Leo describes starting credit repair in 2006, adopting Credit Repair Cloud in 2018, using Fiverr and low-cost funnels to acquire large volumes of clients (including ~3,000 Fiverr clients at one point), and moving into an outsourcing model that now handles most work for other firms. He also discusses operational tactics (round-one dispute letters, calling bureaus, filing CFPB complaints), team structure, client-retention offers, and marketing via email automations and lead magnets.

So please welcome to the podcast Leo Gonzalez. Hey, Leo.
Hi, Danny. How are you doing? I'm super excited to be here with you. I watch your podcast sometimes and I been learning a lot from listening to you guys on the podcast.
Well, I'm super excited that you're here and I want to know everything about you. But let's start with where did you grow up and where are you now?
I'm Marina from Puerto Rico. I came here when I'm on my 20s and when I come to United States, I came to Orlando. I started working at Disney, and from there I started working on a resort selling timeshare. Then after that I get into the mortgage industry as a mortgage broker. And I use the credit repair to help my business, to help my, my, you know, get more loans and help the, the borrowers and people on the office that need to close deals. That's what I use the credit pair until the 2008 on that area. The real estate started crashing. I lost my condo in Orlando. I had a condo there. I was a victim of scan. The. From the same company that I was working. They do some kind of scan there that I lose my property. And after that, I remember I get into other. I kind of let the real estate business on the side. I didn't get into other businesses. I opened a barber shop. I opened a bar at that time, too. And those business that like they fail. I felt all those fail. And my financial situation got really bad till the point that I was living into a house. I was living in a room in a house, I was renting a room in a house and I end up working on the gym. I was like looking online to see what I could do to better myself and I see the software, the crave Bear cloud and I started looking into it. I didn't get jump right away into it, but I was like looking into it when I was like, you know, the issue that I had at the time was the difficulty that I have to do the letters and all these, you know, do the letters and maintain the business wasn't able to scale it. So I get into the craver cloud. I took the free membership, you know, the free trial. And I remember I was working at the gym and I started doing a little bit of Facebook here and there. First year was really, it was really bad. I didn't make that much money. I make about $6,000. So I remember that when I went build my website for the Credit Bear, I I was doing it through Fiverr and so I was like looking, I was like what about if I put a, an ad in Fiverr that I'm a, a credit Bear? You know, I do Credit Bear and nobody had ads in Fiverr that wasn't for Credit Bear at that time. 8 2018. So I started getting a lot of traction on fiber to the point that I was at the end of, at the end of Fiverr I was getting about 200 clients a month just from Fiverr. All these clients that I have because at that time I already have like 3,000 clients. I think it was by November I have already like 3,000 clients from Fiverr. So I started marketing every everything all the client back back and that's how I can continue the the process. But in the, in the middle of of all of that, I realized that one of the things that I was good to to do is to, to work with volume so of, you know, to, to handle volume. So they say that the best thing that I should do to the best way to to direct my business was probably doing a outsourcing services. And many of the clients that I have on Fiverr they were looking at my services on fiber because service on five were like really cheap basically and they were looking at a freelancer. So I have a lot of credible companies that were using my my services. So I kind of target them. And now I'm basing my business to targeting all the credit card Companies that do want to do all sorts of things. I still take care of clients. I still taking care of my list. The list of clients that I have from Fiverr, they still, I got them on automation forever, you know, like every day finish and in two months they receive an offer.
Fascinating. So, wow, this is a whole lot to unpack. So you started repairing credit before they had big economic meltdown, like around what, 2006, 2007?
2006. I start, yeah.
Wow. And you're doing it all manually.
Literally Microsoft Word, writing up the letters at the beginning. Then I started using the Microsoft Word.
Wow, that is so hard and so time consuming. When did you find credit repair cloud?
I found it on 2018. Completely life changing. I basically I live in right now the life I want to live. I live by the beach on South Beach. I'm gonna start traveling in probably like a month, two months from from now. That's how you have completely changed my life.
That's so awesome. And so you're working with clients in English and in Spanish.
Yes, English and Spanish. I also cover Puerto Rico. I. I can prepare credit from clients from Puerto Rico too.
How awesome. Okay. And so now you still have clients of your own, but you've branched out into outsourcing. How many clients of your own do you have these days?
I got, I have done around 38,4000 clients. I think active right now I have a little over 400.
Wow. And then the outsourcing you're doing for other credit repair companies, how many clients are you processing a month doing that?
I think basically most of them are through outsourcing. I would say like 90% are from outsourcing.
Wow, that is really, really amazing. And so what's the benefit for using outsourcing for a credit repair company to use your services?
The advantage of having us is that it's going to be way cheaper. You're going to have a group of professional doing everything for you. You don't have to train anybody. You can concentrate on, on expanding your business.
Amazing. So how big a team do you have?
In total of team members, I have five plus music. I got four freelancers for VAs that do the disputes, the manager, one agency to do the calls to experience.
What's your advice for somebody out there with a new credit repair business? What's your advice for growing and scaling a team like you've done?
You gonna be spending some money that you think you're not gonna make back, but you will make it back. You will not make money if you do it yourself. It's gonna be like so hard and it's gonna be frustrating. So get your team together and just do it. Don't. If you don't, let's say you don't have it, okay, I don't have it to like get my team together. Do it yourself, you know, like do it to the point that you need your team but just start if you like think about it, you're never gonna start. And that's basically my advice. Just try to organize yourself as best as possible. But you will learn doing it, you know, you will learn through the way, you know, you get there. You will get there.
Sure. Tell me what it was like when you were first starting your business.
I really believe that this business is about, you know, trust. Getting a big list is better to me than selling super expensive and getting a small list because that big list that you get will refer you to another people. So you're gonna get more people plus you can retarget them later on with Automations and get them more, you have more clients to resell later on because I see some people that have like really high prices and they, you know, they can make a really big amount of money pretty quick but then you know, maybe they don't have that many clients that they can go ahead and have them refer to you or retarget again with the automations.
Got it. And what are the parts you learned from clickfunnels? We learned all of our marketing from Russell and clickfunnels so I'm really fascinated that that you've learned from them as well. What has been working that you got from there?
No, ClickFunnel is amazing basically the way that give away something to the client to get the lead and then run it through a sequence of automations. We normally do like six or seven Automations but we always give something and we try to give something good, you know, like something that they will be, oh, you know, like what is this? Like right now we have an offer. We give 12 PLR articles plus one do a use of Craver kit just for them to look at us when I get the, the client and sending them an email with a video of me, like a welcome email email but with me talking to them, you know, letting them know what they can expect but in touch that they can see me. They can see is a real person and yeah, but yeah that's, that's one of the big things that I, I'm not good at social media. I'm really bad at social media. I'm not doing social Media I got, I gotta start getting. It's not that I don't like it, it's, it's that I haven't getting into it. But I think it's something that I'm propose myself to, to get into, to get more clients.
I'm fascinated with the idea of sending email campaigns to your past clients. So these are past clients of Credit Repair, but what other kinds of offers are you sending them?
I normally after they sign up, I give them something. I give them like a do it yourself credit bear kit for free. Then after they said that they finished the Credit repair in two months, after I send an offer. But it's going to be like a, like a special offer, you know, you're going to be probably like 50% less that they pay for the first offer. But I try to expand it. If they purchase three months, I try to send in an offer of five to six months. And you know, obviously I tell them that they can cancel anytime they want. So basically I keep sending them offers through them and maybe they don't need it, but they are like, oh, he do a really good job work with, to me. So let me send my, my wife or my son or anything, you know. And I got this client with a longevity offer of five to six months because I, I think that's necessary. I think that, that you need to make offers that the, the client be in the program with the option to cancel anytime, but the, the option to like keep longevity to five months, six months, I mean like from three to six months, that will be enough. And that way you can anticipate next month too. Your income for next month.
Okay, can you share. You've worked with so many clients and obviously you're getting amazing results because they're referring people to you. Can you share one of your most impactful stories of a client whose life was changed by your, your service?
I have a couple Cuban couple, young, really young that came to me from. Actually they came to me on Fiverr and there was. The guy was like complaining about another freelancer there and he was showing me the, the screenshots and everything and of he arguing with the other, the other person. I started working on his credit and in the first 30 days he got like 50 deletions from his credit. And this guy was amazing amazed. You know, he got a 50 relation for his credit and his wife got some deletions too. And in a month after he was able, he wasn't able to buy the house, but he bought a truck that he needed for work and A year after he came to me and he was already ready, I got continue working on his credit and he was already on 7687 or something like that and he was already ready to purchase the property. So that's like one, that's a recent experience because that's how I was working with him till last month.
I think that's, that's a really good story. I love that. I love that. What's one piece of advice you'd give to someone who wants to start their own credit repair business?
My, my advice is to just do it, you know, just don't think about it too much. You're gonna learn on the way. I mean it's a you while you doing it, you will learn and do it, do it yourself. Don't, don't hire quick. You know, just hire when you need it, but learn everything. Do the dispute yourself, do the consultation, you sell to the clients, do the marketing. Be on the social media talking, you know before you start hiring people to be on social media, before you start hiring people to do the disputes. Because then how you gonna teach somebody or how you gonna know if something is wrong? You know, like if you don't, if you don't haven't done it but then in a. There's when the point come that you can handle it, hire quick, you know, guess get a freelancer, get somebody like us or get some, or a ba that can help you with the, with the process. But do it, you know, like this is like something that you can be thinking oh let me, let me think about it. No, no, no, do it. You're going to change your life. I mean I came from making $10 an hour. I'm doing pretty good right now.
Of all the credit repair strategies you've learned, what's one that's been a real game changer for your business?
We try to do removals as fast as possible so the client sees results right away. So the first thing we do when we get is we call the bureaus to do experience query removals which is easy to do. Many people don't know how to do it but it will make the client know that you know what you're doing. They're going to see something removed on the credit so they're going to be like amazed about it. Another thing that we start doing right now, after we send disputes, we send a CFPB online complaints. This complaint could be about the, the bureau reporting information there like inquires or anything. You, you could do any or a charge charge of that have a past due amount. Any error that you see or they took more than 30 days to basically any error that you see, you put it on the on the CIPB complaints. But you send all the letters to on the complaint. That's one thing that we're doing right now and that will being preventing to get all letters. We haven't been getting a sole letters after we've been doing that and we've been getting like super fast because the after we do that the the CFPB send I don't know if automatically I don't know how they work but they send that online to the credit bureau and we've been getting more faster results and more results and we're not getting installed letters after that.
You're immediately sending to the CFPB or you you sending a round one letter to the bureau first?
No, we send the round one letter first and then we try to on the on the round one letter we try to like find some something on. I said that the charge off has some error on it. So they have some past due amount that I'm supposed to show because it's a. Any error that we find we put it on the on the letter and then after we send that wait a few weeks and then we do a CIPB online complaint and we let the the the CFPB know about the that problem and we attach all the disputes sent to that complaint so we be sure that they answer them and they don't get in. The good thing about that is we don't get an email store letter saying that we they use in a Cray Bear company or any of those layers that we use they used to send to everybody but they still send them. But like it's very rare now that we been doing that.
Are you also sending a copy of your complaint to the bureau or the creditor as well so that they know faster before the CFPB does its process?
No, we send that the. We send a complaint on the second round and on the second round we may do another complaint too if they don't. If they don't remove or they don't answer.
What's a common misconception people have about credit repair that you wish you could correct?
Many people think that some people think they don't work. The credit bear don't work. Some people think that they the credit bear is scammed too because they got like so many companies out there that have been taking care of advantage of the of the people. I will. I will. Any client that do their research and do their research especially that if the company is charging too much. Do this research. Look at reviews look at the social media. Try to see if the person is a real person behind the the the don't believe like is the company tell you that oh I can remove everything. It's no nobody can remove everything in two weeks. You know you maybe maybe have some things removed in two weeks but not all the time everything. Oh and this company charged me a thousand two thousand whatever for removing everything. No, no. You know like looking be be in the look. But that's a misconception that people have about Craver companies because other players in the industry are being are being putting that scene on the people's mind. And I also other thing is watch if you are a Craver wash podcast. Wash this especially this podcast. Don't be watching all the podcast people talking about things that are not real. They. They're crazy. Watch this because it's a serious people here serious program. I look a lot the clickfunnels presentations. Why should I give inform be on your on your market. If you like watch click funnels Rosen. What's his name?
Russell Brunson.
Rosa Bronson. Yeah. Why is Rosa Bronson presentations That's like going to teach you a lot of marketing.
That's really good advice. Okay, I want to switch gears and ask you a few rapid questions and answer with the first thing that pops into your head. Okay. What's your business superpower?
I would say communication results.
What's your business Kryptonite. Meaning the area that you've had to work the hardest to improve.
Definitely right now social media. I need to improve my social media.
What does business ownership mean to you?
Freedom. They give me freedom to do whatever, you know half a time.
What drives and motivates you?
Helping others.
What's your definition of success?
Being able to control my destiny.
And do you have any other advice for someone just starting out with a credit repair business?
Yeah. My advice would be to learn to delegate as soon as possible. You don't can wear all the hats in business. Learn to delegate and always keep keep watching podcasts or or courses and things like that that can help you improve. Because one thing that people sometimes people think like I could. I have a lot of success on Creeper and I can think that what I do is like better than everybody but and I feel I can come with something and I listen to them and I can try with their clients and sometimes I'm amazed that sometimes it works. That's how I discover what I'm doing right now. So be open minded to everybody. Don't think that you know everything because you don't know. It's a lot of stuff going on there. That way you can, you can learn.
And how can people find your products and reach out to you?
Www.miamicreditrepair.site okay.
