Ep 338 - 85% of People Are Unhappy With Their Job

This podcast episode (Freedom through Passive Income, Ep 338) explores high rates of job dissatisfaction (hosts summarize research as about 85% unhappy rather than "hate"), contrasts 'hate' vs 'unhappy,' and encourages listeners to pursue purpose, vision, and passive-income paths (notably real estate) to regain freedom. The hosts (Flip and Danny of Freedom Real Estate Group) give practical advice: define a vision/purpose, reframe challenges, avoid naysayers, and gamify work. The episode closes with a call-to-action to join their investor club and a standard investment/legal disclaimer.
Hey, everybody. Flip and Danny here, founders of the Freedom Real Estate Group family of companies, and welcome to another episode of our.
Podcast, which is called Freedom through Passive Income.
That's right, and welcome to another episode. And this episode is entitled 85% of people are Unhappy with Their Channel.
Yeah. When I was looking up, you know, different titles for the end of the year, different topics that we wanted to talk about, I actually saw something that said over 80% of people hate their job. That's what it said. So I thought, is that true? And so I started doing more research, and ultimately is a very, very high percentage of people. But that word hate is the word that was not accurate. And actually, that's the word that I was worried about. I was just like, okay, I. I understand most people are. Don't love their job. Right. It is one of those things that you chase to do what you love, right? And to make it feel like it's not work because you just enjoy it so much. That is rare. I do understand that. But hate was a very, very strong word. So when I saw that stat, I was like, I did the research, and ultimately, it is very, very high percentage. I feel comfortable saying 85% based on all the research that I did. But is the word unhappy is more appropriate than hate? They're not like, oh, I'm super excited to go to work today. And unhappy might be just maybe that they have a job, right? They should. They could enjoy what they do. It's maybe a career that they want to pursue, but they're unhappy that they're still having to clock in and clock out, and it's that type of topic. So I really want to kind of clear that up, because the title, when I saw the very first one before I did more research, I was like, eek, that's crazy. So I wanted to talk about this a little bit because Flip and I have a deep passion for our team. We talk about that a lot on podcasts and all the things that we want to do with our companies and for our team and for the team members who have been there and helped us, you know, build this up, our profit sharing, our succession plans, all these things, like this vision that we've talked about, about all this passive income and building, like, subtype of not just a foundation for giving back to, you know, who we care about, but also to our team and for the causes that they care about, but also for the kids of our team members and investors and being able to be, like, a board of advisors to allow them to pursue their dreams. Maybe they want to be an entrepreneur and build their own business. Maybe they have a great idea. They need a team of people who have been through business and have an experience and can guide them and help them with a kickoff investment, right? To be the SE that launches that business and puts them on a path to success, because they have us there. That's how much we care about our team. So when you see a line like over 80% of people hate their job, you're just like, it's very deflating. Why the heck am I working this hard for other people that probably hate even working for us at all? And so that's why I did all of this research, and that's why I wanted to have this podcast, because I think it's something that we all have to think about you as somebody who may have a job. It could be a doctor, lawyer, or whatever. And you could have different reasons why you don't necessarily like it or that you love it. You know, there is a percentage of people that love what they do like we do, but if you don't, you need to put yourself on a path of loving. We hate even working for us at all. And so that's why I did all of this research, and that's why I wanted to have this podcast, because I think it's something that we all have to think about you as somebody who may have a job. It could be a doctor, lawyer, or whatever. And you could have different reasons why you don't necessarily like it or that you love it. You know, there is a percentage of people that love what they do like we do, but if you don't, you need to put yourself on a path of loving what you do, right? And I think that that's really, really important. And if you're somebody who's unhappy with their job, but maybe necessarily doesn't want to be an entrepreneur and take the risk of building businesses and things like that. Maybe you have to figure out how to become happy with your job, right? Reframing or talking to your supervisor to say, hey, this is what I really love. I want to, like, be excited about coming to work, and I want to do this and this. Or what can we do to make our culture better? What can. How can we improve it? I think, like, we have one life, and everybody says life is short, right? So this is a real, real thing that I don't think is talked about enough because people are afraid to talk about it. And I don't think that should be the case. I think you should care enough about the people that you work with and around to have these conversations. And if you're somebody who wants to be an entrepreneur or it doesn't even matter, We've got a couple things that we just want to talk about to encourage you to start thinking about different things so that you can put yourself on a path of whatever it is that you do get passionate about and what drives you to get up in the morning. I think we did a motivational Monday about that. Yes, we did. Why we get up in the morning. So I'm going to let Flip kind of take over the. The ideas that we have here and maybe how it would relate to people.
Right. Well, number one.
Yeah.
Is have a vision. It's like your purpose.
Yeah.
You know, like what. What is your vision? What do you see yourself doing? What do you see you. What is it that you want to do? You know, because once. Once it. Once it's something that you love to do, it's no longer a job.
Yes.
You know. Yeah. It's like, you know, people ask me what. What I do for a living, and it's just like, well, I guess real estate, because we just. It's. We. We do it. Do we do it so naturally now it's just part of life, part of my daily activity that. And I love everything that I'm doing. I don't even. I guess that's what I do. But yeah, once. Once you. Once you love what you're doing, you know, then it's no longer a J, O, B.
So having that vision of, let's just say you have a job right now and you want freedom through passive income. That's why you're here. That's why you're listening to this podcast.
Right.
You don't want to have to work. You want to. Like, I'm going there because I want to, not because I have to. But when you have to, it does feel like I might be a little unhappy because I have to. Yeah. How do you reframe that? What do you. What do you put forth as your vision? Is your vision the actual freedom through passive income? And therefore you love. This is a day that I get to earn more money because now I'm putting it in these buckets. And now it's going to take me here. And I know in five years it's getting me to this point in time, and at that point in time, I'm going to be able to say, hey, I want to still come here. I actually enjoy it.
Yeah.
And on that path, are you talking and saying, hey, can we do these things? I think it would be more fun and they would like. We always talk about making a game out of life. Right. Maybe we make a game out of work. How can I make this more fun and let me talk to people about it and see if they like it. If they like it, maybe other people have fun. Is that kind of the idea?
Otherwise it's, it's what everyone knows as a dead end job.
Yeah.
You know, you're giving yourself a means to an end. You know, you're getting. I'm not in a dead end job. I'm in a job. But I know that this is going to lead me to X.
Yes.
You know, so that there's always a vision of where you want to get to. And I want to invest in real estate. And so I know in order to do that I need to do this here.
Yes. Then it gets a little bit exciting. Right. Because you know where you're going and you know, hey, every single day that I do this, I'm getting towards where I want to go. Yep. Okay, I like that. What about number two?
So, well, yeah, this is the hard part is don't listen to the naysayers. There's always negative, negative Nancy's out there. They'll find something wrong with everything. So that's the hard part is staying clear of them because they're everywhere and they just muddy the waters. So they poison the well if they're miserable.
They just want.
Yeah, yeah, Misery loves company.
Yes, that's the phrase I was looking for.
You know, and so then, and so you wrote a couple of things here. So every time you hear you can't. Well, you can.
Yes.
You know, if you hear it's impossible. Well, it's possible. You know, so it's, it's making sure that you just. No matter what they say because like I said, they're going to be everywhere. It's just, you know, really.
Yeah. Maybe think of it as a challenge because that's what I love it when people say you can't do that. You know what, you just motivated me. Or that's impossible. You know what, you just motivated me to figure out how to do it. Because. So I think that that is like get motivated by the words. I can't get motivated by the words. It's impossible. Even if you're the one saying it to yourself, you know, I can't have fun at my job. I can't gamify my job. Why not? You know, sit down, think about it. How could I make this fun? How Can I make my vision for my future fun and get excited about it? It's possible if you just sit down and take the time. And then I love this Nelson Mandela quote. He said, everything is impossible until someone does it. So again, you just have to challenge yourself to. I'm going to make this a game. If I think it's impossible or I think I can't do it, I'm going to gamify it and I'm going to figure out how it's done because ultimately it is impossible until you figure out how to do it. And once you figure out how to do it, boom, the floodgates open and you can do it whatever you want. And you build more confidence in yourself because you just did something that seemed insurmountable. And we've done that many, many times. We're like, let's just try it. And it just builds confidence and that continues to build momentum. And you know, we go far.
Yeah. And there's a, there's a story. I'm not going to get into it because we're over time here, but it was about the 4 minute mile for the longest time. Everyone said it's impossible. You cannot run a four minute mile. And then one person did and then a whole bunch of people did. So once one person did, there's just all these people did.
That's right.
