Ep 272 - Week 39 Live Progress Update

Flip and Sam record from their property during Hurricane Ian, describing high water and gusts while sharing their prep work: generators, propane, securing cars. They got Florida licenses and have one closing pending, but the storm has limited their capacity to work.
Hey, everybody. Flip and Danny here, founders of the Freedom Real Estate Group family of companies. And welcome to another hurricane edition episode of our podcast.
And our podcast is called Freedom through Passive Income.
That's right. And welcome to another live episode. And you can see we're standing outside. We're still in the remnants of Hurricane Ian.
Ian.
I want to pronounce it Ian because he was a pain in the ass, but Hurricane Ian. And so we wanted to get it outside. You can still see, for those of.
You listening, we're going to describe it. Sorry.
Yeah, yeah, sorry. So behind us you can see the black clouds. We have a pond that's right behind us. It's higher than normal, but it's actually gone down since this morning. And we just have rain for about another hour and then you'll hear the gusts of wind every so often. But let me just tell you this. If you've never been through a hurricane, try to imagine the worst storm you've ever been in. Okay? Got that in your mind? Now multiply that by 100. Okay. Got that in your head? Okay, now make it last 24 hours straight. Right? A little stressful, but we had like, we knew like four days ago or whatever five days ago that it was gonna hit us. So we had days to prep. We prepped all day Monday and Tuesday just to make sure, just in case, you know. So food, water, generators. In fact, I've got a generator showing up tomorrow when it's supposed to be sunny, but I mean, we were overly doing it, but it's crazy. I got my helmet on just in case the wind gust blows me away. After watching Jim Cantore all day yesterday on the weather with his helmet on. With his helmet on. And this is the only helmet I've got. So if you're not watching, I'm wearing a bicycle helmet, so I really look like a dork now.
And you're wearing your weather shirt.
Oh, yeah, my weather shirt. Which is all clouds and rain and occasional sun there.
Yes, yes. And behind us, the golf course, all the sand traps are now ponds.
The ducks are using it as a pond. And. Yeah. So it's gonna be. And our pool is almost an infinity pool all around it because it's almost completely full.
So we hope for those of you who are listening, we described this well enough for you. For those of you who are watching, you can't see it all, but you get a little idea. But we're at the trailing end of it, right?
Yep, yep. We do have a screened in porch and I checked earlier the only damage really is to our screen door. And that was by hurricane flip trying to hold it open at 12:30 in the well. Because the dogs had to go out.
Yes.
Yeah. I grabbed the wrong thing.
Yes. And his arm went right through the screen. Yeah, it's gotten bigger.
Thank you.
Yeah. Yeah. So other than that, it's week 39.
Yes, it is week 39. Welcome to week 39 in review, which was a hurricane.
Yeah, this is our hurricane episode. So we actually only have a few things to talk about because this past week was very related to our personal lives. Not a lot of professional stuff going on. My brother had a week off at work and text us and said, hey, I've got a week off. Do you want me to come down and help you guys finish setting up the house? And he's an audio visual guy and he always sets up all of our TVs and he helps put stuff together and he's just really amazing. So we said, yes, we have so many TVs and we haven't had time to put them up. So he came in. So that weekend we were prepping the house. We didn't have a guest bedroom yet, so we prepped the house, we were cleaning it, making sure that the guest bedroom was put together, make sure he had towels and everything that he needed to have. And then he came in and as he was coming in and we learned about the hurricane.
Yeah, like, for sure that it was really good because it was gonna go to the Panhandle. But then at the last second, Ian just said, nope, I'm gonna go to Florida. I'm going to Disney World.
That's right. So then once Lyle gets here, that's my brother's name, we start doing stuff at the house. But I'm like, major prep mode for the hurricane. And I was like, okay, Lyle, Flip, here's the things that we have to do. You know, take the captains to the dump because we gotta get the cars in the garage. Make sure you stop for gas. And flip's like 7 11's out of gas. Get some propane, we gotta get some generators.
Nobody has propane.
Making list upon list upon list of all the things and researching what do you do in a hurricane? How do you prep? Oh, Florida's the lightning capital of the United States. So what do you do and how do you prevent lightning from striking your house and all of this stuff. It was so, so stressful. I ended up canceling every single appointment for the rest of the week because I was like, ok, okay, we're Prepping. I'm not getting any work done. I don't know what's going on. And so I was just like, just cancel everything, because we don't even know if we're gonna have power. So it's been a little bit crazy. A little bit. I didn't sleep very much last night. Like, I'm on.
I did until you woke me up.
Yeah.
Tell me that the lights went out.
Anyways. It's been a little bit crazy. Oh, we also got our Florida drive system.
We are official Floridians.
Yes. Yes.
And I think the hurricane really makes it official that we're official.
Yes.
We're officially official.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah. Ye. So it's been a little bit of a crazy week. The only real estate thing that we have to report is that we still have one pending closing. And thankful. Actually, we did get a bunch of leads. We're looking at quite a few deals right now. And every time I got something, I'm like, I for it. Right on the team. It's like, I got no time for deals right now.
Can't do deals. Hurricane.
But we do still have one pending closing. We're excited about that, but we're not announcing anything until it's done.
That's right.
Right.
That's right.
So I think we got everything. Lyle coming to town, Florida driver's license, hurricane prep, and Ian here. And that's it, right?
Yep. I think that's it. Hopefully tomorrow we'll be right back here, but it'll be a blue sky behind us.
Yes.
So. But I hope you enjoyed this episode. Make sure you're heading on over to our website, freedomcapitalinvestments.com to join the investor club. So I hope you enjoyed this episode. If you're listening, you should definitely check us out because I look really awesome in this bike helmet.
