly focus on, will push you forward through those laws, through the valleys of boredom, through the valleys of distraction. So if something is pulling you through, many people talk about it as being your why. Your why. Why are you going to work every day? Why are you spending late hours working on something away from your family? This why has to be so strong that it pulls you through these valleys of distraction. See, motivation will come and go, but that drive, that why, will pull you through whenever you feel like not getting up in the morning, when you feel like putting off to today, what can be done to tomorrow, right? This desire to focus on Netflix or on the passing desires of today, the drive, the why, will pull you through when everything else is pulling you back. So what is your why today? What is your why this year? For many of us right now, it's a focus on our family. It's a focus on the realities of the world pulling us, that there's so many things pulling in opposite directions. There's a lot of uncertainty. But for you, it's the certainty that if you step fully into your life, if you step into your why, you'll find your impact. So for you, think it through this morning, where can you make your why stand out? Get rid of your motivation. It will not last, but your drive, your why will pull you through. Just a thought for today. It's a challenge for myself, a challenge for you. Go out there every single day and seize your legacy.
