Curt Janzen and Juan explain how a single unsealed exterior wall penetration caused massive mold growth in a building. They walk through how to find the leak source and why hiring professionals beats DIY fixes for mold problems.
If you've got a problem with mold, I'm going to talk with Juan on how you can avoid it in the future. All right, Juan. So anyways, how do you avoid getting mold in your building, and what do you do if it happens?
Well, if it happens, you need to find the source where the water is leaking into your house, right? So in this case, in this condo building, we found that this is this little thing was causing the problem, right? So how was it causing the problem? Because this was a penetration on the wall, on the outside wall, trying to hold a water. Onto the wall and wasn't done properly, right? So this is something that if you do it right, you will have it right and it won't leak. But if you do the hole and you don't seal the hole after you leave, then the water is gonna start penetrating your house and over time it's gonna build mold.
So I own a building or I own a house and I don't know what's behind the wall. How do I know?
You need to hire the professionals. You need to find the right people to do the right job.
That makes, that makes too much sense. I don't want to do it myself though. No, don't do it yourself. Don't do it yourself.
