One year of ICU experience isn't enough for CRNA school. You need time to build judgment through mistakes, handle tough situations, and develop leadership skills. Intelligence alone won't replace the reps.

I operate from this perspective that I truly believe that nobody should get accepted to CRNA school with just 1 year of experience. I don't care if you have over maybe 160 IQ, it doesn't matter. It's a matter of getting the reps in the ICU, of being put in certain situations, of making mistakes, of developing into a leader. Now, sometimes when I say this on my phone calls, I have people say, "Well, I'm doing charge nurse with a year of experience." And I say to those people, "Well, what does that tell me about your unit? Does that mean you were precepted by somebody who had 6 months experience?" You know, so I think that there's lots of parts of this journey that you can build on. And so long as you don't frame it as a race, but rather a journey. Mm-hmm.
