Transcript excerpt from a YouTube discussion clarifying the difference between a real estate agent and a Realtor. Speakers explain that agents are state-licensed, while Realtors belong to the National Association of Realtors (and state associations), adhere to a code of ethics, take additional classes/designations, and follow continuing education requirements (every three years).
An agent is someone that is I guess they would be just licensed with the state, correct? Yeah. And then the realtor is that's a separate organization there. There's the national association of Realtors. And then each state has its own association of Realtors. So it's a it's a separate organization. So not all agents are realtors, but all realtors are agents.
Yes. And so there's also like codes of ethic. There's all these different things that a realtor is very proud of. Right. Because they took these classes, they have these designations within this family of people who call themselves a realtor because they hold themselves to a higher standard than an agent who just passed a test and is hanging their license but isn't obligated to the same standards, I guess, of ethics or rules or guidance, continuing.
Education every three years.
Yes. Yeah, exactly.
