My second transition was a shift in faith. I was raised as an Irish Protestant, but when I met my now ex-wife, who was Catholic, we began to build a life together. We agreed to raise our children as Catholics, and I wanted to truly understand the journey that they would be on and to share that path with them. So I chose to become Catholic, not out of a strong attachment to one faith over another, but to create a foundation of unity within our family. This shared faith was a way of walking the same path, attending the same church, and building a common set of beliefs. Now, later, I moved away from organized religion altogether. Finding my own way as a spiritual person. But the transition instilled in me the importance of empathy and shared understanding.
