Ep 148 - Failing Forward & The Never Give Up Mindset

Flip and Danielle Robison discuss reframing failure as progress toward success. They reference Napoleon Hill's "three feet from gold" story and John Maxwell's work on failure, arguing that surrounding yourself with the right people keeps you moving forward when you want to quit.
Hey, everybody. Flip and Danny here, founders of the Freedom Real Estate Group family of companies, and welcome to another episode of our.
Podcast, which is called Freedom through Passive Income.
That's right. And today's episode is entitled Failing Forward and the Never give up mindset. Yes, I almost said falling forward, which is sort of the same thing. But what is failure? Failure is just simply not achieving your goals, not the outcome that you wanted. Yeah, I mean, I don't like the. That's one of my F words. I don't like that word in particular because I don't like being a failure.
It's very negative.
It's very, very negative. But that's what failure is. And so what does it mean to fail forward, Dani?
Well, funny enough, we have common phrases that we use a lot, and it's partly because of the people that we surround ourselves with. And so I Googled this right before I finished writing some quick bullet points so we could record this podcast. And it's a book written by John Maxwell. Have not read it.
Go figure.
But we understand the concept of it. We've been taught the concept of it. We talk about the concept with many people that we know. And the concept really is that you embrace failure. You understand it's a requirement of getting to success, and it's merely a stepping stone of allowing you to get there. And it helps you build that momentum. Right. Instead of just getting stuck. Is if you're willing to fail. And fall is pretty good, because if you fail forward, it's almost. Your failure is a. It's a negative. It's a fall. It's something like that. But if you just keep on forward, you know, like when you run too fast and you're about to fall forward and you're like, you catch yourself. That's what I imagine whenever I think of fail Forward, you're just running, running, running. And yes, you're about to fall, or you did fall a little bit, but it helped you get to the next step because you use that lesson to be able to catapult you right into the next. Whatever it is that you're doing. So that's for us what. What failing forward is.
And I think. I think the thing is, is like, I don't mind failing. I don't mind failing at all. Failure is kind of like it. That's like, you're finished. You're done. Yeah, that's why I don't like the word. I always said I was like, why don't I like that word now? I know, because that means you gave Up.
Yeah.
And this is the Never give up. We don't. We don't give up. And so that's why it's failing forward and that. Being a failure forward.
Yeah. Anyway, so for you, being a failure is giving up.
Yeah, that's. That's the thing.
But failing has nothing to do with giving up.
Yep. That's good.
I like that.
And one of the most common phrases people say when asked, what do you guys think is the biggest reason you found success? Now, this came up on a podcast.
Yeah.
That we were doing, and actually, I was hosted by someone else, and we were on their podcast and they asked us this question, and then you immediately.
Answered, oh, I said it's the people you surround yourself with. Because I'm so big on masterminds and the leaps and bounds we've made since we surrounded ourselves with more amazing people that are on the same path as us or of the same mindset or whatever. It's been a game changer. So that immediately spewed right out of my mouth when you were like, I.
Would have said never give up.
Yes. And I was like, oh, dang it. I should have just kept my mouth shut, because that's better. And that's probably really the reason people succeed, is because they refuse to give up.
Yep. Because it was. And again, I remember where I was, and this was back in Texas probably more than 10 years ago. You know, reading the how to. What is it? How to Influence Friends and whatever that book is.
Yes.
How to Win Friends and Influence People or whatever. I. Yeah. And it was funny. Napoleon Hill. And it's like. It's such a huge book. Right. But I don't. Yes, it's a great book, but it's the story about the three feet from gold. That's the part that I remember. I mean, I could probably remember some of the other part of the book, but it was that story. That story hit me so much, and it's been something that's rung true with both you and I, and they never give up our attitude. No, I'm not giving up. I'm three feet from gold. I've been three feet from gold for 12, 14 years now, and I'm still three feet from gold. I'm not stopping.
Yes.
Because I'm getting to the goal. Darn it.
That's right.
I'm like that TV show, that Oak island show. They're just three feet from gold. They're gonna find treasure eventually. Yeah. So that's truly where I think it is. But the masterminds is what's really changed it for us.
Yeah, but they aren't the reason we're successful. They're certainly part, a large part of it. But it's because we never give up. Because somebody can be surrounded by the right people and still give up.
Right.
So I think that's truly the answer to it. And I've heard many people, ever since you said I was gonna say that, how many times I've heard people answer the question, never give up. I'm like, dang it.
Don'T stop moving.
That's right.
Always move forward. Always be moving. Well, again, I think that wraps that one up. Yes, it sure does. Make sure you're heading over to our website, freedomcapitalinvestments.com join our investor club. We're also on all of the social media, so make sure you're heading over there.
