Carl credits Ayn Rand for shaping how he thinks about life. He argues the point of existence is to enjoy each day, and that happiness comes from success across relationships, values, and passions, not just money.

Ayn Rand is a big influence on my life. One of the things she taught me, which is very simple, that life is to be enjoyed every day, every week, every month, every year of your life. Life is to be enjoyed. Now, of course, there's ups and downs, there's good luck and bad luck, but the fundamental purpose is to enjoy life. And you can enjoy life, and happiness is a successful state of life, not just success with money, not just— not just success with money. So it's success in all areas of your life, with your friends, with your family, with people that you care about, things that you love, and success very broadly when you're pursuing all of your values and all the things that you care about. And when you achieve those things and you're successful in that way, then happiness is the result and the reward. And I wish you increasing happiness, CJ, and all your listeners.
