Struggling with Imposter Syndrome? WATCH THIS

Flip and Danny share their personal struggles with imposter syndrome in entrepreneurship and real estate investing. Both talk candidly about self-doubt and feeling inadequate despite their success, offering a conversational take on a common fear among business owners.
I always felt that that imposter syndrome, fake it till you make it. I've always felt that every time I met somebody, no matter what stage we were in, I'm always meeting someone that knows so much more than me. And I'm just like, what am I? I'm just a joker here. I don't even know half of what these people know, and we're hanging out with these people. What are your insecurities as an entrepreneur and real estate investor? You know, I'm not gonna stop that. Come on. I love doing this.
Okay, so this is a great question. And I really did think about this a lot. And I've worked with coaches over the last year. I really started working with coaches that was working on just me, not just business. Cause I used to hire coaches and join masterminds to work on the business. And I realized at some point, especially because of the burnout, I realized I was like, hey, it's actually time to work on me. Because I am the one that's like, failing being the best person I can be, the best leader I can be, the best manager I can be. And so I thought, let's give the business a break. Let's hire a coach to actually work on me as a leader and as a person. I said, so that was really impactful for me. And out of that relationship and out of the new coach that I'm working with now, there's some phrases that I've learned that I say to myself, and just turns out they are my insecurities. And so I'll say things like, I'm not smart enough. I don't know what I'm doing. And I especially do that when I'm in rooms with people that I highly respect. So we're in the power room, right? So we're sitting around tables with Eddie, Andrew, Dan, and these are, like, millionaires. I think Dan's close to being a billionaire at this point.
I think. I think all three of them are.
But it's crazy. And you get. You sit around a table with people like that, and you start going, like, do I even deserve to be in this room? Like, I'm not that smart. And like, I don't really know what I'm doing. I just get up every day and keep trying or keep surrounding myself with people who are in a place higher than I am so that I can ask them questions and say, hey, I'm stuck right now. How do I do this? How do I do that? I get around. I just keep surrounding myself with those types of People. But it doesn't mean that I don't sit in rooms like that and just be like, what am I doing here? This is crazy. And so I learned that I. I constantly tell myself those things, and they're not true. Again, going back to the. What. I had this realization and the first question on this very podcast that, you know, why are you even afraid of that? Because it's just not reality. Like, there's people that want 10 minutes with me just to ask me a few questions, because I bet they're sitting in their seat going, I'm not smart enough. I don't know what I'm doing. I need ten minutes with Danny.
Right?
It's perspective. It's all freaking perspective. So I would say that's my probably top two insecurities that I've said to myself over and over and over over the years. And so back to you, Flip. What are your insecurities as an entrepreneur and real estate investor?
So, you know, like I said, we were musicians. And for good percentage of the years that I was a musician, I was at the top of my. Not the top, But I was top 1% ish of performers and in the circle of people that I was with. And I was always a leader in everything I did. I, you know, a band leader, musical director, whatever, lead trumpet player, you know, so I was always at the top. I was always leading. And when we went into art auction, well, I didn't really have. It was. We were just by ourselves. There was really no one else. It was me and you.
Yeah.
All right. But then when we went into real estate, it was. I was a fish out of water. I didn't know. I didn't know. You don't know what you don't know. Right. So I just. We went in not knowing anything. So, you know, we studied and became realtors, whatever. So I was trying to learn about real estate, but it seemed like everybody I talked to do so much more and that. And, you know, and we did the. The class with Phil Grove and, you know, trying. Trying to learn, learn, learn. We were always learning. We're always learning. And. But I always felt that, you know that imposter syndrome, right? Fake it till you make it. I've always felt it. Always felt that. Because I always felt that every time I met somebody, no matter what stage, and this actually goes even to recent, no matter what stage we were in, I'm always meeting someone that knows so much more than me, and I'm just like, what am I? I'm just a joker here. I don't even know half of what these people know. And we're hanging out with these people, and I remember it was. It was probably about 4 or where we read something and it says, I always make sure that you're the dumbest guy in the room. Right? Yep. Right? And I'm like, done. I've got that down, man. I am rocking that. And. And so. So you talk about, what are my insecurities? I've always felt like I don't know as much as everyone else. I've always felt that. I always make sure that we're in really smart rooms, which we always are, it seems. And, you know, and we talk to people and they. They. You know, and because, you know, people know us because they, like, Power Room. We're owners, and. And so they introduce us as owners, and so people come up to us, and they immediately tell us their resume, and. And they tell us their resume, and I'm like, holy, I can't believe this guy's talking to me. I'm sorry. I just swore. Whoops. You know, this is the.
Get real. Yeah, yeah, we swear. Sorry.
Yeah, yeah. But I'm like, holy crap. I can't believe this person's even talking to us. This guy's like, you know, and then, I mean, we had Annie on. On, you know, as a guest for one of our earlier episodes, and I'm just like, man, I can't even. I can't even have a conversation with her. She just. She. She'll, like, look at me and look into my soul, and I'll. I'll be. I'll be in the corner, you know, in the fetal position. I mean, because it. Just because she's so incredibly smart. So there you go. That's my insecurities. There we go.
Okay, that was great, Flip.
Thank you.
Hey, but perspective shift again. People come to you and want to know, like, you are smarter. You are so, so incredibly smart. And people come to you in those rooms to be able to ask you questions because it's not imposter syndrome, right? You're not faking it. Like, you're the real deal, right?
Well, they always. They come up, hey, I got a question for you. I'm like, okay. If you want my answer. Nothing on this show should be considered specific personal or professional advice.
