Yes. Welcome, everyone. My name is Lauren Kanoke. I am the education director here at Curl Cult. We are so excited to share a little bit about our brand with you and hope that it inspires you to do more texture services within your salon. And I've got Caitlin here with me. She's one of our senior Cult leaders. Do you want to introduce yourself, Caitlin?

Hi, everybody. My name is Caitlin Harder and I've been perming for eight years now. And I ran into Curl Cult last year and I was so excited because I had been a perm specialist for a while and always consistently fighting with my products. So when I met Curlcoal, I was so excited because it's solves so many of my problems that our founder, Janine Jarman actually spearheaded. So it's pretty amazing to get started working with everybody. But that's really my small story and my big curl cult story that's going to happen soon.

Awesome. Thank you. So we're going to stay pretty high level today. This is just a 30 minute class to give you the basics of what Crow Cult is, what makes us different within this part of the industry. And we're going to at the end give you an idea of what you can do to take your next step and getting certified and really understanding more about how the product works. If you have any questions at all, you can throw them in the Q and A box and we will answer them along the way. And yeah, let's get started. Let's get rolling. Like we always, we always use that pun. All right, so you guys, beauty experts are talking about texture. They really have been since kind of summer of 2020. There's been this buzz that perms are coming back and you know, young men seem to be the demographic that have really taken that and run with it. I'm sure many of you are getting lots of requests from young men in salon for perms. And you guys, it's here, it's finally upon us. Texture is back. People don't want to spend time heat styling their hair. They want an easy wash and go look, put some product in, head out the door. And what's actually pretty cool is that all of these articles are not just talking about texture and perming, but they are talking about Curl Cult. So we are definitely leading the wave in this resurgence of texture and doing perms and texture services. And a little bit about that, I'm going to let Caitlin kind of tell what makes us different.

So Curl Coal is different than any perm you've used previously. So you'll definitely want to pay attention to those nuances and almost throw the old rulebook out a little bit. So older perms, smelly. You couldn't do it in the salon without people kind of almost teasing you and kind of taunting you about it. Very harsh chemicals, previous things. So Janine, actually our founder, she really took it upon herself to change the way texture was presented and create curl cold as a whole. So she went out to solve these problems making a healthier perm. Just knew that everything needed to be better for it to catch the style that we're currently in. You know, really meet the demands of culture, clients and everything it could be. So the results are so much better With Curl Cult. We have exorbitant shine, a lower ph that keeps the hair healthy as it's working, a really soft fragrance smell. It has a slight chemical hue to it, but it is a berry smell. And throughout the phase, it completely dissipates in the second half of the process. The ingredients, so everything is vegan, cruelty free, are really well thought out and meets the demand of what clients expect nowadays with modern chemical services. And the process for stylists is so much easier to follow. And even your chances of just creating like a bang out perm service are increased with our unique processing that allows us to keep waste down during the procedure. So we actually save, I believe, 15 gallons of water in our process. So that adds to the specialness of curlcolt.

Anything I didn't add? I mean, Janine brought us all together as perming gurus and has created something so unique and really unlocks your artistic freedom, which we'll keep touching on throughout this talk.

Perfect, thank you. I'm going to stop sharing for just a second and start walking you guys through what the line entails. It's right behind me. It's not a huge line, but everything that we have is really thought out and thoughtful in terms of its use and, you know, ingredients in it, like Caitlin was talking about.

So.

So first things first. Everything in a black bottle is our back bar service. So this is what will actually do the perm in salon. So we have our Prepare Clarifying shampoo. It's great at just a 6.5 ph. It doesn't ruffle that cuticle up too much. So that it makes the perming process really easy, but it still removes all those impurities that would hinder a perm. So you guys are going to love this in salon. Even not using it with the perm. It's one of my favorites. I even sometimes use it at home when I feel like I have some. Some buildup, you know, my scalp. So it's great, great product. We have our liberate perm solution, or step one permanent styling lotion, if you will. This is going to obviously break those disulfide bonds and get them ready to take on a new shape. And then we have our regenerate, which is our step two neutralizing treatment, and that is going to reform those bonds into the new shape that the hair is on. So one thing that is kind of unique about these is they're not single use like many other perms. So you only use as much as you need. So if you're doing a spot treatment, super easy to grab an ounce here or there. Or if you're doing a, you know, a client with longer hair, it's easy to add to your bottle, and instead of having to go clip another tip, open a whole another box. So super easy to use behind the chair. One thing that goes along with those is our jumbo thermo caps. So we found that as we were doing these perms on bendy rods, they were taking up a lot of space. And when we wanted to cap the perm, we would end up having to put, like, three or four plastic caps on it. So we made these lovely guys, which are mylar insulated, which is why they're called a thermo cap. So they'll actually take the client's head heat and begin to heat it a little bit on its own. And they're really, really big, so you can fit it over any style or form that you have in the hair.

All right.

And then we also have four retail products that are supportive for the clients to take home to support their new look. They're great for regular, just natural, curly hair as so they fit all of those guidelines for any sort of curly hair styling. We have our refresh and revive hydrating shampoo and conditioner. The cool thing about this is that they are. The bottles are inverted, so there's no having to fight to get down to the last drop. Everything is just taken down there by gravity. We have our magic spell, which is our conditioning leave in. This is great for any hair type and texture. In a little bit, we'll show you. We've already won an Award with this product. So just using it in salon, people will be smelling it, talking about it. It's a great one to add. And then we have our enhanced moisturizing curl cream which will give you that lightweight hold and support and moisture all in one. It's almost like lotion for your hair, which is how we like to describe it. All right, let me share screen again. All right, so you want to talk to us about how the ingredients are clean, Ms. Caitlin.

So the ingredients are one of the best things about this whole entire system as well as the client support at home. So you can actually feel so encouraged recommending the curl coat. Take home products to your clients because they are, they are cruelty free, sulfate surfactant free, but they also kind of just keep. Excuse me. So they do have technology that will hit on shortly that makes it extra special so you're not just having to tell a client, oh, it'll increase shine. That's it. You actually get to explain that there are science behind our products really effectively working, encouraging them to feel confident that it will keep their hair healthy and give them the results that you've coached them that they will be getting with Coperm. So not only are we having those positives with vegan paraben free, cruelty free, but we pass the EU and the Australian standards as well. And the Australian standards are some of the hardest in all of the countries to pass. So that is excellent for us. And then I had kind of touched on this loosely previous, but we like to have no water waste in our product. So we save about 15 gallons per perm in the process. Because of the most unique part of the process, the procedure is once you perm, you'll neutralize right over top. There is no rinsing step, eliminating so much of that water that I had spoke about.

Amazing. And yeah, we're made in a no water waste facility as well. So when the products are made, you know, no water is wasted during that process. Well, so as everywhere we could, we took the environment and ingredients into account and made it as clean as a perm can be. So yeah, super exciting, lots of cool stuff. Now Caitlin referred to our technology which we'll get into here, which is what makes our perm so healthy. So we use a cysteamine solution. So cysteine is an amino acid that is already found in the human body and in our hair. And we use that to soften those disulfide bonds and then our hydrogen peroxide in our neutralizer to reform them so we aren't considered thio free. Now I'm sure many of you remember thioperms. We heard about it in Legally Blonde. I like to equate ammonium thiogloccolate to like 40 volume in bleach. It goes in there, it busts, bonds up and does it fast and hard. And the hair really, really feels it afterwards. So that's what we all imagine when we're getting that like poodle dry frizz perm. At the end of the day, Cysteine is like your 20 volume in bleach. It's going to go in, it's going to be a little bit lower, a little bit slower. It'll still do the job and get you where you want to go, but it's going to be at keeping your health and integrity of your hair at the same time. Now, the real unique thing along along with the systeming solution is that we have PSIM protects in our solution. PSM protex is a combination of pea proteins and plex technology. And PEA prote proteins are super teeny tiny, so they assimilate to the human protein very, very easily. And they just slide in any little gaps in the inner cortex layer of the hair or the cuticle, and they just slide right in there and like I said, assimilate. And the real great thing is, as Caitlin mentioned, when we neutralize over top, we lock all of that in. So it's almost like you're getting a protein treatment along with your perm. So that's why, you know, I would say majority, even like close to 95% of our clients, their first thing that they say is that my hair feels soft. And I don't know about you, Caitlin, but prior to this, I don't think that was the general reaction.

Yes, it was not the general reaction prior to this. So it is so special that you can feel encouraged knowing there is science backing you in all your decisions. Like Lauren was saying. So cysteine is more gentle because it matches our hair's makeup. It's almost like our hair saying, hey, you, come on in here. We're alike. So it encourages that working versus the ammonium thiogloccolate perm, which is incredibly harsh. The pH is such a high scale that your cuticle does get blasted open and it works a little too quickly, making it not suitable for finer text textures, as their hair will usually kind of almost like a burning star, almost the the cuticles open so quick that the solution doesn't have time to do what it needs to do. So Curl Cult has such a large audience available to it, whereas traditional perms had not.

Yeah. Awesome. All right, so you, you know, you gave the aha moment earlier, but do you want to talk a little bit more? What neutralizing over top really means?

Aha. Too quickly?

No, not at all. Not at all.

So fabulous. It's such a fabulous quality. It's the thing that got me here, being able to neutralize over top of the processing solution. So you will wrap your perm of choice. We have plenty of classes to sign up for coming up that go even more into creative perming methods, but we are a huge lover of education and we have all these on our website for free to support anybody that wants to participate in our movement in our curl cult family. So what we are going to do is wrap our perm, then we're going to process over and when the time comes, we don't need to rinse it, we don't need to towel blot. We neutralize as our step two. So this unlocks all of your creativity. You can use any tool and because our PH is really gentle and low, as we mention previously, you can use metal clips without any cause for harm. So you're able to set on anything your heart desires, like our braid perm here. You can even use the hair on someone's head and you'll be able to give them an effective, beautiful result with our system.

Great. Thank you. And we already touched on the smell and like, this is always the point where I wish we had smell o vision because, you know, if you, if you have any scent memory of what a traditional perm smells like and even some perms that are currently on the market and have come out recently, they still have that, that, that awful perm smell.

Yes, they do. True. So I'm glad you touched on this too. So during the processing, you can smell a very faint kind of chemical, but mostly berry smell. It's our signature scent and I love it. So once you use the neutralizer, that smell is almost completely gone. So every single one of my clients gets to snuggle up to someone they love without them smelling like rotten eggs. So gets to sleep comfortably and go to any event straight from the salon and feel confident that they won't be kind of outed with their hair.

Yep, absolutely. And a little, A little note on that. I have been doing some kind of consumer research feedback interviews with stylists who are currently using the product and they are will. They willingly came to us at our request and were willing to talk to us about their experience. And every time I get to the question like, compared to other perms, does the Pro Cult perm smell better, about the same or worse? It is a resounding, oh my God, so much better. So, you know, from the words of users, not just us touting it, it's really exciting that that is such a big game changer just in the client experience and the salon experience as well.

Well, and actually before we move on, speaking of client experience, this procedure makes it to where? 90%. 90, excuse me, percent of the services performed at the chair. So no longer do clients have to lay back in the bowl, really discomforted. And I don't know about you, but I, I like my workspace to be as inclusive as possible. So this makes even the most stiff neck, maybe on our older clients, much more comfortable for them as a process really enticing a whole new demographic because you're not associating your perm, you know, with a low level experience. The experience is elevated for the guest and elevated for us as the stylist.

Absolutely right. All right. So I think the most, I mean, everything is unique. But one of the.

No, we love it so much. We really do.

One of the great things about Curl Cult is how customizable it is. You know, we are not a one look fits all service. There are, you know, other, other brands where it's this like specific way you roll or the specific thing you roll on and you get this of look. What's great with Pro Cult is you can get a variety of, variety of different looks for your clients and really give them a custom look that they can go home with. Here's some testimonials from some real clients that I'm going to just. Oh, I guess we're going to look at some before and afters. So just an idea of how you can customize this. We've got a bunch of different type hair types, textures, curl sizes, length. And it's really, really neat, you know, getting to have that consultation with your client and then give them the hair that they've always wanted. You know, I think most of our curl coat clients are either struggling with the texture they have or, you know, having to style to get a look that they want on a daily basis. And we're really helping solve problems for our clients with this service. There's one more page. We can do this over pre lightened hair, which is we talk more about in our certification. So to learn more about that, please, please take the certification. And yeah, there's, you know, a variety of clients that this can work on. I like to Say this isn't always just a straight to curly solve. This is a texture solution. So even someone who has naturally curly hair, it's kind of on the frizzy side if they need. Or a perm can help them have a more even curl pattern, something more manageable that they don't have to fight with every day. Any comments on that?

I think that's an excellent point because I have so many haircut guests and I actually love to use curl coat as a way to solve the fringe issue. So many people want a specific part or a fringe. And you can use our Curl Cult perm as a microservice to increase your value behind the chair and to give those guests, maybe you're already serving an option instead of always shooting for someone who wants curls. So fixing bang trims or bang trim, excuse me, Bang whorls will really encourage those people you already serve to to find their happiness and their confidence.

Yeah, I love it.

And here's just a little bit of feedback from DMs and posts about Curl Cult. There's been many more than this, but just an idea. I love this top right one that this is from a stylist who wasn't perming and now she is and she's just like, I can't believe I actually like doing this. So that was really great feedback. And you can see, you know, the ones over on top left on the right side is more from clients about getting the service done and how much easier it is for them and how great their hair feels afterwards. So, you know, the stylists and the clients speak for us in terms of, you know, how, how they are feeling about the service and the product. And we're happy to always hear it. All right, you want to talk a little bit about our styling line?

Yes. So our styling line is so important because when clients have gone from maybe straight to curly, they really in, you know, need that encouragement from their curls support at home. So Curl Cult retail takes the guesswork for the client out of what's going to look the best. You know, how am I going to get these beautiful results at home? So Magic Spell actually will repair their hair over time because we also have our PSM protein and Plex technology in our Magic Spell product. So they're encouraged to have soft, shiny hair all the time and then enhance is a very lightweight but moisturizing curl cre. So it's sort of like a two in one. They're getting moisture and support at the same time. And it is just a very foolproof Combination being able to use those two as the styling products. And I have been using actually our shampoo and conditioner for so long now. And anytime I don't utilize it, I feel it. I feel the difference, Lauren, each time. So it's available for every person though. So that's why I love on our shampoo and conditioner we say moisturizing. Is anybody looking to repair their hair, feel better and feel confident about their texture and magic spell? Lauren had said we have won awards, but I use it on everybody and I've actually been using it pre toner as a way to help heal my clients at the bowl as a little bit of an add on treatment. So there are so many ways you can utilize our retail, not just for permed hair. My curly guest, I do a lot of curly haircutting, love this retail line so much that I can never have enough magic spell and enhance. It's wild. So I'm still getting everybody on my shampoo kick, but they're converting slowly but surely.

I love hearing that. Yeah. And you, you and I both mentioned about this award and here it is, you guys. So this is from Main Addicts, which I think we all. I mean, if you don't know Maine Addicts, it's Jen Atkins brand. She actually owns Ouai hair products. But the fact that, you know, within our first year of launch, we're already hitting best leave in spray by a platform like this, I think that speaks for itself. And I think the great thing is that again, this is not just for curls. This is for anyone and everyone who wants to use it. It's got UV protection, it's got heat protection, It's a great detangler. It's great for kids if you're fighting the tangles on kids. And also, like Caitlin said, it's a great porosity filler. So if you are heavily blonde or if you're at the bowl before you tone, it can kind of even that out. And that toner will take beautifully. So lots of different ways to use it, which is amazing.

Well, and this is kind of some funny facts, but my clients have really commented how much they do enjoy our packaging. So the madness on the bottle really reduces slip and we have a lock on and off, so you can take it with you on all your adventures. So Lauren mentioned about the detangling, but the science is there for the detangling. Right. The PSM Protex is filling in all those gaps in your hair so when you go to comb, you are softer and it is easier.

Amazing. I Love it. All right, so really when you bring on Pro Cult, we are asking you to give yourself a raise. Who doesn't want a raise? And by booking just three premium perms to your books every week, you can increase your revenue upwards of $35,000. And this is based on someone who's a mid level stylist. It's in the LA area, so maybe a little bit, you know, higher than a mid level stylist in other geographies, but who had some gaps in their schedule. Plenty of time to fit in three additional clients for a two, two and a half hour perm. And you can see it also doesn't take away from your other cutting and client color clients. It's just adding a piece to that pie, not stealing from another section. I will touch briefly too. And we'll get too far into it because we do get into it later on in some of our education. But this is also great for extensions and customizing your extensions to match your clients texture. So many people who have a medium wave or curly texture have a hard time finding extensions that match that texture. So they have to choose whether they blow their hair out every time they wash it or do I have something a little bit curlier and do something to my hair. So you know, giving them a wash and go option too is huge. Because just because you have, just because you want extensions doesn't mean you don't want to wear your natural texture. So that's another little customization that you can do with the product.

I love that we're always thinking of ways other people can stand out. So if there are heavy extensions in your area, that is an amazing way to stand out from your already competitive market.
