In this monologue, Curt Janzen, co‑owner and CEO of the Beyond Group of Companies, outlines the firm’s origins, cultural philosophy, and customer approach. He explains that the company began in 2006 as a spray‑foam insulation business and subsequently expanded into roofing, commercial fire‑proofing/fire‑stopping, and concrete lifting, with plans for further growth. Janzen emphasizes the importance of hiring people with the “right DNA”—individuals who enjoy each other’s company and align with the company’s values. To crystallize those values, the firm held a one‑day workshop that involved staff members and their families, resulting in a set of core values that prioritize making employees feel like number one. This employee‑first mindset is presented as the foundation for delivering exceptional service, as loyal, valued staff will treat customers with the same respect. Janzen frames customers as the heroes of the story—people who invest in improving their spaces and rely on the company’s expertise—while positioning Beyond Group as the supportive sidekick (Robin to Batman). The narrative underscores a culture of loyalty, teamwork, and a customer‑centric philosophy that drives the company’s growth and service model.

You spend most of your living life with the people that you work with, so I really feel like you deserve to work with people that you like. Hey there, my name is Curt. I am the co-owner of the Beyond Group of Companies. My business partner Kevin and I, we started the Beyond Group back in 2006 as strictly a spray foam insulation business, and from there we grew into a roofing business that grew into a commercial fireproofing, fire stopping business. That grew into a concrete lifting business. And honestly, it's not going to stop there. One of the biggest things that we like to do here at Beyond is just work with people we actually want to be around. And that's a big thing for us, is making sure that we have the right DNA of person that enjoys each other. As you know, you spend most of your living life with the people that you work with. So I really feel like you deserve to work with people that you like. Over the last number of years, we've really tried to define what our DNA is, who we are as a company, what we want to be. And one of the things that we did a few years ago is we brought in everybody, like our staff, their spouses, significant others, kids, uncles, aunts, whatever. And we did a massive one-day exercise to figure out what our core values were as a company and how that should make people feel. And really, at the end of it, the biggest thing I got out of it is we just want our people, the team, to feel like they're number one to us. And we really feel like if they have that sense of of loyalty to us and us to them, that they're going to treat our customers so well that our customers feel like they're number one. And really, that's just a byproduct of treating people to the best of our ability and hoping that just kind of oozes down and everyone is affected by it. As the customer, we really feel like they're the hero in almost every one of these stories for us, in the way that, like, you're the one that saves the money, you're the one that wants to improve your living space or your office space. That you're the one that's committed to trying to find the right trades and to get the right people and the right products. We just get to be lucky enough to come alongside you and help you out with that. You're the Batman, we're the Robin, and we get to be part of the story, which is an awful lot of fun for us. Put it on your desk. And we also started a fireproofing, firestopping, intumescent coatings company. If you could take your shoes off. Yeah. That'd be fantastic. Hey there, my name is Curt. I am a co-owner here at— well, then my voice cracks. For our customer, we really do believe that our customer is the hero in every one of our,
